Description:An unique opportunity to stay in a beautifully modernised former silk weavers' loft in the heart of Londone28099s vibrant East End. c2a0 Spanning over 5 floors, this spacious family home has been delicately and thoughtfully brought up-to-date. c2a0 The artist owner has retained many of the homee28099s original Georgian features while ensuring todaye28099s guests stay in modern comfort. nThe house dates from 1720, at a time when large numbers of French and Flemish Huguenots fleed religious persecution to settle in the area. It was in this very house Londone28099s new immigrants brought with them a new wave of silk-making skills and turned e28098Spitalfields Silke28099 into a world-famous export. nOn the ground floor of the house, youe28099ll find the walls of the open plan kitchen and dining room painted in warm yellow tones, true to the original Georgian colour palette. The kitchen is fully equipped with a double oven, gas hob, extractor fan, microwave, stainless steel fridge/freezer, dishwasher and Nespresso coffee maker. The worktops are granite and the very modern splash-back is made of stainless steel tiles. The kitchen opens into a large dining area where a bespoke maple wood table (which can seat up to 12) takes pride of place. Theree28099s a modern wood stove housed in space which contained the original fireplace. Care has been taken to preserve the original e28098wig cabinetse28099 of the long-time former owners! Light floods into this warm, sunny room from 2 large shuttered windows at the front of the house. nAt the back of the ground floor theree28099s a handy downstairs bathroom with WC and basin. Theree28099s a storage and utility area with washing machine and tumble dryer. nOn the first floor is a large bathroom with a big shower (with rain showerhead), heated towel rail, WC, basin, medicine-style cabinets, a large mirror and window for lots of light and fresh air. A very comfortable sitting room lies to the front of the house with 3 big windows, a large sofa and chairs in which to sit and relax or to watch tv in front of the flat-screen tv (with Sky). Again, theree28099s a wood stove for colder nights. nOn the second floor is another large bathroom with roll top bath (and shower attachment), basin, WC, large mirror and window for extra light and fresh air. nThis bathroom can be used by guests in the master bedroom on the third floor. A bespoke wrought iron bed frame holds a king-sized mattress which is made up with comfortable white bedding, pillows and cushions. There are bedside tables, a flat-screen tv, built-in robes, a chest of drawers and a dressing table and mirror. This is a bright room with 3 large windows and the blue/grey e28098sea foame28099 painted walls again stay true to the original Georgian colour palette. nThe third bedroom has views of the garden, to the back of the house, and is made up as a nursery. Theree28099s also a sofa bed which can sleep a couple of adults. nThis home impresses, literally, on every level! However, guests never fail to be surprised by the loft-style sitting room at the very top of the house. This room was where the silk weavers worked. They needed light for their weaving and theree28099s an abundance of glass, with windows to the front and back at one level and windows above, into the raised ceiling space. This is a really comfortable room, with plenty of space to recline on a collection of sofas and chairs and a library of books. While ite28099s perfect place to read or listen to music, the space has also been designed with entertaining in mind. Theree28099s a projector to create a home cinema in the room and a small drinks fridge for intermission! Theree28099s a small roof terrace to the front of the house which has superb views of the famous Christ Church (designed by Nicholas Hawksmoor in 1711) and the City of London. To the back, theree28099s a good-sized terrace with table and chairs for al fresco dining with views of the neighbouring roof-tops. Again, the views are impressivee280a6 what a vantage point to see celebratory fireworks at Christmas/New Year or, especially given its easterly view, during the London Olympics! nThere are wooden floors, sea grass mats, high ceilings, central heating and wi-fi internet throughout the house. Accoustic glass in all the windows ensures quiet within the home. nAn additional bonus in this home is the self-contained 1 bed apartment on the lower ground floor. With 2 big windows, this room is light and airy. Theree28099s a double bed, bedside tables, chairs and a chest of drawers. In the open plan living and kitchen area youe28099ll find an oven hob, fridge/freezer, washing machine, sofa bed, table and chairs. The bathroom is tiled in white and mint green with a bath (and shower attachment), WC, basin, large mirror and heated towel rail. From the living area, hardwood steps lead you up into the garden, which can also be accessed from the ground level of the main house. nHere youe28099ll find a brand new contemporary conservatory or e28098wintere28099 garden. With a double-height ceiling, rendered light ochre-coloured walls and a limestone floor, the garden makes an impact! A retractable glass roof offers indoor/outdoor living and means the garden can be used all year round. For summer days and nights, open the roof for al fresco dining. For cooler days, youe28099ll be kept cosy by the under floor heating underneath the limestone flooring. Theree28099s a large table and a few comfortable chairs for dining and entertaining. The area is decked with plants, creating a true oasis of calm. Who would know that youe28099re just moments from hustle of the markets and Londone28099s financial district?! nSpitalfields is an historic location in the heart of the City and the house is a stonee28099s throw from Spitalfields Market. This is one of Londone28099s oldest and finest Victorian market halls, home to an array of market stalls, boutiques, unique clothing, specialty food shops, cafes and some of Londone28099s finest restaurants. Ite28099s a e28098must visite28099 for tourists and Londoners alike, rivalling Portobello Market for popularity. nNearby Brick Lane (5 minute walk), with its many famed Indian restaurants, also has its own market on the weekends and smaller markets, such as the Sunday UpMarket and the stalls/shops on Cheshire Street, are also worth a look. Theree28099s a cinema and a diverse nightlife too with bars and nightclubs open til late. Londone28099s financial centre is also within walking distance and the Richard Rogere28099s designed Lloyde28099s building, Leadenhall Market, Swiss Re (Gherkin) building and Heron Tower are great examples of Londone28099s diverse architecture. The lively Shoreditch and Hoxton areas are close at hand too and fantastic for exploring independent galleries (White Cube in Hoxton Square), for finding unique clothing and jewellery and all types of cuisine (with particularly authentic Vietnamese, Turkish and Italian restaurants). nThe property is extremely well connected on the London Underground network - a 10 minute walk from both Liverpool Street station (Central, Circle, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan lines and the direct train to Stansted Airport) and Aldgate East station (District and Hammersmith & City lines). For getting to the Olympic Village, youe28099re just 3 stops from Stratford on the Central line. Victoria Park, on the edge of the Regente28099s Canal, is a 10 minute bus journey for some green open space. nThis is one of our favourite homes, with its super location, spaciousness, style, outdoor space and spectacular views. And, in addition, a rare chance to live in a piece of Londone28099s living history!... more info >>
