We used natural building products where possible and also employed some features that would have been used in days gone by. Coupled with up-to-date plumbing, electrical and insulation techniques, this home is as comfortable as it is beautiful. Portsalon is a typically peaceful Irish fishing village bounded to the east by hills of the Inishowen peninsula, and to the west by Knockallagh Mountain (1200ft). It is on the western shores of Lough Swilly in beautiful north Donegal. An area of immense natural beauty the village possesses a superb blue flag sandy beach, which stretches for 2 miles and a picturesque little harbour and which looks across at the Dunree Hills, backed by the Uriss Hills. It is an area of some historical importance situated as it is in the Fanad district, the ancient territory of the Mac Swiney's. In 1917 the bullion-laden ship Laurentic, was sunk off the coast by a submarine, and amongst the salvage the ship's bell was recovered and can still be seen in Portsalon Church. To the north of the harbour there are some natural arches and wonderful caves which run along the coastline, the most notable of these being The Seven Arches, a series of caves and tunnels, accessible on foot, and the Doaghbeg Arch also nearby. There is a charming drive to Fanad Head, the site of the famous lighthouse, where the cliffs rise to over 300ft, facing the seaward end of the lough and looking across to Dunaff Head in Inishowen. Location Gippsland Lakes, which is east of Sale and Bairnsdale, is renowned for its temperate weather, being warmer in winter than equivalent latitudes, making it a great escape from Melbourne in winter - or any time. Wattle Grove Cottage is only 250 meters - less than 5 minutes walk through a large house block sized reserve to the sheltered waters of Lake Victoria, with its boating, fishing and sandy lake swimming. From the beach you get among the very best sunset views anywhere from the lakes beach looking to the Great Dividing Mountain Range. 10 minutes push bike ride or 5 minutes drive to the stunning 90 mile surf beach. The interior of the cabin is made of hand cut hemlock wood. Very nice and very clean. We have an enclosed porch and a deck with a picnic table on it. We have park charcoal grills and a fire pit. We are DOG Friendly for a small fee. Amenities Air Conditioning : It gets cool at night but if you want AC we can provide at a fee. As the tide goes out, the tidal pools are forming, and you can have fun finding crabs, starfish, minnows, and other creatures in them. You can see manatees swim just before the entrance to Lover's Key State Park. If nature is your interest, make sure to visit Bowditch Point Park. It's located at the northern tip of Estero Island. Here, you will be amazed at how many different things there are to see, both on land and at sea! Before leaving the island, you can stop at one of the restaurants, go shopping in one of the many shops that line the streets, or get fudge for the sweet craving one may desire. Along San Carlos Blvd, be sure to stop at Love Boat Homemade Ice Cream for an unforgettable treat. On Fort Myers Beach you can do Deep Fishing or take a ride on SAILBOAT for the sunset CRUISE, go boating or see fantastic sunsets by the pier. Go to Top of the Mast and the DJ will play any songs that you request and you can dance in the sand! Try The Smokin Oyster Bar for a great groupper sandwich and Anthony's On the Gulf for a nice prime rib dinner outside. Breakfast at The Heavenly Biscuit is hard to beat. Visit Ron Daos, a place for the sports' fans with 65 tv screens and good food, and Busters, another place for the sports' fans with a good menu which offers 4-course daily specials. Visit Nervous Nellie's Restaurant at Fort Meyers Beach. This is just west of the bridge leading to Ft Meyers Beach on the north side. This could be your favorite dining experience as you seat on the deck next to the docks and watch the dolphins playing. The food is awesome also. Joe's Crab Shack on West First Street in Fort Meyers has seating directly over the ocean and the kids will have a good menu to choose from. The Sanibel Causeway makes going to the beach real accessible. Ride to Sanibel and Captiva islands and just check things out. The homes there are so beautiful. Have fun on the BIG M CASINO BOAT. The ride (9 miles out and back) is worth the $6.00 to get on the Sanibel's bridge. You can rent a bike on Sanibel and ride on the walkway around the whole Island. There are some good restaurants close by. There are also a number of water parks, miniature golf facilities in close proximity to the house. GOLF - you are able to use some public and some private, but if you are a serious golfer and do not might driving about 30 min, you can find some challenging courses in Naples and Bonita Springs. Also before you get to Ft.Myers Beach there are 2 MINI GOLFs. There are plenty of places to go. You can go to the Bell Tower Mall which has outdoors shoping, several RESTAURANTS and MOVIE THEATRE with 12 MOVIES showing. When you go onto main Road 41 (about 15 minutes drive) you will see all the big RESTAURANTs, BIG STORES and SPECIALTY OUTLET shops. The HOSPITAL is about 15 min away and called Healthpark. Combing these shores to look for the dark gems has always been a favorite pastime of visitors and residents here because these teeth make great collectibles. The teeth range in size from one-eighth inch to three inches and may be black, brown, or gray, depending on the type of minerals, deposits, and vegetation in the soil in which they have been buried. To start your own collection, you have to take a walk along the shore and hopefully discover sharks' teeth, for which the beach is famous countrywide. - Stump Pass Beach State Park is #1 attraction in Englewood The main attraction at this park is the beach and the fact that it has a large amount of sharks teeth just waiting to be found. What makes this beach different are the sharks teeth which are washed up on shore. Many locals walk along the shore line collecting sharks teeth. Most of the teeth are small and black and shaped like a Y, however occasionally you will find a really large one, which is a lovely keepsake of the area! They are usually black because they're so old, but sometimes you can find new teeth that are more gray towards the tip. On occasion, if you are there enough and do enough digging, you can uncover some real monster teeth. These are from the ancient Megladon sharks and can be worth a lot of money depending on the size and condition. It only costs $3 for an all-day park pass versus the 75 cents per hour at Englewood Beach just down the road and it shouldn't be hard to fund a spot as most of the tourism happens farther North up at Siesta Key. Great place to fish, lay on the beach and snorkel. Plus you can leave and come back to watch sunset for no extra cost! Opposite of this beach is a small unpopulated island „Maman“ favored by scuba divers for its underwater cultures. The Northern Line Tube station of East Finchley is 12 minutes walk away.The journey to the centre of London takes 30 minutes. A five minute bus ride gives access to Zip Cars that can be hired by the hour. Hampstead Garden Suburb is surrounded by East Finchley, Golders Green and Hampstead itself. These areas contain a diverse range of pubs and restaurants and first class shopping for food, clothes etc. Late night shops and cafes are situated at the bottom of the road. We have lovely young neighbours and many local friends and relatives who will help if there are any problems. A car can be made available by separate arrangement. For first time visitors I am happy to supply information about London and the appropriate web sites for ticket agents. We do have a reliable agent for hard to get tickets but they tend to be expensive.
