For once again, coming full circle to its late 12th century convent origins, there is an air of protected peace and gentle retreat about this ancient residence. Set in a wildlife reserve in the hills overlooking the Arno valley, Eremo is positioned to enjoy long vistas to rising horizons and close-up glimpses of the shy animals that are part of the Tuscan tapestry. Yet it is the house itself that will be savoured by its guests, and it is to it and to them that the owners have dedicated their efforts. nIn a lengthy labour of love, the owners laid gentle hands on the original structure and layout, the result of which has preserved spacious rooms and features not often found in a Tuscan home. One is seen as soon as you enter the arched door on the eastern facade, for no sooner are you in the house than you can see out of it - into the lovely inner courtyard at the heart of the house. In the living area another delight - a central stone pillar supporting four wide arches under which comfortable sofas and chairs afford the perfect place to recount the day's discoveries. And so it goes throughout the house, everywhere there is something to appreciate. The kitchen areas would please any chef, both the spacious two-stationed professional kitchen as well as the handy kitchen next to the dining room, for they are nicely furnished to give the sense of home, yet equipped with everything necessary to cook for a crowd, including a high-speed dishwasher and a pasta boiler. Off the main kitchen is another living area perfect for younger guests, for with toys, TV and video equipment, a table for eight, an open fireplace and access to a furnished terrace outdoors, it can entertain for many hours running. Beyond the dining room, which seats 16 comfortably, is the only ground floor bedroom, with en-suite shower room and a door to a small, furnished terrace. The last room on this floor is the studio, a restful place to read, play the electronic keyboard, write an overdue postcard or simply marvel at the treasure in the floor, the remnants of a foundation wall that stood 1,000 years ago - a humbling momento. nOn the upper floor there are two additional living areas and seven charming bedrooms, each distinctive in look, but all beautiful places in which to wake up. In all the bedroom suites in this large house, in addition to the beamed ceilings and terracotta flooring, there is a lovely mix of well-selected country antiques, lovely fabrics and the whimsy of ceramics. There are natural hardwood floors throughout the entire home to carry the wonderful beach feeling inside. Description:Experience the sweeping drama of French history firsthand with this magnificent chateau in the Loire Valley. Alternately a place of bloody battlefields and noble residences, Joan of Arc trod here, as did Eleanor of Aquitaine and her son, Richard the Lionhearted. In more recent centuries the area blossomed with opulent chateaux and became a playground for nobility, a renaissance that ended with the Revolution. Perhaps it is this unique combination of tragedy and intense beauty that produces the region 's light, fruity wines. Without a doubt, this breathtaking and historic chateau will capture your imagination and put you right back in the middle of it all. As you stroll the sprawling gardens of this Loire valley chateau, laced with fountains and flowers and pools, you 'll know exactly where you are—,but perhaps not quite when. We recommend that you spend several days exploring the famous nearby historic Loire chateaux, tasting the wines, and spending time at your own chateau soaking up the ambiance. n n[2.5 hectares] Entering this completely walled estate, you will pass through a forty-foot-tall arch, listed as a national monument by the French government. Past the arch, you will enter into an enclosed, totally private estate filled with sweeping lawns, fruit orchards, stands of chestnut, poplar, linden, and pine trees, and flower gardens. The icing on the cake is the rose garden, with elaborate arches, benches, shallow canals, and fountains—,with more than 6,000 roses between the pool and the hedge that borders the front of the property. As it can be illuminated at night, the garden is well suited for larger social functions. A lake has a 7 meter high fountain providing a focal point amongst weeping willows. The fountains and lampposts are reminiscent of 19th century Paris, adding to the old-world ambiance. An outdoor dining terrace, accessed via French doors from the breakfast room, is surrounded by a flower garden and a nearby fountain adds the sound of softly running water. The swimming pool [7m x 15m] is surrounded by a flagstone deck, equipped with lounge chairs, a hammock, and large shade umbrellas. There are also two large barbeques [stored in the adjacent orangery] and an all-weather, tournament-grade tennis court [some raquets available]. n n[600 m2] All buildings on this amazing estate have been fully restored to their original glory and are equipped with modern amenities throughout. nCHATEAU [600 m2] nGround Floor: Enter this chateau to find yourself