Description:Hello Travelers!Welcome to Fordham Studio, a completely private apartment located minutes from EVERYTHING in San Diego, in the exclusive Mission Hills neighborhood.This apartment is definitely small, but it is A BRAND NEW STUDIO, with gorgeous kitchenette, private patio, vaulted ceilings, large private storage area, and your own personal washer/dryer. The studio is one end of a private home but is completely separate.The neighborhood is central, and within walking distance to many shops and bars. It is also freeway close, and within walking distance from the Washington Street Trolley. And it is a 2-minute drive up to Hillcrest, our gay area of town, and one of the most lively. It is also a mile from UCSD Medical and Scripps Mercy Hospital if you are a physician in training. The area is alternately called, Midtown because it is between downtown SD and Uptown (Hillcrest/Banker's Hill) and east of Little Italy, but south of I-8/Mission Valley.AMENITIES OF THE APARTMENT INCLUDE:-Queen-size bed with goose-down comforter & 500 thread-count sheets-Coffee Machine-Toaster-Gas Stove and Oven-New Microwave-New Fridge with Freezer-Washer/Dryer-Private Storage Area-FREE Wifi-32 tv with multiple channels (Roku with Amazon Prime for movies, Pandora, Netflix, Hulu etc.)-Dock Station Stereo Speaker Made for iPad or iPhone.-Internal heater with thermostat, because San Diego gets to 45 degrees sometimes. And, let's talk about this one extensively because surfing in SD is for strong swimmers only.-Plentiful PARKING on my quiet street.- For international guests, the studio also has a cellphone. 1-hour calling cards are $15.00 which you may purchase from me when you arrive. It is a simple phone with basic calling and texting capabilities.- Car2go is a smart car daily rental service that is very handy, and parked within 2 blocks of my house.RESTAURANTS AND BARSYou are within walking distance by a couple of blocks of some top bars and restaurants!- Gelato Vero Cafe - on the corner, 2 mins by foot for coffee, scones, muffins etc. And yummy desserts.- Starlite Lounge (just south) - San Diego's trendiest supper club for hipsters- The Regal Beagle - a craft beer drinker's heaven, & they make the most amazing sausages. I recommend the Moroccan Lamb!- Aero Club - one of San Diego's oldest bars- Shakespeare's Pub - British food, beer and soccer 24/7- El Indio Mexican Food - our best tacos!See my guidebook link for all faves.SHOPPING AND ATTRACTIONS:You are 5 minutes by car from Fashion Valley, Mission Valley, Sea World, Downtown, Old Town, and Balboa Park. You are 10 minutes from the beach, and 20 from the Mexican Border and North County (for the best surf!).-Trolley and Bus Lines to downtown or Hillcrest, Little Italy, or Old Town around the corner. The bus stop is a 4 minute walk, and the trolley station (Washington St) is 7 minutes. There are bus schedules/routes in the apartment to peruse.My very first guest baked biscuits one morning during her stay, which is a testament to how comfortable and easy living in Fordham Studio is. Description:Experience the sweeping drama of French history firsthand with this magnificent chateau in the Loire Valley. Alternately a place of bloody battlefields and noble residences, Joan of Arc trod here, as did Eleanor of Aquitaine and her son, Richard the Lionhearted. In more recent centuries the area blossomed with opulent chateaux and became a playground for nobility, a renaissance that ended with the Revolution. Perhaps it is this unique combination of tragedy and intense beauty that produces the region 's light, fruity wines. Without a doubt, this breathtaking and historic chateau will capture your imagination and put you right back in the middle of it all. As you stroll the sprawling gardens of this Loire valley chateau, laced with fountains and flowers and pools, you 'll know exactly where you are—,but perhaps not quite when. We recommend that you spend several days exploring the famous nearby historic Loire chateaux, tasting the wines, and spending time at your own chateau soaking up the ambiance. n n[2.5 hectares] Entering this completely walled estate, you will pass through a forty-foot-tall arch, listed as a national monument by the French government. Past the arch, you will enter into an enclosed, totally private estate filled with sweeping lawns, fruit orchards, stands of chestnut, poplar, linden, and pine trees, and flower gardens. The icing on the cake is the rose garden, with elaborate arches, benches, shallow canals, and fountains—,with more than 6,000 roses between the pool and the hedge that borders the front of the property. As it can be illuminated at night, the garden is well suited for larger social functions. A lake has a 7 meter high fountain providing a focal point amongst weeping willows. The fountains and lampposts are reminiscent of 19th century Paris, adding to the old-world ambiance. An outdoor dining terrace, accessed via French doors from the breakfast room, is surrounded by a flower garden and a nearby fountain adds the sound of softly running water. The swimming pool [7m x 15m] is surrounded by a flagstone deck, equipped with lounge chairs, a hammock, and large shade umbrellas. There are also two large barbeques [stored in the adjacent orangery] and an all-weather, tournament-grade tennis court [some raquets available]. n n[600 m2] All buildings on this amazing estate have been fully restored to their original glory and are equipped with modern amenities throughout. nCHATEAU [600 m2] nGround Floor: Enter this chateau to find yourself in an elegant, intimate setting, with twelve foot ceilings, long windows, and walls covered with stretched silk tissue tondu. Large mirrors compliment fireplaces, and chandeliers add an extra touch of grace. Floors are limestone or slate, some with oak inlay. Full central heating warms the chateau, and tapestries ornament the flagstone hallway and main staircase. To the left of the entrance hall is the salon, with comfortable seating and a working fireplace. To the right of the fireplace a set of doors leads into the card room/library, which has access to the eastern terrace and garden. To the left