FROM THE GUEST BOOK: Date of stay: 6-11 November 2010 Carlo, Maria, Riccard My husband and I had a great time. We met here to re-unite since he is in Afghanistan for a year. We hadn’t seen each other for 7 months! Your studio was perfect! We enjoyed having breakfast on the terrace. We enjoyed walking around Casteldaccia as the locals do. We went to Monreale and the Abby was amazing Today we are heading towards Taormina so we will be stopping at Cefalu` and also be going to Mt. Etna which I have heard are amazing. Thank you so much for everything. Alessandra was also very nice and helpful. Arrivederci, Guest: Yara and Vincent from Coronado, California, USA Date of stay: 19-30 September 2010 Dear Maria and Riccardo. Thank you for allowing us to share with you a little of an Italian life style. Sorry for the unscheduled earlier arrival! We just didn’t think and appreciated your effort to fit us in. Thank you, Riccardo, for the simple but tasty pasta dish you made for our lunch, on our arrival. Our only problem in the whole stay was the initial ‘fishy fridge’ but thanks to Riccardo that was quickly fixed! There have been many pleasures about our stay in your rooftop apartment and town, one of the best things being the very comfortable bed. The best in a month stay in Sicily and out of 7 places we stayed at! We’ve also enjoyed the chats we’ve had with you both – entertaining and informative. We wish you both all the best for all you future adventures. Being ‘fellow travelers’ we know you will continue to explore, laugh, chat, eat and drink wherever life takes you. Maria, we are both so lucky to have great men in our lives with the added bonus of them both being great cooks – powerful (except for our waist lines!!!). All the best from Guests: Sybil and John from Inverlock, Victoria, Australia Date of stay: 22-29 June 2010 Maria and Riccardo, You have been such fantastic hosts, in fact the best. You have made us feel most welcome and comfortable in the attic. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and we have enjoyed every minute of our explorations. Your home and garden are wonderful and I am sure when the alterations are completed will be perfect. This has been a wonderful holiday for us both, and yourselves and the people we have met on our journeys have made it so. We wish you and your family long life, health and happiness. Guests: Ray and Liz from Little Haywood, Stafford, UK Date of stay: 26 September - 2 October 2009 We loved the ‘attico’ and spent every morning with coffee and evenings with wine on one of the two terraces overlooking the mountains and your garden. We enjoyed the walk up and down the spiral steps with the jasmine brushing our clothes and the smell lingering throughout the day. Segesta was fantastic advice from you and Riccardo, you were instrumental in ‘planning’ our first trip into Palermo, a truly energetic ‘città’, Monreale, Porticello, Solunto, Castel di Tusa, Segesta, and, of course, Casteldaccia were among our favorite for un-crowded and quiet get-a-ways. Hiking ‘La Rocca’ (in Cefalu`), Solunto and wandering the ‘vias’ of Palermo made our daily visit to the fruit stand and ‘Vino e Olio’ even better! We made two new friends of the owners of the fruit and wine store. They were both so nice and fun! M and R: we loved seeing you each day and were sad when you left for Canada. We hope our paths cross again – here, the USA or Canada! P.S. Love the ’63 Bug. Guests: Catherine and Tina from Bothell, Washington Detroit Lakes, Minnesota Date of stay: 16-23 September 09 Dear Maria and Riccardo, We have had a wonderful first week in Sicilia. We love the island, love Casteldaccia, love the attico and you. I am so glad I switched my rental from Cefalu` to Casteldaccia!! While Cefalu` is beautiful and a great day trip, we loved so much being here for the week. As great as our ‘day’ trips were, nothing was better than parking the car out front and walking up here to our oasis on the terrace. I strongly recommend future travelers stay here!! We hope our next two weeks will be this great. Guests: Megan, Will from Wilmington, North Carolina, USA Date of stay: 18-27 August 2009 We have had a wonderful time here in Casteldaccia, and have absolutely loved staying here in the ‘attico’. Your apartment is lovely – a real home