in an elegant, intimate setting, with twelve foot ceilings, long windows, and walls covered with stretched silk tissue tondu. Large mirrors compliment fireplaces, and chandeliers add an extra touch of grace. Floors are limestone or slate, some with oak inlay. Full central heating warms the chateau, and tapestries ornament the flagstone hallway and main staircase. To the left of the entrance hall is the salon, with comfortable seating and a working fireplace. To the right of the fireplace a set of doors leads into the card room/library, which has access to the eastern terrace and garden. To the left of the fireplace is another matching set of doors which lead into a cozy TV room, which includes a long L-shaped sofa, a satellite TV, and VCR [accepts US, British, and French formats]. The TV room grants access to the study, which includes a large desk, fax machines, printer, telephone answering machine, and internet connection. The study also contains a single sofa bed. Adjacent is a small hall, off of which there is a bathroom with a sink, shower, and separate WC. Going back to the main entrance hall, turning right will bring you into an elegant formal dining hall. The long mahogany table with seating from 12 to 16 guests is illuminated by a brass chandelier. An enormous gilded mirror rests above a fireplace mantle carved from blue Belgian marble. In summer, the French doors can be left open to admit fresh breezes from the courtyard. The next room to the right is the breakfast room. Along with glass doors opening onto a pretty terrace and a massive stone fireplace, an aged-pine farm table is the centerpiece of the room, seating up to 14. The final room on the right side of the house is the kitchen, large enough to host cooking classes. A 4 ' x 8 ' granite slab dominates the center of the room, and can be used as either work or dining space. An open fireplace with a rotating spit satisfies all your barbequing needs, and next to it sits a professional grade La Cornue stove with gas burners, a griddle, and two ovens, one of which is electric. Other appliances include two dishwashers, a microwave, and a television. In the pantry there are two extra refrigerators, one for wine. There is also another sink with granite countertops for prep work, a washing machine, and a WC. nFirst Floor: Two staircases lead up to the first floor: the grand staircase from the entry hall [small children are requested not to use this route], and another circular staircase of sturdy wood, with wide steps and a railing, accessed from the hallway near the kitchen. On the landing halfway up the main staircase, there is a guest WC. At the top of the stairs there are four first-floor bedrooms. Bedroom 1 has a canopied king-size bed [200 cm] and an en suite bathroom with two sinks, a bathtub with a handheld showerhead, and a toilet. The room has an ante-chamber which is ideal for a baby bed. Bedroom 2 has a 180 cm king size bed and a separate dressing room. The bathroom has a striking slate tub in the center of the room, two sinks, a toilet, and a bidet. Bedroom 3 has a queen-size [160 cm] sleigh bed and French doors leading to a small balcony overlooking the rose garden. The en suite bathroom is equipped with a fireplace, a dressing room, a marble shower, a toilet, and a bidet. Bedroom 4 is located at the end of the hall and is very private. It has a canopied 200 cm king size bed, a carved marble fireplace, and an ornate ceiling. French doors open onto a small balcony overlooking the rose garden. The en suite bathroom has a tub with fixed showerhead, a sink, and a bidet, plus a separate WC. nSecond Floor: The second floor, which can be closed off from the lower floors, can function as a self-contained apartment. Here there are four more rooms. Bedroom 5 is the honeymoon suite, as it is situated in the tower between the first and second floors and is quite private. It has a canopied 200 cm king size four-poster bed, deep wall-to-wall carpeting, and a large fireplace. Steps lead up into an en suite bathroom with a shower, sink, and a separated WC and bidet. This room enjoys far-reaching views of the countryside in two directions. Bedrooms 6, 7, and 8 each contain two twin beds, for a total of six sleeping spaces. They share one bathroom with sink, toilet, and large walk-in shower. At the end of the hall there is a huge carpeted multipurpose room [approx. 