St. Tropez and Monaco may be glamorous and international, Porto Cervo and Portofino may be international and glamorous, Sydney may have its fantastic opera house and harbour, Newport, Rhone Island has even had its day, and lets's not forget the Caribbean and its champagne sailing, but yacht racing was born here, in the form of the original America's Cup in 1851! Today, sailing is a major attraction for visitors to the Isle of Wight, with the highlight of the season being Cowes Week. However, thoughout the summer, numerous regattas take place every weekend and fill the town during the summer months. However, sailing is not all that Cowes has to offer. It is currently home to a number of unique craft boutiques, a handful of mainstream shops, a bakery, speciality wine shop, old fashioned sweet shops, a health food store, fishmonger, traditional butcher, and of course the obligatory sailing chandleries and clothing shops. Oh, and lets not forget more than a handful of good old reliable British pubs. As for other outdoor pursuits, the Isle of Wight pretty much has it all, from kitesurfing to walking, golf to shooting, horse riding to cycling. History... Welcome to Osborne Court, Cowes, Isle of Wight, once home to the Women's Royal Naval Service, popularly known as the Wrens. The Wrens division once included cooks, clerks, wireless telegraphists, radar plotters, weapons analysts, range assessors, electricians and air mechanics. In other words, some talented, driven, intellectual women. This female only branch of the Royal Navy was formed during the First World War in 1917, and by the end of the war had 5,500 members, 500 of them officers. The division was disbanded in 1919, only to be revived in 1939 at the beginning of the Second World War. At this time the Wrens possessed an expanded list of allowable activities, including the flying transport planes in conjunction with the WRAF. At its peak in 1944 there were approximately 75,000 women in the Wrens, approximately 60 of whose number resided in Osborne Court. Today, Osborne Court houses the same 60 apartments, now all privately owned. The entrance hall and restaurant at ground floor are particularly reminiscent of the 1930's era in which the building was constructed. Overlooking the Solent, and the entrance to the River Medina, Osborne Court is a beautiful, historic and central place to stay whilst on the Isle of Wight.... more info >>

Description:Well, hello there... nWhen Richard Curtis sent Julia Roberts to find romance in London, it had to be Notting Hill. So if youe28099re looking for something a bit English, a bit sexy, and awfully charming, then do consider Dunworth Mews... ite28099s definitely got the looks and the personality. And with secure entry, two large double bedrooms, a luxury kitchen, and a location to die for, the assets arene28099t half bad, either. nDo you come here often? nNot so long ago, this particular corner of London was fields of sheep not fashionable restaurants. As the face of the beautiful grandmother clock puts it, e2809ctempus fugite2809d. Over time, the fields were fenced in by grand estates, the sheep replaced by horses. Fast forward further, and the stable blocks became mews homes, and the horses Porsches. nDespite such humble beginnings, Londone28099s mews are today anything but down-at-heel. This is where the Citye28099s most affluent boys and girls come to feel the cobbles beneath the leather soles of their dress shoes. nAnd what do you do? nOur host is a City bachelor whoe28099s lost his heart to... well, not a Hollywood A Lister, in fact, but a beagle. The dog wone28099t be there for your stay, although his picture will. Our host is a true Brit, with a fascinating past. His grandparents were Empire builders in the twenties, and some of Dunworthe28099s furniture came home with them by way of souvenir. nQuaint on the outside, modern on the inside, Dunworth Mews is equipped with a range of features that would have Black Beauty choking on her oats. Two double king size beds, covered with crisp five star linen, two bathrooms, one en suite, one with walk in shower, a plasma TV, a games consolee280a6 And done28099t forget to shut the gate behind you e28093 the hoste28099s house is in a secure development. Dunworth Mews will have you champing at the bit. nCome up for a coffee? nDunworth is the archetypical mews, with house fronts like these nOut beyond the gates, Notting Hill is just glorious. Whether you want pedal pushers or prosciutto, this is the place to find it. Vintage Pucci, an art deco paperweight, Clarrice Cliff or a bowler hat, funky Portobello Road market awaits. Then refuel in an independent cafe or deli, and take an ice cream cone over to the green calm of Holland Park while you contemplate how to spend the evening ahead. After all, Central London is less than half an hour away. nAnd if you happen to need a guidebook, well, theree28099s a certain travel bookshop just around the corner... nNo-quibble cool-off period. Description:Sweet like chocolate nLondon is a world city with an urban edge. The sounds, the lights, the busy streetse280a6 ite28099s exhilarating. But at the end of the day, youe28099ll be yearning for the soothing caress of a home thate28099s as calming as it is gentle. nStep forward Westwick Gardens, a spacious retreat from the rough and tumble outside. With interiors mixed and matched from the modern and the antique, and a colour palette thate28099s reminiscent of a desert trolly, youe28099ll feel utterly cosseted. And with one of Europee28099s largest shopping centres just round the corner, wee28099re sure that youe28099ll soon be putting your recharged batteries to very good use. nGentle soul nYour young hostess works for a much-loved charity. When shee28099s not fundraising, shee28099s often to be found out in the countryside, indulging her love of horse riding. Shee28099s a spontaneous soul, apt to throw a dinner party - or repaint her sitting room e28093 at a momente28099s notice! nTactile tactic nThe sitting room of Westwick Gardens is airy, the tall windows spilling their sunlight down onto honeyed wood floors, enticingly soft furniture, and an original fireplace that twinkles with fairy lights. Head through to the south-facing dining room, where the table seats six, or next door to the compact kitchen, with its balcony overlooking the garden. You can access your outdoor space via a trip down the delicately wrought spiral staircase, or from the mocha-coloured guest double bedroom downstairs, with its framed comic book strips and retro radio. nThe master bedroome28099s pale and pretty, with original shutters and a beautiful floral headboard. But ite28099s the bathroom thate28099s the star of the show. Pull the tasselled cord to light up a fabulously feminine space, shaded in dusky lilac, with an intoxicatingly adorable antique mirror. Open up your bundle of White Company toiletries and retire to the tub for a well-deserved soak. nRough with the smooth nYour first port of call simply has to be Westfield. The second largest shopping centre in Europe, youe28099ve shops to suit every taste and budget, all within a handful of minutes from your front door. There are oodles of bars and restaurants, too, and even a cinema, so if the rain does fall, your spirits needne28099t follow. Youe28099ve all sorts of local eateries and pubs to explore, and Shepherde28099s Bush is tantalisingly close to the snazzy nightlife of Notting Hill. Or hop on the tube and zip into town, youe28099ll be there in less than twenty minutes. nNo-quibble cool-off period.
