Description:Our collection of 12 villas are situated just a 10-minute stroll from the sand-dune backed beach of Campomarino, with all the comforts needed for a nice seaside holiday. Each villa has its own entrance, private gated parking, garden and terrace for eating al fresco. Each of the luxury self catering villas has three bedrooms and two shower-rooms. The villas come fully equipped with air-conditioning, linen, towels, TV, iron & iron board, kitchen utensils and washing machine. On arrival, you will find a bottle of local Italian wine on the table – and if you send us a shopping list in advance, we will ensure you have fresh, locally sourced food for your first Italian meal. You can reach the village of Campomarino di Maruggio by flying to either Bari (Palese) or Brindisi (Papola Casale) Airports with less than a 1.5hrs drive. The region of Puglia has 800km of stunning coastline, covering the entire heel of south of Italy. With the beach just around the corner, go-karting, snorkelling and horse-riding – not to mention all those gelaterias – there is something for the whole group.Puglia is the ‘heel of Italy’ – the long peninsula in the south of the country that juts out into the Adriatic and Mediterranean Seas. The region is particularly popular in the summer months of July and August, when temperatures reach 30*C and above. In the quieter months of May, June, September and October, temperatures range between 20-25*C. Famed for its culinary produce – from olive oil to wine and from raw fish to 200 types of pasta – Puglia is known as the garden of Italy. The region is dotted with little white conical buildings called trulli, which were originally used as dry storehouses, but are now converted into dwellings. There are many historic towns to explore, with narrow mazes of streets and piazzas surrounded by Baroque ad Greek architecture. What to find nearby GROCERY SHOPPING: The two nearest supermarkets are just a five minute walk from the villas. For local specialities and delicacies, Maruggio (five minutes away in the car) has a local butcher, a fresh fruit and vegetable shop and bakery. PHARMACY: There is a local pharmacy a ten-minute walk from the villas and another in Maruggio, a slightly longer walk away or accessible by car. BARS AND GELATERIA: There are a few bars within walking distance from the villas – try ‘Il planet’ for excellent cocktails.A ten-minute stroll away from the villas is the beach bar Frutteria Annibale –perfect for a fresh fruit platter, an afternoon drink or a casual evening out. Combining a bar with an ice-cream parlour is a uniquely Italian concept: Panna e Cioccolato , La Meringa and Sandrino are all within walking distance of the villas. Our favourite bar gelateria is Panna e Cioccolato, especially for its ‘aperitivo’: try the refreshing combination of Aperol (a light version of Campari) and cedrata (made from a local citrus fruit called etrog). RESTAURANTS: For a light meal, head to a ‘rosticcerie’. Il Bomber and Rosticceria Longo sell ‘panzerotto’ (pastries filled with tasty tomato sauce and mozzarella) and ‘focaccia’ (delicious local bread topped with onions, olive oil, capers and black olives) and are just a few minutes’ walk from the villas.Le Piccole Ore is a family friendy restaurant favoured by locals. It offers an outside terrace or inside tables and serves traditional Italian fare.La Siesta is a family-run restaurant is known for its delicious traditional food and amazing wood-fired pizza oven in the heart of Sava, about 10km inland from Campomarino.Two of our favourite beachfront restaurants are situated between Campomarino and Torre Oveo. Both Elisir and Posto 9 (10-minutes drive) are relaxing family-friendly, and offer a variety of delicious dishes, from pizza to seafood.Surrounded by acres of olive groves and countryside, the “La 'nchianata Pub can offers delicious local food and a fantastic atmosphere. The restaurant is just a short drive towards Torre Ovo, following signs to Torricella. ACTIVITIES:Wine Tour - Cantine di San Marzano is one of the most modern wine production facilities in the south. The tour of the winery includes tasting, a visit to one of the more ancient vineyards and a potted history of the wine production in the area. During the ‘Cantine Aperte’ event, this winery opens the door over few days during which guided tours, tasting of wines, cultural events, music performances and dance. Diving - The Mare del Sud Diving Centre is 10 min walk from the villas, inside the Campomarino seaport. They organise dives at nearby San Pietro in Bevagna, where you can swim around the 22 white marble sarcophagi dating from AD150-300. Another interesting diving point is the Chidro river, a natural oasis of rare beauty. And to end the experience, they offer you a snack of ‘taralli’ (a pretzel-shaped breadstick) with a glass of wine. Snorkelling / diving: Only 50m off the sandy beach between Casalbate and San Cataldo is an incredible wreck, sunk by the Royal Navy in 1941. You can actually swim from room to room inside it. The turnoff is just beyond Torre Rinalda if you are heading towards San Cataldo. Go-karting - There are two go-karting tracks nearby: one between Torricella and Sava and another at nearby Maruggio, no more than a 15-mis drive. Besides the constant presence of a