Description:Welcome to Kona Paradise! Private, quiet, ocean-view studio apartment downstairs of a single family home in quiet rural subdivision. Private entrance via side staircase. Two minutes to premier pebble beach with easy access to outstanding snorkeling. Clean, simple, comfortable room with picnic table, your own private patio. Separate and lockable from the main house. This is a very unique area. The dramatic, steep slopes of Mauna Loa in South Kona create 180-degree panoramic views, affording us clear views all the way to Kailua town, 25 miles to the north and to Milol‘'i, 15 miles to the south. Clear horizon lines are 35 miles straight out to sea. We can see (and hear) the raucous humpback whales from here nearly every night in the winter season, (November through April). Cool elevation of about 750 feet..Ocean breezes keep us naturally comfortable. This is a setting quite off the beaten track so if you are looking to walk to nightlife or Starbux, this is not the place. If you want to see stars and whales and hear the surf, that's more like us. It's not the Mauna Lani but we have other charms here. :) The beach below is a pebble beach cove with protected bay. Snorkeling along the finger reefs here is EXCELLENT. Our beach is a TRUE best-kept secret. Shore divers love this area, also known for its great diving. (The Kona Aggressor dive charter parks just to the north of our bay.) In the winter we do often receive raucous northwest swells, so sometimes the beach is not safe for swimming in winter. (But when this happens, usually ALL Kona leeward beaches experience dangerous conditions.) The beach is about two minutes away via a crazy steep road. You can walk it-- but driving is recommended. We are coqui-frog free, which means you will NOT hear the night calls of these shrieking pests that have invaded much of the island, especially in rural locations. At the moment, I have no neighbors on either side of us, so it is fairly dead quiet at night. What you might hear at night: Whales. And surf. That's about it. :) Rental includes basic cookware, dishes, glasses, kitchen utensils, toaster, microwave, rice cooker/steamer, coffeemaker, teapot, free advice -) and linens. The gas BBQ is a bit on the aged side but it works. Free use of snorkeling equipment, beach cooler they stop right at the top of our hill a couple of times a day. But please note... having a car for mobility's and convenience sake is DEFINITELY recommended. ( In other words, you really MUST have a car.) I also recommend making an advanced car rental booking don't take a chance! Kona can sometimes become sold out of rental cars during the busy seasons. Apartment sleeps two (2) guests max. We have solar hot water and rainwater catchment here. No tobacco smoking on the property (or smoking of any kind inside.) The site won't let me change the charge per additional guest number, but I can't take more than two. If the guests wish to sleep separately, there is a foldout futon and extra bedding provided. My place is great for a single or couple who want a nicely located spot near the beach but seek a quiet retreat well away from the bustle of Kailua town. Winter rates (November through April) are higher. Minimum three days at this rate. If you do want less than that, write and we'll discuss. I do have monthly rates. There is a $75 cleaning fee and $150 refundable security deposit required. The security deposit is just an imprint--it is not charged unless necessary after check out. Both are processed automatically through the AirBnB system. Absolutely no smoking, inside or out, is allowed. I can often take you last minute, so please enquire. Write with questions, Mahalo! and e komo mai!... more info >>

Description:Aloha! I am the owner of this 325 sq ft studio condo in downtown Kona. I bought the studio in 2004 when I was an Ironman athlete and trained 3 months out of the year on the Big Island and I raced several Ironman World Championships in Kona. I later became a pure cyclist and today I still train on the Big Island several times a year. Kona is my home away from home and is a pretty special place for me and it is fantastic to share a part of Hawaii with so many travelers. The condo complex is a unique property that really has old Hawaii flavor and it is in downtown Kona on Alii Drive. There are 100 units in the complex in (6) 3-story buildings and all condos are individually owned. The best part of the property is its grounds- boasting of dozens of native plants and soon to be a small botanical garden- it is pretty special. Most owners take great pride in their small slice of Hawaii because they live on site part of the year and most of the owners keep the property maintained very well for ourselves and guests. I have rented out my condo since 2004 and have enjoyed sharing Kona with many like- minded travelers. Here is what you get: A small studio condo in the heart of downtown Kailua-Kona. The condo sits off of Alii Drive between Lava Java and Bubba Gumps. The property has a pool, jacuzzi, BBQ and beautiful grounds that represent the best of Hawaii. Unit has a small kitchenette that includes a coffee maker, small refridgerator and microwave and very basic eating utensils- plates, bowls, glasses, mugs, forks. Queen bed sleeps 2, there is a sofa in case you don't want to share. Bathroom has a shower. Unit also has a small lanai that overlooks the pool and is a lovely place for some Kona coffee or island drinks. Quiet unit on top floor in the middle so little or no foot traffic (3rd floor/walk up). The unit is kept clean, and all furnishings are Hawaiian contemporary and have much aloha. Internet available on site for a fee (I think $3) at front desk and public coin operated washer dryer on site. Restaurants, bars, and small beach just outside of your doorstep along with the weekly Farmer's Market. On-site FREE parking available although space may be limited after 6 PM so grab your spot early. Airport shuttle is approximately $28 for 2 people one way if you use speedi-shuttle- an make sure you pre-book- they don't take walk ups! Taxi is about $38 one way from the airport. Personally I keep the condo with very basic amenities so not to over complicate things and it has exactly what you need to make a great trip comfortable. I have a wonderful property manager who lives in the complex who is there to help out if anything needs a fix. I visit the condo at least twice a year to paint and give her a good scrub between bike rides. Some things in the condo are new and some things are original to the unit and it all works great. Although the condo is not overly fancy, it is a lovely clean little gem and a great landing spot to visit downtown Kona, the surrounding beaches, and even a visit to the volcano- a must visit in my humble opinion. Cleaning fees are a one time fee of $27 and the condo is cleaned ONLY at departure. If you have a daily need, you need to let me know an we'll see what we can arrange at your expense. Finally, because I cannot be there year round I do depend on my guests to be my eyes and I do ask that guests let me know if something needs fixing or changing and I DO listen and appreciate the feedback. Because my property manager is on site, we can fix things immediately so as long as I know, I can fix. I hope to meet you through Airbnb if you choose my place but either way enjoy Kona and the Big I and its beaches, surf, history...it is a spectacular island!... more info >>
