We warmly welcome visitors who come to this beautiful and diverse area of Western Massachusetts with or without their companion animals. Since opening the cottage in January of 2012, I’ve welcomed more guests than I could possibly have predicted or hoped. It seems that Cavalier Cottage has answered a need for truly pet-friendly accommodations. I could tell you stories about the wonderful four-leggeds who’ve enjoyed country walks here, not to mention their terrific two-legged companions. I could not have imagined that I’d meet such a variety of interesting people when I opened the cottage this past winter. Nestled at the base of the Charlemont hills and located on a very quiet country road, Cavalier Cottage is spacious, bright and comfortable. The live-in area is simply but graciously appointed, featuring ceiling to floor windows, a queen size bed, private entrance and private deck. The fully equipped kitchen has an eat-in area with a full size stove and refrigerator (in case you want to cook-in), and a private bathroom. Relax on the private deck and enjoy the country view. For entertainment, you can access Netflix movies on your laptop, watch Direct TV with over 100 channels, or play classic board games. To stay in touch with the outside world, the cottage is equipped with Wi-Fi. Park your car in an enclosed garage if you need to. Amenities also include a delicious Continental breakfast with Pat’s English scones, a small but growing library, and a CD player with a collection of jazz and classical CD’s. Cavalier Cottage is conveniently located to the Mohawk Trail (Route 2) and many outdoor activities: There are great hiking trails, river rafting, tubing, zip line canopy tours, horseback riding, tennis, golf, biking, snow shoeing, rock climbing, downhill and X-country skiing. The beautiful Massachusetts countryside, with its many quaint villages and towns, is also home to a great variety of iconic educational and cultural destinations, including MassMoCa, the Clarke Institute of Art on the Williams College campus, and many more. The area is a four-season vacation destination, from foliage time in the autumn, through ski season into spring hiking time and summer holidays. Time here is sublimely tranquil and peaceful. Description:Located in Pine Mountain Club CA, this newly refurbished three bedroom, one and a half bath home provides an ideal retreat from the relentless pace of the big city. Chris ' Cabin sleeps up to 8 people. n nOnly a little over an hour north of LA, people find it hard to believe that they 're even in Southern California. We 're located at 5,600 feet, on the forested slopes of 8,831 foot tall Mt. Pinos, where all four seasons make themselves known, one after the other. n nWe 're located walking close to the quaint PMC village center, which offers many conveniences, from restaurants and shops, to a grocery store and video rentals, to name a few. At the same time, our home has a secluded feel, being at the end of a 150 ' gravel driveway, with a green belt on three sides. n nNestled in a grove of amazing 60 ' tall oak trees, it 's easy to lose track of time gazing out the huge sliding glass door at 7,492 foot San Emigdio Mountain, or sitting on the spacious deck, listening to the streams that flow into the meadow below us. It 's common to see deer grazing just below the deck. n nBuilt in 1971, this 1,000 sq. ft. cabin is kind of a time capsule of that era, with its shag carpets, beautiful pine paneling and very 70 's color scheme. Don 't let that fool you though, with broadband wireless internet, 42 plasma high-definition cable TV and free local and (domestic) long distance phone calls, we are fully up to date with 21st Century technology. n nThis area is most popular for its proximity to Mt. Pinos (you can drive almost to the top) and the Winter sports (cross-country skiing, sledding and inner-tubing) associated with it, but many love it up here in the warm months as well, when it 's 20 degrees cooler than sweltering LA, and there 's always a breeze. There 's great hiking up here, and bicycling too, both on and off-road. There 's also a 9-hole golf course at the PMC clubhouse, and a swimming pool, so bring your bathing suit! In addition, we offer horseback riding, fishing, tennis and even basketball. There is boating and waterskiing at Pyramid Lake, which is about a half hour down the road. We 're 40 minutes from Magic Mountain. n nA lot of folks simply come up here, whatever the season, to chill out and enjoy each others ' company. Fish off the end of the dock, or out on the lake. n nThe three levels of the house give plenty of room for you to spread out. There are two bedrooms and a bathroom on the upper level, the