away from home, and your paintings, Maria, are superb! We have enjoyed the ‘Festa di San Giuseppe’, and the kids loved going around the stalls and seeing the lights. The parade and angels were something we all felt privileged to have been part of. And the fireworks on the last night well we had the best seat in the house out on the terrace. Thank you for the prickly pears, tomatoes and figs from the garden – they are lovely. For other guests – the bread and pastries at ‘La Fornarella’ are superb and they do great pizza for evenings. We are all sad to be leaving – but we know we will be back for sure. To Maria and Riccardo, thank you for a Fantastic Holiday! Guests: Paul, Emma, Sharnai and Ben – two adult guests and two children from Tipton, West Midlands, UK Date of stay: 18-27 August 2009 Just a quick note to thank you for a great stay in Casteldaccia – we are really missing the place!! Thank you so much for sorting out our taxi for the day we left – very much appreciated. We all agree it vas the best holiday we have been on – I for one have never relaxed quite as much as I did in Casteldaccia! Your studio (or attico) is a lovely, homely place to stay – we felt right at home there from day one! So much so, that Emma and myself are trying to organize a return trip later this year – maybe in Oct/Nov for a short break. Thank you for the pottery – it’s lovely, and we have shown to everyone that has visited us since our return. Thanks again. Ciao! (from email, 30 August 2009 Guests: Paul, Emma, Sharnai and Ben – two adult guests and two children from Tipton, West Midlands, UK Date of stay: 1-8 August 2009 Dear Maria, Riccardo and all who read this! Our stay in the wonderful ‘attico’ has been fantastic. Hosted by the warm, friendly and special Maria and Riccardo, we shall really miss them both. Our stay has included beaches at Capo San Vito, Casteldaccia and Scopello. Getting tanned and drinking long drinks make it all very relaxing. Evenings include eating out at many of the lovely pizza places or just staring at the moon from the terrace (with a glass of vine of course). We love the square at Casteldaccia that hosts the ‘old men’ every night. Although our Italian is limited it seems obvious they are putting the world right. Not so relaxing is the driving experience! We have covered many miles on our stay and to be alive is a small miracle. Please tell me, Italians really do have to take a driving test? A general rule of thumbs seems to be who gets to a junction first goes first. Forget the rules for the motorway/freeway – none apply. We shall really miss Casteldaccia, Sicily, the people, the sun and the sea. But we shall be back. Knowing this makes leaving a bit easier. Ciao! Paul and Lorraine, Hornchurch, Essex, UK Date of stay: 25 June - 4 July 2009 Dear Maria, Riccardo, Carlo and Pietro, We had a wonderful time here in Casteldaccia, a little town that is so simpatico. The studio is a very nice place where to stay. Everything was perfect! We enjoyed particularly the gelato at the piazza, the beach of Cefalu`, the visit of Corvo Winery and, of course, the ricotta, so fresh, from the farm. It is a wonderful country for food, everything is fresh and the merchants are very nice. We want to thank you all for your kindness. We will recommend your place for sure. Guests: Luc, Lynda, Maxime-Louis, Jasmine – 2 adult guests and 2 children from Prevost, Quebec, Canada Date of stay: 10-17 November 2008 Having read everyone’s comments about Maria and Riccardo, I just wish we had had the chance to meet them. We’ve had a super week here (having already spent the first week of our holiday near Siracusa). We’ve loved being in this little flat – absolutely every detail has been thought of. It was so nice to be able to do all our shopping locally on foot – mostly at the Spar Supermarket! We also liked the fact that this is not at all a touristy place – so we really felt as if we were seeing Sicilian life. We were very lucky with the weather – only one wet day. And we used the terrace a lot even though it’s November. Looking back thorough this book we found that a couple living in our road in Ramsgate, Kent have been here! Guests: Anna, Geoffrey from Ramsgate, Kent, England Date of stay: 10-17 November 2008 I just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our