Description:Imagine a place that was brilliantly designed and a real gem. Sounds pretty intriguing, right? Well, you 'll find that those are the exact words used to describe this vacation rental in France by previous guests who just loved it! Bordering the Dronne River, this self-catering accommodation near Chenaud has a peaceful and pleasant setting in the beautiful countryside. Incredible, stunning, and lovingly restored, this is just the place to spend the holidays in France! n n2.6 hectares (6.4 acres): The chateau was built in the 17th century, with the foundation dating back to 1090. In the 18th and 19th century the chateau was enlarged with 2 more parts. All sections are attached to each other with 3-foot thick walls. The different styles of the various constructions are visible, which lends an attractive rambling aspect to the building. For example, in the 17th century the cellar, now used for wine storage, was the kitchen. The original details are still visible. The property is accessed via a quiet little road that connects two small villages. The graveled courtyard leads to the house, barn and garden. The backyard overlooks the winding Dronne River where there is a dock (4m x 7m) where guests can sit and to enjoy the riverside and the canoes passing by. The large garden is completely private, the north, south and west sides consist of typical large French walls, the river Dronne is on the east side of the property. The south of the property has a splendid view of the 12th century Roman church of Chenaud. There is garden furniture in both sunny and shaded areas of the garden. There are huge 100-year old oak and line trees, as well as apple, peach, cherry, prune and chestnut trees. New plantain trees have been planted. At the far end of the garden is a little pond. nThe largest part of the chateau, an apartment named Silver Truffle, was built in the 18th century, and the second unit, La Floreale, dates back to the 17th century. Both sections are tastefully decorated with antique and exquisite fabrics, combined with pieces of modern European art. All bedrooms (except the two in La Floreale) still have the original fireplaces, but due to safety reasons they are not useable. The 19th century part is still under restoration and in use by the owners. Beside the main house is a large barn with two towers and an old well. La Vesunna is an apartment in the barn, which has been beautifully restored and decorated. n nSilver Truffle (275m2): nGround floor: One enters the entrance hall with floor tiles and wooden beams from the 17th century. From this hall one can access the living area, a bedroom, and a bathroom with a washing machine and dryer. The living area includes a large fireplace (wood is available for an extra cost), a fully equipped kitchen, dining table and comfortable seating close to the fireplace. The decor is a combination of antique and modern art. The bedroom has a king-size bed (or twin beds, depending upon the preference), 300-year old oak floors, built-in electronic safe, and a small wash basin. The bathroom, separate from the bedroom, has a WC, shower, sink, washing machine and dryer, and radiant floor heating. nFirst floor: From the hall there is access to the 300-year old staircase to the first floor. From the landing there is a wonderful view over the Dronne River. From here there are three spacious bedrooms. The first bedroom, with a safari theme, has a king-size bed, and an en suite bathroom with a WC, circle-shaped shower, sink and floor heating. This bedroom also has a built-in electronic safe. The second bedroom, decorated in red, has twin beds which can be made into a king-size bed upon request, and an en suite bathroom with WC, shower and sink. There is a built-in electronic safe. The third bedroom has twin beds which can be made into a king-size bed upon request, and an en suite bathroom with WC, shower, sink and radiant floor heating. The bedroom has a built-in electronic safe. There is central heating and each radiator can be individually adjusted. nLa Floreale (120m2): nGround floor: On the ground floor is the living area, including a living/dining room, kitchen an entrance hall and guest bathroom. From the entrance hall one can access the guest bathroom with a WC and sink, as well as the washing machine and dryer, iron and ironing board (located in a closet). Also from the entrance one can access the living/dining room and the fully equipped kitchen. The living room is the oldest part of the chateau, dating back to 1626. The living/dining room decor is modern with antique elements and the room features a wood stove with the furniture surrounding the stove. From the kitchen you can access a large balcony where you can enjoy your breakfast in the morning sun. There is a built-in electronic safe. nFirst floor: A staircase goes to the first floor, where there are two double bedrooms, each with king-size beds (or twin beds, depending upon the preference). There are two en suite bathrooms, each with a shower, sink and WC. There is central heating. nLa Vesunna (90m2): nGround floor: This accommodation is in the old barn. From the entrance one can access the guest bathroom with WC and sink and the laundry room with a washing machine, dryer, iron and ironing board. The living area includes an open-plan, fully equipped kitchen, with door which opens onto a beautiful south-facing terrace with a view of a 12th century church. The living room is tastefully decorated. There is a CD player and a built-in electronic safe. There is radiant floor heating in the living room. nFirst floor: There is a large bedroom with an electronically adjustable king-size bed and a bathroom with WC, bidet, sink and shower. There is radiant floor heating in the bathroom. n nLocated on the border of the Dordogne and Charente regions of Southern France, this charming chateau is located just outside of the medieval village of Chenaud (population of 340). The area is a quiet little valley on the west side of the Dordogne region. There is a bakery and butcher shop less than 5 km south in St. Aulaye, 5 km north there is a good grocery store in Chalais. nBordeaux: 69 km nAngouleme: 59 km nPerigueux: 50 km nRiberac: 19.2 km nAubeterre