of the fireplace is another matching set of doors which lead into a cozy TV room, which includes a long L-shaped sofa, a satellite TV, and VCR [accepts US, British, and French formats]. The TV room grants access to the study, which includes a large desk, fax machines, printer, telephone answering machine, and internet connection. The study also contains a single sofa bed. Adjacent is a small hall, off of which there is a bathroom with a sink, shower, and separate WC. Going back to the main entrance hall, turning right will bring you into an elegant formal dining hall. The long mahogany table with seating from 12 to 16 guests is illuminated by a brass chandelier. An enormous gilded mirror rests above a fireplace mantle carved from blue Belgian marble. In summer, the French doors can be left open to admit fresh breezes from the courtyard. The next room to the right is the breakfast room. Along with glass doors opening onto a pretty terrace and a massive stone fireplace, an aged-pine farm table is the centerpiece of the room, seating up to 14. The final room on the right side of the house is the kitchen, large enough to host cooking classes. A 4 ' x 8 ' granite slab dominates the center of the room, and can be used as either work or dining space. An open fireplace with a rotating spit satisfies all your barbequing needs, and next to it sits a professional grade La Cornue stove with gas burners, a griddle, and two ovens, one of which is electric. Other appliances include two dishwashers, a microwave, and a television. In the pantry there are two extra refrigerators, one for wine. There is also another sink with granite countertops for prep work, a washing machine, and a WC. nFirst Floor: Two staircases lead up to the first floor: the grand staircase from the entry hall [small children are requested not to use this route], and another circular staircase of sturdy wood, with wide steps and a railing, accessed from the hallway near the kitchen. On the landing halfway up the main staircase, there is a guest WC. At the top of the stairs there are four first-floor bedrooms. Bedroom 1 has a canopied king-size bed [200 cm] and an en suite bathroom with two sinks, a bathtub with a handheld showerhead, and a toilet. The room has an ante-chamber which is ideal for a baby bed. Bedroom 2 has a 180 cm king size bed and a separate dressing room. The bathroom has a striking slate tub in the center of the room, two sinks, a toilet, and a bidet. Bedroom 3 has a queen-size [160 cm] sleigh bed and French doors leading to a small balcony overlooking the rose garden. The en suite bathroom is equipped with a fireplace, a dressing room, a marble shower, a toilet, and a bidet. Bedroom 4 is located at the end of the hall and is very private. It has a canopied 200 cm king size bed, a carved marble fireplace, and an ornate ceiling. French doors open onto a small balcony overlooking the rose garden. The en suite bathroom has a tub with fixed showerhead, a sink, and a bidet, plus a separate WC. nSecond Floor: The second floor, which can be closed off from the lower floors, can function as a self-contained apartment. Here there are four more rooms. Bedroom 5 is the honeymoon suite, as it is situated in the tower between the first and second floors and is quite private. It has a canopied 200 cm king size four-poster bed, deep wall-to-wall carpeting, and a large fireplace. Steps lead up into an en suite bathroom with a shower, sink, and a separated WC and bidet. This room enjoys far-reaching views of the countryside in two directions. Bedrooms 6, 7, and 8 each contain two twin beds, for a total of six sleeping spaces. They share one bathroom with sink, toilet, and large walk-in shower. At the end of the hall there is a huge carpeted multipurpose room [approx. 90 m2] with vaulted open beam ceilings resembling the inverted hull of a ship. At the far end there is a fully equipped kitchenette [dishwasher, stove, oven, microwave] while the rest of the room contains a large sofa, armchairs, a coffee table, satellite TV, and VCR. Games include snooker/billiards, darts, table soccer, and a selection of board games. There is also a stereo/CD player and a telephone that can be used to call other rooms within the property. nChapel: With vaulted wood ceilings and stone walls, all illuminated by concealed lights, this chapel is an impeccably renovated jewel of Gothic architecture. Located 40 meters from the chateau, it seats anywhere from 50 to 70 guests on rows of wooden pews and chairs facing the altar. It has excellent acoustics and is suitable for a concert or a private wedding. nOrangery: This handsome stone building has a southward orientation, receiving light all day long. Located along one side of the pool, it is 90 m2 with high ceilings, limestone floors, and exposed stone walls. Here you have everything you need to spend an entire day at the pool without having to return to the chateau. Amenities include a shower, WC, exercise equipment, table tennis, and a kitchen with granite counters, a two-burner stove, microwave oven, and dishwasher. The orangery can be utilized for cocktails, meetings, or even a dance floor. nLaundry Room: Adjacent to the orangery there is a large laundry room with two heavy-duty American washing machines, two dryers, a large refrigerator [with icemaker], ironing facilities, and another refrigerator for drinks. The laundry room also has stainless steel tables, sinks, and a collection of vases for anyone who wants to arrange flowers from the garden. n nThis 15th century restored Chateau is located in a small hamlet within the Loire-Anjou-Touraine national park, 10 minutes from Chinon—,famous as the spot where Jeanne d 'Arc told Charles VII of her vision to lead the French army against the English at Orleans. Referred to as the Garden of France, this area is known for its countless historic Chateaux, fine wines, and agriculture. The ancient cities of Nantes, Angers, and Saumur lie to the west, while Tours and Orleans are to the east. Since the chateau is located on the flat lands between the Loire and Vienne rivers, there are many places to enjoy bike rides or jogging trails away from traffic.