stay in your apartment in Casteldaccia. We thought it was absolutely lovely and we had a great time. You really have made it so comfortable and you have thought of absolutely everything your guests could possibly want. The P. family downstairs were delightful and between us we figured out how to find train tickets to Palermo! The funny thing was that when I read all through your guest book I found that neighbours of ours here, who only live a few houses along our road, have also stayed in the apartment! Having read all about your family we just wish we’d had the chance to meet you! With best wishes, Anna (from email, 25 Nov 2008) Guests: Anna, Geoffrey from Ramsgate, Kent, England Date of stay: 22 September – 3 October 2008 Dear Maria and Riccardo, We have had a lovely holiday. What beautiful historical sites and such lovely food and wine! Guests: Tessa and John from East Tilbury, Essex, UK Date of stay: 31 August – 5 September 2008 Dear Maria and Riccardo Thank you for your hospitality. We have enjoyed our time here in great Sicily. This cozy studio apartment – would rather call it a penthouse – beats the hell out of any hotel. Take care! Grazie! Kiitos! Thank you! Guests: Pekka and Petri from Helsinki, Finland Date of stay: 23-30 August 2008 Dear Maria and Riccardo, We have enjoyed our ‘Sicilian’ experience. We arrived very tired from the UK after an early morning flight to a very hot and busy Casteldaccia. Little we knew there was a weekend festival on for St Joseph. Over that weekend we saw locals parading in the streets, bands and fireworks, a lovely memory to tell everyone at home. During the following days we (being beach people and sun lovers) went in search of the sea. We have found over the years to follow the locals to the best places. So wherever we saw a line of parallel cars we parked also and found some spectacular coves which were very clean in ‘Cefalu`. We adored Cefalu`, the cobble streets, churches and shops are quite unique, well worth the long challenging climb up the mountain (spectacular)! During our visit to ‘Monte Etna’ we were so high up we walked among the clouds. Truly amazing. We have covered some 1,500 Km visiting N.S.E.W. of the island. However it was always lovely to return to the terrace of an evening in Casteldaccia to eat, drink and talk over our day. We say Sicilian drive must be the best in the world, totally fearsome. Thank you both and kind regards. Guests: Stephanie, Chris from Herne Bay, Kent, UK Date of stay: 8-14 August 2008 Riccardo and Maria We arrived in Sicily a bit worst for wear and convinced this was another boring holiday. With the combination of your beautiful apartment, an absolutely amazing beach and with a license to grill, as each day went by we became a bit more Sicilian and grew quite attached. As a family rule, we never visit the same place twice so we see more of the world, but simply put, we’re already planning our trip back. Thank you for all your help. Kind regards from us all Guests: Genta, Valdet and Sue from London, UK Date of stay: 25 July – 8 August 2008 Thank you so much for your hospitality and kindness. You made our stay in Sicily very enjoyable by making us feel at home and sharing your beautiful apartment with us. A special thanks to Riccardo for the tour of Casteldaccia and all the help he gave us. A true Sicilian if we ever meet one. Our love from London Guests: Jona, Kleo, Veton Arjeta, two adults and 2 children from London, UK Date of stay: 17-24 May 2008 Dear Maria and family – Thank you for opening your beautiful home to us. The gardens are spectacular and the unit was very comfortable. We especially loved the terraces with the spectacular views – a nice place for an evening Limoncello! After spending a hectic week on an organized bus tour, it was so pleasant to really relax and see the non-tourist Sicily of Casteldaccia. The people here are so friendly and helpful! And this island is so fascinating, from Mt Etna to Erice (my two favorite places) everything was unusual, different and fun! Thanks again – Guests: Marilynn, Bill from Moorpark, California, USA Date of stay: 7-11 April 2008 We love this apartment. It’s very cozy and arty! The terrace is brilliant and we cooked every evening and ate out there! Good mountain view too We enjoyed trips by train