guardian and housekeeper, who reside in the villa and are always available to help guests, the accommodation has all comforts: swimming pool, telephone, internet connection, independent heating, car park, fine bed linen and towels, and outdoor barbecue. Built on two levels, the ground floor and first floor both have sea-view terraces. A sumptuous and historical staircase connects the ground and first floors and the solarium with its fantastic view, the stone was excavated from the coast near the beach of Marina della Lobra, and the staircase enriched with 18th century mosaics. The facade looks stupendous, especially when illuminated at night in the courtyard with its artistic wrought iron fencing, paving and centuries old olive tree. The windows and balconies give us fragments of history to reflect on: the coat of arms of the Sersale family, and two inscriptions giving testimony to when Joachin Murat, King of Naples, stayed here during the capture of Capri in 1808, one inscription from 1928 and the other from Massa Lubrense town council in 2008 to celebrate the bicentenary of the event.Because of its specific structure, the villa is not suitable for children under 6 years old.GROUND FLOORFrom past to present, beauty and elegance are constant in all environs of the Villa Capri in Massa Lubrense. From the limestone entrance, one enters through the simple and sobre 16th century doorway into a paved stone hall, the room enriched with vases, objets d’arts and antique moulds tastefully chosen to maintain the living memory of this place. To the left one reaches the first hall, adapted for small receptions, for reunions or classy events, it can aso be used as an area to sit back and enjoy some peace and quiet. On entering, one’s glance is immediately captured by Capri, which through the window seems to be a something of a living painting, with its resplendant sea a-sparkle around it.Above the antique fireplace are three objects of singular historical value: the first, particularly fascinating, is the white gun discovered and attributed to Gioacchino Murat, that was left to the owner of the villa, the other two objects, two bricks discovered in the ancient stall, with the names of two horses, Alfano and Ali', who were part of the King of Naple’s cavalcade whilst staying here in Massa Lubrense.The splendid beauty of this landscape completes the hall: from the terrace one can admire the Gulf of Naples and the Sorrentine Peninsula from different angles. From the hall one can reach one of the bedrooms, resplete in period furniture and bathroom. The hall to the right of the doorway is reserved for the staff of the villa. FIRST FLOOR Solemn and enchanting, the first floor of Villa Capri - The abode overlooking Capri, is the heart of this historical building in Massa Lubrense. On this floor one finds the most glorious and spacious terraces of the villa, with a breath-taking view over the entire Gulf of Naples and the Island of Capri.Each room is steeped in history: the three bedrooms, the two comfortable bathrooms, one can alternate between the two very intimate and cosy rooms and three living area’s with period furnishings. All the area’s have windows or balconies which give a sense of being suspended above the sea.The ‘suite’ has been conserved intact and in fact one supposes that this is where Gioacchino Murat slept in 1808. Between these frescoed walls, English Commander Hudson Lowe agreed to surrender the Island of Capri to Murat. On will find the most beautiful and spacious villa terrace on this floor. The kitchen is built using typical glazed ceramics from the 19th century, primarily in azzure blue and decorated with charming motifs typical of the Sorrentine Peninsula. The period wood fireplaces leave an unforgettable sensation of stepping back in time. The kitchen has been adapted to include all modern fittings.TERRACES In this enchanting place there are two terraces, both furnished in wrought-iron tables and chairs where one can sit back and enjoy moments of sublime pleasure.The first is on the ground floor, with access from the hall: its intimate location is especially perfect for moments of relaxation. The second, on the first floor, lies across one end of the building to the other. The large area provides ample space to host open-air events and it is furnished with tables embellished with 19th century with majolica tiles.The solarium, which one accesses via the stone staircase from the first floor, is thoughtfully furnished with sunbeds, showers and towels to provide a perfect place for sunbathing.For the night, appropriately illuminated, is the ideal setting to host receptions, refreshments and of particular fascination.The roof with its two slopes, maintains its original tiles, which have bee restored. The Villa Capri garden is further enriched with paths which provide incredible views of the hills and the village of Annunziata, in particular one can spy the ancient Tower of Toledo which dominates the entrance to Marina della Lobra.The towers one sees along the coast are typical of the area and the Lubrense territory and formed a fortified defensive against the Saracen invasions.A good example of these fortifications is Torre Turbolo, these days called Torre Capece Minutolo, in the piazza of Annunziata, not far from Villa Capri.
