Description:Fantastic location in the heart of charming Concord Center home of the revolution, Thoreau, Emerson, Walden Pond and 30/45 minutes from downtown Boston & 30 minutes from Cambridge. There is a commuter train less than 1 mile from our house that is easily walkable so having a car though nice is optional. We have 2 bedrooms (Each room is $85/night) available each with a queen bed so we can accommodate up to 4 guests. There is a private bath shared by the 2 rooms. AC or fans provided when needed. Fridge use and light kitchen use. I would not rent out the rooms to separate groups at the same time since there is one bathroom for the 2 rooms. Our street is tree lined and quiet even though steps away from restaurants, music, shopping, cafes, parks, theater, conservation land & a terrific yoga studio. Town & Country Begin with a leisurely, yet invigorating 2 hour drive (from Brooklyn, less time from Manhattan) up the picturesque Taconic Parkway winding through the Hudson River Valley. Or if you prefer to kick back, you can take Amtrak from Penn Station to the Rhinecliff Station. This most scenic train journey takes you along the Hudson River all the way from New York City. From there you need to either rent a car or take a cab to our house. This modern home is located on a scenic country road, ten minutes from the village of Rhinebeck. A popular weekend destination, Rhinebeck is well known as the home of Omega Institute (eomega.org / 5 minute drive) as well as for its fine dining establishments (Gigi Trattoria, Arielle, Starr Place, Terrapin, Zen Dog, China Rose, etc), fine boutiques (Haldora, No Sugar, Winter Sun & Summer Moon, Cesare & Lili, etc), and specialty shops (Paper Trail, Face of Stockholm, Hammertown, Oblong Books & Music, etc.). You can see a first run independent film at the popular art house cinema Upstate Films. Every weekend you can find the best produce, baked goods, prepared foods that the Hudson Valley has to offer at the Rhinebeck Farmers Market. There is also an excellent health food store in town (Rhinebeck Health Foods/the Garden Street Cafe) that has a great little cafe (try the Avocado Supreme). Rhinebeck is also home to the Dutchess County Fairgrounds which hosts the famous Dutchess County Fair, the annual Sheep and Wool Fest, Rhinebeck Antiques Fair and many more events throughout the year. Accomodations Our contemporary house is a perfect home away from home. Easily accommodating four to six people, the open floor plan is cozy and inviting. Families are welcome (no pets please). We have three bedrooms and two full baths, a modern chefs kitchen (and outdoor gas grill), a screened in back porch with picnic table, and a fireplace where you can warm your bones after a long day. You are welcome to select a movie from our large, eclectic dvd library (includes many childrens videos). We have wifi so you can keep in touch with the outside world if you want to (don t forget to bring your laptop). Our well stocked bookcase includes a section dedicated to the historic Hudson Valley. Two adult bikes and a child s bike are also available for your use. For your convenience, we have an easily accessible washer and dryer. Nature and Nurture If you simply want to get away from it all and enjoy nature, the valley offers excellent birdwatching, hiking, apple picking, biking, and horseback riding minutes from our front door. You can also kick back on our private landscaped three acre property and read a good book in a hammock, or play a rousing game of Bocce on our full size court. The kids will love to bounce on the trampoline (with supervision please). Adults can find yoga and pilates studios in the village. In the winter months, exceptional sledding may be had on the rolling hills at Mills Mansion and nearby Burger Hill Park (affectionately referred to as Rocket Run by our boys). Skiing is also nearby, the catkills and berkshire ski venues are about 45 minutes away. The Night Sky Whatever the season, I am in awe of our night sky. When the sun settles down beyond the Catskills and dusk gives way to dark, the scene is set for the grand celestial dance of the moon and stars in the sky above. Though we have many tall trees on our property, the view is immense and stunning. Feel free to bring your telescopes or binoculars. A Secret Garden We also offer a wonderful environment to get in touch with your inner gardener. The fresh white walls and furnishings, the warm brown of the teakwood frames, and the cool aquamarine and cobalt blue of the ceramic pool tiles, form the dominant colours, juxtaposed against the greenery of Bali's exotic plants. Entrance, garden and swimming pool A snaking pathway leads from a spacious car parking area to the main entrance marked by an unusual pivot door. Visitors will then traverse an ornamental pond flanked by twin palm trees and firebowls. Water plays a central and important role in the agriculturally based culture of Bali, and this has been reflected in the layout of the property. A stunning swimming pool has been designed to link the three pavilions. The pool flows with the living design and joins everything together, coming right up to the edge of the rooms to create an intimate connection between each pavilion. A timber sundeck extends from the main living area, and Palimanan stone sun terraces are situated opposite each other on either side of the pool. One terrace is furnished with sun loungers and umbrellas, the other with a barbeque and a large table with bench seats for alfresco dining. Additional shade is provided by two twisting frangipani trees, during the day these sweet scented flowering trees cast cool shadows, while at night they appear to dance on the shimmering water of the pool. Living and Sleeping Pavilion The symmetrical living and sleeping pavilion is a 2 storey building. The downstairs living room opens directly onto the timber deck bordering the pool. Graced with lazy chairs and deeply cushioned sofas, the white colour theme is broken by the occasional splash of colour and a fine collection of antique framed prints on the walls. This carefully crafted room, with its cool terrazzo floor, easily earns its place as the nexus of the property, and is ideal for entertaining and relaxing. The doors at each end open fully to create a moving air flow, while exposing a sparkling water cascade bounded by a hedge of young bamboo at the back. A guest powder room, with toilet and washbasin, is located to one side of the water cascade. Big circular cushioned cane chairs rest upon the pool deck at the front underneath a Sunbrella canopy, which provides shelter and shade and is reminiscent of the sails of a boat. A Palimanan staircase leads up to a timber floored mezzanine, another breezy living space furnished with a large daybed and a plasma wide screen satellite TV and DVD player. This area is fitted with doors that open completely onto a balcony running the length of the pavilion, overhanging the garden. The balcony is also accessed from each of the upstairs bedrooms. Large picture windows on the stair landing overlook the neighbouring rice fields. The main living area and upstairs mezzanine face directly west. Due to the close proximity of the beach, the skyline is uncluttered, presenting great views of the Balinese sunsets complete with the palm trees silhouetted against red and purple skies. Bedrooms & Bathrooms All four air conditioned bedrooms, with their en suite bathrooms and cream terrazzo floors, are the same size and shape, two are located downstairs and two are located upstairs, mirror images of each other in keeping with the perfect symmetry. Three of the bedrooms are furnished with king size beds with diaphanous white drapes. The fourth bedroom, upstairs, is fitted out as a children's room, designed to sleep four kids in bunk beds. Each bedroom is complemented by fitted white louvre wardrobes, white storage units and white curtains. Description:This is a deluxe villa in a gated villa complex. It is located in the artists village of Penestanan in Ubud, the cultural, artistic and spiritual capital of Bali. It has an ensuite bathroom with a rainshower. It shares a pool with another villa, but if there is no occupant there, the pool is all yours. The villa complex is secluded and surrounded by lush greenery, yet is just a 15 minute walk from the centre of town. No cars are allowed in the immediate vicinity, so it's super quiet. But we have golf buggies to ferry you and your luggage. Friendly staff , free wifi and a fabulous restaurant overlooking a gorge make this probably one of the best deals you can find in Ubud.
