Designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, it is Mexico’s largest wetlandnature reserve.Sian Ka’an marks the end of the Mayan Riviera just south of Tulum. Its endless stretches of untouchedmangroves, jungle, lakes, lagoons and deserted Caribbean beaches are home to an extraordinary array ofbirds and wildlife in an ecologically protected environment. Sian Ka’an is home to many exotic creatures, including 103 known mammal species (such as jaguars, tapirs, manatees, ocelots, crocodiles) and336 known bird species (pelicans, falcons, vultures, cormorants, storks, and hundreds of exotic birds),amphibians and reptiles. There are very few inhabited spots along the coast, and development is tightly regulated, which gives this50-km stretch of Caribbean Sea coastline a feeling of remote tranquility and relative isolation. Theatmosphere is in stark contrast to the rest of the Mexican Riviera further north – it is the anti-Cancun. Thewild road from Tulum through Boca Paila to Punta Allen at land’s end is one for the adventurous andboasts fabulous views of sea, sky, sand and jungle. Sian Ka’an is truly deserving of its Mayan name, meaning ‘where the Sky is born’.Sian Ka’an is also an ideal place from which to explore the Meso-American Reef, the largest coral reefsystem in the Western Hemisphere (and second-largest in the world after Australia’s Great Barrier Reef). It extends over 450 miles from the northern coastal waters of the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico, along thecoasts of Belize and Guatemala, down to the Bay Islands off the coast of Honduras. The Meso-AmericanReef was recently identified as one of the Top 10 coral reef ‘Biodiversity Hotspots’ in the world. It contains some of the most highly-developed coral formations in the world (more than 65 species of stonycoral), supporting an amazing diversity of marine life. More than 500 species of fish have been recordedalong the reef, many of which support the livelihoods of local fishermen residing along the Caribbean coast. It is not uncommon to see dolphins while snorkeling along the reef and sea turtles lolling on the beaches. The Sian Ka’an, and the Punta Allen area in particular, are world-class sites for saltwater flats and flyfishing, and attract light-tackle anglers from around the globe year-round.Not simply for serious birdwatchers and fishermen, the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve has much to offeranyone with an appreciation for, and a love of unspoiled nature.Sol Caribe can arrange a wide variety of tours for guests, whatever their interests – bird watching, wildlife, snorkeling, kayaking, fly fishing, Mayan ruins. One-day tours are run by local non-profit organizations andhighly-qualified guides, and offer a glimpse into the intricate and dramatic interplay of nature and history ina unique ecological environment.Snorkeling trips out to the Meso-American Reef, the largest coral reef eco-system in the WesternHemisphere.Boat trips around the lagoon to mangroves and islands full of nesting birds (pelicans, ibis, heron, egretsand roseate spoonbills are commonly sighted, as is the occasional crocodile).Trips to the Muyil ruins, a Mayan archaeological site within the Sian Ka’an surrounded by jungle, followedby floating in life-jackets through ancient canals.Lagoon and sea kayakingWorld-class saltwater fly fishing in the Bahia de la Ascension (Ascension Bay) and Boca Paila lagoon:bonefish, snook, tarpon and permit.Deep-sea fishing for marlin, sailfish, mahi-mahi, grouper and barracudaSol Caribe supports the initiatives of the Meso-American Reef Fund (MAR Fund), a conservation trustproject of the World Wildlife Federation which promotes and encourages sustainable tourism within theMeso-American Barrier Reef System.Tours:Ecotour classic: visit the lagoon to the south, the bird island and the beautiful coral reef by boat, the guidewill tell you everything about the birds in the Reserve, he will try to find turtles, crocodiles, starfish anddolphins, he will show you the different types of mangroves. You will find the namesake for the site, the reclining Chac Moolwhich represents one of the most powerful deities of the ancient Maya. Chac was the God of rain andthunder, and his color was red. After Tulum Beach, you will enter the Sian Ka’an BiosphereReserve through the arch at its northern entrance. It is impossible to get lost because there is only one roadheading south through the Reserve – and you’re on it!Most guidebooks say that the road from Tulum to Punta Allen is terrible. Is this true and what kind of car do Ineed for it?It is true that the road used to be in terrible shape, particularly after storms. In the last year or so, however,it has been extensively resurfaced and there are constant and ongoing improvements being made to it. Youcan now get to Punta Allen from Tulum in around two hours and pretty much any car will do. In bad weatherthough, a Jeep or 4-wheel drive will always come in handy. The closest gas station is in Tulum, so rememberto refuel before entering the Sian Ka’an. If you do run out of gas, however, usually somebody in Punta Allen isalways willing to sell you some.Public transportation : There is a minivan from Tulum to Punta Allen at 2 pm daily leaving from the main taxistation in Tulum. The price is $ 250 Pesos per person and way. The van leaves Punta Allen at 6 am headingback to Tulum.Private Airport transfer: We can arrange a private airport transfer for US$ 250 per way (for 1- 2 person, US$ 30more for every additional person.)At the request of many of our long-time guests, we have now installed wi-fi and it is available in the receptionarea. Description:Our collection of 12 villas are situated just a 10-minute stroll from the sand-dune backed beach of Campomarino, with all the comforts needed for a nice seaside holiday. Each villa has its own entrance, private gated parking, garden and terrace for eating al fresco. Each of the luxury self catering villas has three bedrooms and two shower-rooms. The villas come fully equipped with air-conditioning, linen, towels, TV, iron & iron board, kitchen utensils and washing machine. On arrival, you will find a bottle of local Italian wine on the table – and if you send us a shopping list in advance, we will ensure you have fresh, locally sourced food for your first Italian meal. You can reach the village of Campomarino di Maruggio by flying to either Bari (Palese) or Brindisi (Papola Casale) Airports with less than a 1.5hrs drive. The region of Puglia has 800km of stunning coastline, covering the entire heel of south of Italy. With the beach just around the corner, go-karting, snorkelling and horse-riding – not to mention all those gelaterias – there is something for the whole group.Puglia is the ‘heel of Italy’ – the long peninsula in the south of the country that juts out into the Adriatic and Mediterranean Seas. The region is particularly popular in the summer months of July and August, when temperatures reach 30*C and above. In the quieter months of May, June, September and October, temperatures range between 20-25*C. Famed for its culinary produce – from olive oil to wine and from raw fish to 200 types of pasta – Puglia is known as the garden of Italy. The region is dotted with little white conical buildings called trulli, which were originally used as dry storehouses, but are now converted into dwellings. There are many historic towns to explore, with narrow mazes of streets and piazzas surrounded by Baroque ad Greek architecture. What to find nearby GROCERY SHOPPING: The two nearest supermarkets are just a five minute walk from the villas. For local specialities and delicacies, Maruggio (five minutes away in the car) has a local butcher, a fresh fruit and vegetable shop and bakery. PHARMACY: There is a local pharmacy a ten-minute walk from the villas and another in Maruggio, a slightly longer walk away or accessible by car. BARS AND GELATERIA: There are a few bars within walking distance from the villas – try ‘Il planet’ for excellent cocktails.A ten-minute stroll away from the villas is the beach bar Frutteria Annibale –perfect for a fresh fruit platter, an afternoon drink or a casual evening out. Combining a bar with an ice-cream parlour is a uniquely Italian concept: Panna e Cioccolato , La Meringa and Sandrino are all within walking distance of the villas. Our favourite bar gelateria is Panna e Cioccolato, especially for its ‘aperitivo’: try the refreshing combination of Aperol (a light version of Campari) and cedrata (made from a local citrus fruit called etrog). RESTAURANTS: For a light meal, head to a ‘rosticcerie’. Il Bomber and Rosticceria Longo sell ‘panzerotto’ (pastries filled with tasty tomato sauce and mozzarella) and ‘focaccia’ (delicious local bread topped with onions, olive oil, capers and black olives) and are just a few minutes’ walk from the villas.Le Piccole Ore is a family friendy restaurant favoured by locals. It offers an outside terrace or inside tables and serves traditional Italian fare.La Siesta is a family-run restaurant is known for its delicious traditional food and amazing wood-fired pizza oven in the heart of Sava, about 10km inland from Campomarino. Two of our favourite beachfront restaurants are situated between Campomarino and Torre Oveo. Both Elisir and Posto 9 (10-minutes drive) are relaxing family-friendly, and offer a variety of delicious dishes, from pizza to seafood.Surrounded by acres of olive groves and countryside, the “La 'nchianata Pub can offers delicious local food and a fantastic atmosphere. The restaurant is just a short drive towards Torre Ovo, following signs to Torricella. ACTIVITIES:Wine Tour - Cantine di San Marzano is one of the most modern wine production facilities in the south. The tour of the winery includes tasting, a visit to one of the more ancient vineyards and a potted history of the wine production in the area. During the ‘Cantine Aperte’ event, this winery opens the door over few days during which guided tours, tasting of wines, cultural events, music performances and dance. Diving - The Mare del Sud Diving Centre is 10 min walk from the villas, inside the Campomarino seaport. They organise dives at nearby San Pietro in Bevagna, where you can swim around the 22 white marble sarcophagi dating from AD150-300. Another interesting diving point is the Chidro river, a natural oasis of rare beauty. And to end the experience, they offer you a snack of ‘taralli’ (a pretzel-shaped breadstick) with a glass of wine. Snorkelling / diving: Only 50m off the sandy beach between Casalbate and San Cataldo is an incredible wreck, sunk by the Royal Navy in 1941. You can actually swim from room to room inside it. The turnoff is just beyond Torre Rinalda if you are heading towards San Cataldo. Go-karting - There are two go-karting tracks nearby: one between Torricella and Sava and another at nearby Maruggio, no more than a 15-mis drive. Mini golf - There is a mini-golf course a few minutes’ walk from the villas.... more info >>