sur Dronne: 9.6 km nSt. Aulaye: 4.8 km nChalais: 4.8 km n nAvailable Amenities: nSilver Truffle: central gas heating, dishwasher, oven, microwave, coffee maker, blender, mixer, roaster, CD player and stereo in the living room, Broadband and wireless internet connection, laptop computer available on request, washing machine, dryer, iron and ironing board, hair dryer in each bathroom, built-in safe in each bedroom. A very comfortable sitting room lies to the front of the house with 3 big windows, a large sofa and chairs in which to sit and relax or to watch tv in front of the flat-screen tv (with Sky). Again, theree28099s a wood stove for colder nights. nOn the second floor is another large bathroom with roll top bath (and shower attachment), basin, WC, large mirror and window for extra light and fresh air. nThis bathroom can be used by guests in the master bedroom on the third floor. A bespoke wrought iron bed frame holds a king-sized mattress which is made up with comfortable white bedding, pillows and cushions. There are bedside tables, a flat-screen tv, built-in robes, a chest of drawers and a dressing table and mirror. This is a bright room with 3 large windows and the blue/grey e28098sea foame28099 painted walls again stay true to the original Georgian colour palette. nThe third bedroom has views of the garden, to the back of the house, and is made up as a nursery. Theree28099s also a sofa bed which can sleep a couple of adults. nThis home impresses, literally, on every level! However, guests never fail to be surprised by the loft-style sitting room at the very top of the house. This room was where the silk weavers worked. They needed light for their weaving and theree28099s an abundance of glass, with windows to the front and back at one level and windows above, into the raised ceiling space. This is a really comfortable room, with plenty of space to recline on a collection of sofas and chairs and a library of books. While ite28099s perfect place to read or listen to music, the space has also been designed with entertaining in mind. Theree28099s a projector to create a home cinema in the room and a small drinks fridge for intermission! Theree28099s a small roof terrace to the front of the house which has superb views of the famous Christ Church (designed by Nicholas Hawksmoor in 1711) and the City of London. To the back, theree28099s a good-sized terrace with table and chairs for al fresco dining with views of the neighbouring roof-tops. Again, the views are impressivee280a6 what a vantage point to see celebratory fireworks at Christmas/New Year or, especially given its easterly view, during the London Olympics! nThere are wooden floors, sea grass mats, high ceilings, central heating and wi-fi internet throughout the house. Accoustic glass in all the windows ensures quiet within the home. nAn additional bonus in this home is the self-contained 1 bed apartment on the lower ground floor. With 2 big windows, this room is light and airy. Theree28099s a double bed, bedside tables, chairs and a chest of drawers. In the open plan living and kitchen area youe28099ll find an oven hob, fridge/freezer, washing machine, sofa bed, table and chairs. The bathroom is tiled in white and mint green with a bath (and shower attachment), WC, basin, large mirror and heated towel rail. From the living area, hardwood steps lead you up into the garden, which can also be accessed from the ground level of the main house. nHere youe28099ll find a brand new contemporary conservatory or e28098wintere28099 garden. With a double-height ceiling, rendered light ochre-coloured walls and a limestone floor, the garden makes an impact! A retractable glass roof offers indoor/outdoor living and means the garden can be used all year round. For summer days and nights, open the roof for al fresco dining. For cooler days, youe28099ll be kept cosy by the under floor heating underneath the limestone flooring. Theree28099s a large table and a few comfortable chairs for dining and entertaining. The area is decked with plants, creating a true oasis of calm. Who would know that youe28099re just moments from hustle of the markets and Londone28099s financial district?! nSpitalfields is an historic location in the heart of the City and the house is a stonee28099s throw from Spitalfields Market. This is one of Londone28099s oldest and finest Victorian market halls, home to an array of market stalls, boutiques, unique clothing, specialty food shops, cafes and some of Londone28099s finest restaurants. Ite28099s a e28098must visite28099 for tourists and Londoners alike, rivalling Portobello Market for popularity. nNearby Brick Lane (5 minute walk), with its many famed Indian restaurants, also has its own market on the weekends and smaller markets, such as the Sunday UpMarket and the stalls/shops on Cheshire Street, are also worth a look. Theree28099s a cinema and a diverse nightlife too with bars and nightclubs open til late. Londone28099s financial centre is also within walking distance and the Richard Rogere28099s designed Lloyde28099s building, Leadenhall Market, Swiss Re (Gherkin) building and Heron Tower are great examples of Londone28099s diverse architecture. The lively Shoreditch and Hoxton areas are close at hand too and fantastic for exploring independent galleries (White Cube in Hoxton Square), for finding unique clothing and jewellery and all types of cuisine (with particularly authentic Vietnamese, Turkish and Italian restaurants). nThe property is extremely well connected on the London Underground network - a 10 minute walk from both Liverpool Street station (Central, Circle, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan lines and the direct train to Stansted Airport) and Aldgate East station (District and Hammersmith & City lines). For getting to the Olympic Village, youe28099re just 3 stops from Stratford on the Central line. Victoria Park, on the edge of the Regente28099s Canal, is a 10 minute bus journey for some green open space. nThis is one of our favourite homes, with its super location, spaciousness, style, outdoor space and spectacular views. And, in addition, a rare chance to live in a piece of Londone28099s living history!... more info >>