90 m2] with vaulted open beam ceilings resembling the inverted hull of a ship. At the far end there is a fully equipped kitchenette [dishwasher, stove, oven, microwave] while the rest of the room contains a large sofa, armchairs, a coffee table, satellite TV, and VCR. Games include snooker/billiards, darts, table soccer, and a selection of board games. There is also a stereo/CD player and a telephone that can be used to call other rooms within the property. nChapel: With vaulted wood ceilings and stone walls, all illuminated by concealed lights, this chapel is an impeccably renovated jewel of Gothic architecture. Located 40 meters from the chateau, it seats anywhere from 50 to 70 guests on rows of wooden pews and chairs facing the altar. It has excellent acoustics and is suitable for a concert or a private wedding. nOrangery: This handsome stone building has a southward orientation, receiving light all day long. Located along one side of the pool, it is 90 m2 with high ceilings, limestone floors, and exposed stone walls. Here you have everything you need to spend an entire day at the pool without having to return to the chateau. Amenities include a shower, WC, exercise equipment, table tennis, and a kitchen with granite counters, a two-burner stove, microwave oven, and dishwasher. Description:We have a selection of lovely properties available for holiday rental. All of the properties are located in the historic Abbey town of Sherborne near the Somerset/Dorset border. n nWe have two apartments which are both located in Printers Court, a period building located on the main shopping street running through Sherborne. As the name might suggest, the building used to be a printing press and has a beautiful secluded rear garden and courtyard which guests are welcome to use. n nFlat 2 sleeps four and has a unique and pleasing layout split over two floors with an internal staircase. The two bedrooms (one double, one twin) and bathroom are located on the first floor. Upstairs is an open plan living/dining room with a shaker-style kitchen. There are very high vaulted ceilings with original wooden beams and frames. Views from here are beautiful - looking out over the red rooftops of the historic district to the famous Abbey. The twin bedroom has zip-link beds which can be set up as two singles or as a king-size bed. n nFlat 3 is a very spacious apartment with floor to ceiling period windows and a private terrace balcony that runs the entire length of the building. A perfect spot to sit and enjoy breakfast while you watch the comings and goings in the square below. The apartment consists of two bedrooms (one with a four-poster king-size bed, one twin with two single beds), a bathroom, kitchen and extremely large living/dining room. The apartment sleeps 6 using the sofa bed in the living room and there is room for air mattresses on the floor. n n52 Cheap Street is a luxurious one bedroom apartment with a large roof terrace. There is a comfortable SuperKing-sized bed in the master bedroom and a double air mattress which can be set up in the living room. n n68a Cheap Street is another split-level apartment with two bedrooms (one with a king-size bed the second with two singles and a day bed. It can comfortably accommodate 5 people in the beds but there is also a folding bed which can be set up to accommodate a 6th person if necessary. This property benefits from a charming roof terrace where there is a selection of plants and herbs as well as an outdoor eating area. n nOur fifth property is also located near the centre of Sherborne only a few minutes walk from the Abbey and main shopping street. It is a lovely terraced cottage that has recently been refurbished. The downstairs consists of a living/dining room with shaker style kitchen. Upstairs there is a bathroom, a bedroom with bunk beds and a double bedroom. The attic space has been converted into a mezzanine looking over the double bedroom. With a built-in folding desk it is perfect as an office or reading room but if needed a camp-bed can be placed up there for another person to sleep. There are lovely views from the mezzanine over to the abbey. n nDuring busy times of the year we also have a selection of other properties which we rent out on a temporary basis. The property is situated near to the town of Soufriere with its unique attractions, such as the Diamond Waterfall, the Mineral Baths and the drive in volcano. nYou enter the main 10,000 square foot house through French Colonial double doors into a marble floored hallway with a dramatic outlook to the sea and a grand double staircase soaring up to the lofty ceilings . The hallway leads into a spacious sitting room and a separate formal dining room with seating for 12 person – both rooms are surrounded on two sides by patios facing the sea and the towering Pitons. On the patio is an open bar and two outside dining areas which are cooled with ceiling fans. nThere is a large, well equipped kitchen and adjacent laundry room. The state of the art kitchen has marble counter tops and modern appliances, including a coffee machine, a cappuccino machine, deep pan fryer, juicer, blender, dishwasher, ice machine and two large fridges. nThe house boasts eleven bedrooms – all of which have both ceiling fans and air conditioning. nUpstairs there is a generous master bedroom with a king bed n(180cm x 200cm) and a separate sitting area, which opens onto a spacious balcony overlooking the garden and out to sea. There is also a large walk in closet and an ensuite bathroom – consisting of his and hers rain showers, tub and his and her toilets. A separate Jacuzzi pool completes this bathroom. nBedrooms 2, 3 and 4 all have a king beds (180cm x 200cm) and an ensuite bathroom with both a shower and a tub. nBedrooms 5 and 6 share a bathroom.