to Cefalu` and Palermo. Monreale was a nice town too! Katie, Catherine, Lisa and Anna from Peteroburg, UK Date of stay: 31 March - 5 April 2008 The studio apartment is delightful, everything one can possibly want! The view of the mountains from the terrace is spectacular. If you can, visit Monreale, which is a gem, and especially the cloister. Go to Palermo by train, which is very convenient, and don’t miss the ‘Martorana’ and ‘Chiesa Maggione’. Unfortunately the Palatina Chapel was closed for restoration. Cefalu` is the prettiest of the seaside towns with a Cathedral with Bizantine mosaics, which are quite fascinating. An afternoon drive into the mountains to Ciminna provides spectacular views and wonderful wild flowers in the spring. A day drive to Segesta to see the best surviving Doric temple of the ancient world, set on a mountainside covered in wild flowers in un-spoilt countryside is a trip not to be missed. Guests: Joan and Malyn from Hampshire, UK Date of stay: 17-22 March 2008 Dear Maria, Carlo and Alessandra. Grazie! I have to begin by saying ‘Thank you’ because this has been the best birthday I ever had. I came to experience Italy for my birthday with my wonderful boyfriend. Daniel. We thoroughly enjoyed immersing ourselves in Italian culture as ‘locals’ in Casteldaccia. Daniel made me a delicious birthday dinner with Tomasello pasta (we usually make our pasta from scratch at home) and I ate gelato every day from ‘Il Castello’ on the Piazza Matrice. I collect all things with palm trees and it was truly a dream come true to have my very own palm tree in the courtyard to look at amid the view. The lanai has been our favorite place with the benches at Piazza Matrice a close second. I took many pictures and plan to show everyone in Menphis our beautiful Italian hideaway! To visitors: make use of the Supermercato instead of planning to eat out. Grazie! Ciao! Guests: Cheryl and Daniel from Memphis, Tennessee, USA Date of stay: 28 September - 1 October 2007 Dave has always dreamed of visiting Italy, especially Sicily, to see where his family came from, and being able to meet his relatives has been a real treat! We cannot have imagined more beautiful people and exceptional hospitality. Thank you so much and please visit us in Utah – in snow or desert! (by Susan) Riccardo and Maria – Thank you so much for your hospitality! We love your town of Casteldaccia as the wonders of Sicily. We will be back and spend some more time here exploring all there is to explore. We scheduled way too little time to be here at this time – but it was great to see you, Robert, Armando and all! Will stay in touch! Grazie! (by Dave) Guests: Dave and Susan from Utah, USA Date of stay:15-29 September 2007 After a fairly uneventful flight we saucezed ourselves into a crowded (overcrowded) minibus and picked up the hire car. Drove through Palermo and arrived at Maria and Riccardo’s just before midnight. I’m pleased to say it was worth it! Maria and Riccardo are lovely people and Sicily is beautiful (although the drive to the best beaches was some way and the beaches were not always clean). People are friendly and the roads are good. Mount Etna was FANTASTIC! (you must go) but make sure you go with a guide (we had Giuseppe who was great). It is easy to get lost on a mountain, believe me! Everything was as we expected and the weather was kind to us (sunny everyday but two). It is worth coming to Maria’s and Ricardo’s because they are both such nice, generous people. Guests: Geoff and Frances from Hethersett, Norwich Norfolk, UK Simon Siniora Date of stay: 22-28 August 2007 Dear Maria and Riccardo, We have enjoyed our stay to the point where Loures started calling Casteldaccia home. We thank you so much for the good hospitality and a beautiful house. We surely have loved Sicily as we thought and will definitely would come back. Thank you and hope to see you soon Love Simon, Maysa and Loures – two adult guests and one child from Jerusalem via Israel Nicolas Duban Date of stay:12-19 August 2007 Dear Maria and Riccardo We really enjoyed our stay in Sicily and especially in your flat. We spent such good holidays! Many thanks for your help! Hope to come back soon to see the rest of the island. Merci et ā, bientō,t! Nicolas and Elodie from Auxerre, France... more info >>