Description:Gili Meno, the middle island, the smallest of the three Gili's and it is the quietest with fewer tourists. A great escape for someone who wants to get away from it all. Special features of the island is the salt lake and spectacular dive sites such as, Meno Wall, Sea Turtle Point, and Blue Coral Point. The beach on eastern part of the island is very nice and there's snorkeling just offshore and further north.Gili Meno has a population of about 300 locals. The interior of the island is mostly a palm trees surrounded by grass which is kept neat by cows munching lazily in the shade. There are no cars or motorbikes on the island, all transport is by horse-drawn carts or on foot. The diving was pretty good, with quite a strong current but that incredible swimming-pool visibility that you get on good days off the islands in SE Asia. The relaxed pace of life and the community feeling on the island is really special. In Gili Meno, where fresh water is shipped from Lombok, eco-friendly practices are not an option. It is a necessity.DIVE SITES ON GILI ISLANDS, LOMBOK INDONESIA There are over 3,500 marine species living in the reefs and seas of Indonesia. In comparison to the Great Barrier Reef (1,500 species) and Red Sea (600 species), 25 % of all reefs in the world are in Indonesia. The drop-offs, plateaus and slopes of the Gili's reflect a good cross-section of what Indonesia has to offer. Dive in and be fascinated by turtles, White-tip Reef Sharks, Cuttlefish, Moray Eels, Angel Fish, Ghost Pipefish and more.Around the three Gili Island in the north-west of Lombok (Gili Air, Gili Meno, Gili Trawangan), are more then 15 different dive spots and there are new reefs being explored all the time.Shark Point & Volkers' Golf Course Shark Point, to the east of Gili Trawangan, is a popular dive spot in the mornings. This dive site consists of different levels (24m, 20m, 18m). It starts with a slope of hard and soft corals, the native territory of Green and Hawksbill Turtles. The different levels are sandy areas with small coral locks - the variety of underwater life is large, starting with schools of Trevally Napoleon Fish to White-tip Reef Sharks and Rays in the sandy areas, ending up with Ribbon Eels, Leaf Fish and even Mantas. Volkers' Golf Course is about 500 m east of Shark Point and starts at a depth of about 20m. It looks green like a golf course and is the best site to see Sharks, Schools of Mackerel and Doctor Fish. Because of its depth and the sometimes very strong currents, it is a dive for advanced divers.Meno Wall Meno wall, off the west coast of Gili Meno, goes down to depths of 18m. It offers a lot of small coral fish like Lionfish, Soldier Fish, Gobies, crabs, as well as Wart Slugs and Nudibranches coming out of hiding. It is also called Turtle Heaven because of the many resident Hawksbill and Green Turtles.Air Wall Air Wall, to the west of Gili Air, is a very beautiful wall that, due to the soft coral cover, shines yellow-orange depending on the position of the sun. The highlight of this wall is a coral block at 22m in which Leaf Fish (Scorpion Fish) make their home, surrounded by shrimps, Pipe Fish, White-banded Cleaner Shrimps and thousands of Glass Fish. Look into the deeper parts for White-tip Reef Sharks.Coral Fan Garden & Basket Coral Garden Also popular for morning dives are the two dive spots in the north of Gili Trawangan: Coral Fun Garden and Basket Coral Garden. In the first few metres you have the feeling of being in an aquarium - schools of colored Fairy Basslets, Fusiliers, Banner Fish live here. Deeper, around the big coral and stone blocks, Groupers, Batfish, Trumpet Fish, hiding Octopus and Bearded Scorpion Fish. Look out to the blue: sometimes Eagle Rays, Mantas or Reef Sharks can be seen.Manta Point In the rainy season, when the water is rich with plankton, this dive site in the south of Gili Trawangan gives you the best chance to see Manta Rays. But even without the Mantas, you still have a good chance to see Reef Sharks and Turtles.... more info >>

Chichen Itza, because there have beenseveral Chac Mool statues found there. You will find the namesake for the site, the reclining Chac Moolwhich represents one of the most powerful deities of the ancient Maya. Chac was the God of rain andthunder, and his color was red. It's interesting that one of the Chac Mool's hands was red, apparently aremnant from its creators. Includes lunch. 7-8 hoursUS$ 450 per boat (2 pers. max.)For those guests who are renting a car at Cancun airport, take Highway 307 south to Tulum (approx 1.5hours). At the first crossroads in Tulum, turn left towards Tulum Playa (Beach) and take this beach road allthe way down to Sol Caribe (another 35 kms). Cellphone reception is still not available, however. We have a landline at Sol Caribe, which isavailable to guests in emergencies.Sol Caribe serves breakfast (7am to 10am), lunch (12pm to 3 pm) and dinner (6pm to 9pm), our restaurant is also open for guests not staying at the resort. The bar is a lively place and open until 10pm.For guests who would like to sample the local cuisine, there are a number of restaurants in Punta Allen, a laidback fishing village five miles down the road. There is plenty to do around Punta Allen and inside the Sian Ka’an! You can go sea kayaking or lagoonkayaking, or even just snorkeling, right from our beach. We have kayaks and equipment available for our guests.... more info >>
