Our Adirondack vacation rental has 550 feet of frontage on the East Branch of the Ausable River. Walk, hike, or cross country ski on the secluded and quiet property. More extensive hiking can be found in the surrounding High Peaks Region. We are six miles from Whiteface Mountain Ski area so you can be on the slopes ..in minutes. Lake Placid and the Olympic Village are just a nineteen mile ride where you can find many shops, restaurants, and activities. Rivers, lakes, and streams can be found in every direction to enjoy boating, fishing, canoeing, or swimming. Back in our Lake Placid Whiteface house there is plenty of room to relax with over 4200 sq. feet of living space without a neighbor in sight. The home features a great room on the main floor with twenty six foot high ceilings and a full glass front to let in the view. A center fireplace with a large stone chimney is the only divide between the great room, dining room, kitchen, and foyer to provide a spacious gathering area with plenty of seating. The kitchen has green Shaker style cabinets with granite counter tops and stainless appliances and is stocked with all the cookware and settings you need. Also located on the main floor is the master bedroom suite with a walk in closet. The master bath has a whirlpool tub and a walk in 8 ' x 4 ' shower with dual shower heads. There is also a half bath on the main floor. Upstairs there are two bedrooms with queen beds and one bedroom with four single beds bunked. The second floor also has two full baths and a large loft area with a full size bed. On the lower level there is a fifth bedroom with a queen bed, another full bath, a laundry room, and a very large rec room. Large back bedroom has tile floors providing a cool room to rest during the day. This bedroom has a piano, desk/computer work area, free wifi, satellite TV and queen bed. Front bedroom has a double bed, large closet and opens up to the deck and 6-person hot tub. The deck has comfortable seating for many people, redwood picnic table and gas barbeque with rotisserie. Description:THE MAIN COTTAGE on Badour Island, was designed and built by Jonathan Rousham and was written up in Fine Homebuilding.It is a beautiful post and beam cottage, with windows everywhere. The floors are pine, there is an open plan kitchen, dining room, and living room. A wood burning stove sits in the middle of the large room. The ceilings are two floors high, with a second set of windows on all four sides 16 feet high. It looks like a pagoda.There are three small bedrooms. One flight up is a bedroom with a queen size bed, surrounded on three sides by windows. photo below . The 4th side overlooks the living room. It is like a crows nest, which was one name we thought of for the building.On the main floor, are two bedrooms, each with a wall of windows. One has a very expensive and especially comfortable queen size bed below The bathroom is on the main floor and has a shower and fancy flush compost toilet that operates like a normal toilet.The kitchen is fully equipped with a dishwasher, trash compactor, and just about any spice you can imagine. There are many pots and pans, including a wok, and many small appliances such as a cappuccino machine, coffee grinder, coffee maker, waffle maker, electric ice cream machine, Sunbeam mixer, blender, toaster, microwave, food processor etc.We have a water purification system and the water is safe to drink from all the faucets. We also have a water cooler, which takes the 5 gallon water bottles.There is a large deck across the front of the cottage that wraps around to the back where there is a new Napoleon gas bbq. There are hammocks and swinging chairs on the property. There are tables to eat out on the deck and chairs to relax in as you take in the beautiful view of the lake.In back of the cottage is a shed with a washer and dryer, a half size basketball court with mural, and an outdoor hot shower.The dock 79 steps down has a deck with two Adirondack chairs, a swinging bench and a chaise lounge, a shed with refrigerator for cool drinks and storage for tubes, fishing poles, water skis and paddles.The cottage is equipped with a kayak and a canoe. We share a paddleboat with the little cottage on the rock Isaacs Acres , two minutes away by canoeWe compost our fruits and vegetables in a composter in the back of the cottage, not only for environmental reasons, but to limit the trash that we collect. All trash has to be brought to the dump. The trash compactor considerably limits the amount. We also recycle.The dining table seats 8 comfortably, but can be extended to fit 10, 12 or even 16 by adding on any of the three outdoor tables that are the same height and width.Most people bring their iPods, but there is a CD player in the living room. Fish off the end of the dock, or out on the lake. n nThe three levels of the house give plenty of room for you to spread out. There are two bedrooms and a bathroom on the upper level, the main level has two entry doors, kitchen and dining area and living room with another full bathroom, the lower, lawn level has a third bedroom and family room with sliding door access to the hot tub, lawn with volleyball/badminton net and the lake. There is an outdoor grill near the lake and a fire pit, plus a combination gas and charcoal grill on the deck that surrounds the main level of the house. nThe log cabin has all the amenities of home. It is fully furnished, with many pieces hand made by Maine artisans. Mattresses are top of the line from a factory south of Portland. Quality bedding and towels are provided. The kitchen has a large refrigerator with ice maker, dishwasher, stove with vent hood, microwave, drip and plunger coffee makers plus coffee bean grinder, hand blender, toaster, cake mixer. There is also a washer and dryer. For the convenience of our guests, we make sure that there are supplies of kitchen basics like flour, sugar, baking powder, oil, a range of condiments and spices, coffee and tea, some cereals. Everything you need for cooking, including a lobster pot! Don't want to cook on vacation? No problem. We give you full information on nearby restaurants as well as excellent seafood sources where you can get lobsters, mussels and other delicacies cooked for you. There are also two good supermarkets nearby. nAs well as the amenities of the house and the enjoyment of the lake, there is an endless range of activities in this Western Mountains and Lakes region of Maine. We provide lots of information on local and regional activities for you - or you can just spend the days enjoying the lake and the boating options, with a dip in the hot tub at the end of the day. nThe six-person hot tub is very popular with guests, as is the 8'x8' swim raft. nFor entertainment in the evenings, the family room has a 50 inch TV with cable, XBox Kinect 360, Wii. The beautiful oak picnic table on the deck is a favorite place for coffee as you listen to the extraordinary call of the loons and watch the mist rising off the water. nThe lake has an area of over 100 acres - just right for paddling around in the kayak or canoe - and maximum depth of 23'. Fishermen should find small mouth and large mouth bass, chain pickerel, golden shiners, white or yellow perch. The water is clear. Be sure to approach the loons very slowly, they usually dive just as you get the camera shot perfectly framed. If you want to bring your own boat, there is a public launch site on nearby Wilson Lake in Wilton. nBoating, swimming, fishing and relaxing are wonderful ways to enjoy the property, but there are many interesting things to see and do in this Western Mountains and Lakes region of Maine, within an hour or two's drive. This is a major hunting area in the fall, and there are many county fairs to enjoy. The foliage in the fall is glorious. Enjoy the fall colors from the deck or while hiking through the trails in the Farmington woods or nearby Mt Blue State Park. nThe same chain of mountains as in Vermont and New Hampshire also carved their way through Maine, a few eons ago. The two major ski areas of Sunday River and Sugarloaf are each an hour away. Titcomb ski area is about ten minutes away in Farmington (small ski area but very good cross country trails and very friendly people), Black Mountain near Rumford, about 28 miles away, Eaton Mountain near Skowhegan is about the same distance away in another direction.