main level has two entry doors, kitchen and dining area and living room with another full bathroom, the lower, lawn level has a third bedroom and family room with sliding door access to the hot tub, lawn with volleyball/badminton net and the lake. There is an outdoor grill near the lake and a fire pit, plus a combination gas and charcoal grill on the deck that surrounds the main level of the house. nThe log cabin has all the amenities of home. It is fully furnished, with many pieces hand made by Maine artisans. Mattresses are top of the line from a factory south of Portland. Quality bedding and towels are provided. The kitchen has a large refrigerator with ice maker, dishwasher, stove with vent hood, microwave, drip and plunger coffee makers plus coffee bean grinder, hand blender, toaster, cake mixer. There is also a washer and dryer. For the convenience of our guests, we make sure that there are supplies of kitchen basics like flour, sugar, baking powder, oil, a range of condiments and spices, coffee and tea, some cereals. Everything you need for cooking, including a lobster pot! Don't want to cook on vacation? No problem. We give you full information on nearby restaurants as well as excellent seafood sources where you can get lobsters, mussels and other delicacies cooked for you. There are also two good supermarkets nearby. nAs well as the amenities of the house and the enjoyment of the lake, there is an endless range of activities in this Western Mountains and Lakes region of Maine. We provide lots of information on local and regional activities for you - or you can just spend the days enjoying the lake and the boating options, with a dip in the hot tub at the end of the day. nThe six-person hot tub is very popular with guests, as is the 8'x8' swim raft. nFor entertainment in the evenings, the family room has a 50 inch TV with cable, XBox Kinect 360, Wii. (Bring your own games.) The living room has a 42 inch flat screen TV with cable, DSL high speed internet access with Wifi for your laptop/iPad. There is a radio/CD player, lots of board games and many books. The telephone is for incoming and local calls only. nUpstairs, one bedroom has a king size bed, the other has a queen and a full size bed. The third bedroom has a full lower bunk, twin upper bunk. There is a full size futon in the living room. nThe handmade dining table seats eight easily. The beautiful oak picnic table on the deck is a favorite place for coffee as you listen to the extraordinary call of the loons and watch the mist rising off the water. nThe lake has an area of over 100 acres - just right for paddling around in the kayak or canoe - and maximum depth of 23'. Fishermen should find small mouth and large mouth bass, chain pickerel, golden shiners, white or yellow perch. The water is clear. Be sure to approach the loons very slowly, they usually dive just as you get the camera shot perfectly framed. If you want to bring your own boat, there is a public launch site on nearby Wilson Lake in Wilton. nBoating, swimming, fishing and relaxing are wonderful ways to enjoy the property, but there are many interesting things to see and do in this Western Mountains and Lakes region of Maine, within an hour or two's drive. This is a major hunting area in the fall, and there are many county fairs to enjoy. The foliage in the fall is glorious. Enjoy the fall colors from the deck or while hiking through the trails in the Farmington woods or nearby Mt Blue State Park. nThe same chain of mountains as in Vermont and New Hampshire also carved their way through Maine, a few eons ago. The two major ski areas of Sunday River and Sugarloaf are each an hour away. Titcomb ski area is about ten minutes away in Farmington (small ski area but very good cross country trails and very friendly people), Black Mountain near Rumford, about 28 miles away, Eaton Mountain near Skowhegan is about the same distance away in another direction. The windows will surround you as you relax on the cozy sofa or in the lounge chair. nRelax in the upstairs loft with a futon, desk, and TV. Past the loft, the master suite has a Queen size bed, a book nook, plus a spacious bathroom with a jetted bath tub. nDownstairs you’ll find the second bedroom with an adjacent bathroom and the third bedroom with a bunk bed of a twin over a full. nOutside you can play ball or throw a Frisbee in the flat, grassy back yard, or you can toast marshmallows over the fire pit. For entertainment, you can access Netflix movies on your laptop, watch Direct TV with over 100 channels, or play classic board games. To stay in touch with the outside world, the cottage is equipped with Wi-Fi. Park your car in an enclosed garage if you need to.
