Description:This cottage is the ideal holiday venue for a couple who want to visit London but still feel as if they are in a rural environment. This beautiful house has an idyllic location on the banks of the Thames, with Bushy Park just across the road. So there are gorgeous views of the Thames flowing by and breathtaking views of the sunsets over the river. The many walkers, cyclists and dogs across the river create constantly changing Lowry-esque images. The balcony is a fabulous place to relax, have a glass of wine or a meal and watch the boats, the swans and the rowers gliding past. There are two comfortable sunloungers (with memory foam cushions!) for total relaxation. The ground floor hall has French oak floorboards with modern wool rugs. The bedroom overlooks the garden and is designed in a stone and purple scheme. The brand new bed is 180cm wide (superking size) and has beautiful linen from The White Company in 600 thread count Egyptian cotton. There is a small front garden which has only been planted since May 2010. Many plants are fragrant: lavender, hesperis, roses, lilies and skimmia. I am currently working on the vertical aspect by using lots of clematis. Walk through the secret garden gate to the river towpath. Upstairs is an open plan living area consisting of a kitchen, two seating areas, a balcony and a dining area. There is a wonderful sense of space, flooded with light, as all the doors and windows face south. You can get cosy on the sofa and watch the river from here in the winter. No need to venture out onto the balcony! At the back of the hall and up a couple of steps is a beautifully tiled shower room with a shower large enough for two. The well-equipped kitchen faces south-east so it's generally sunny and bright. KITCHEN Dishwasher Washing machine Gas hob Electric fan oven Smeg fridge Selection of teas and coffee Oils, vinegars, herbs etc Home-made muesli All cleaning materials, dishwasher powder etc Eclectic collection of china, cutlery and glassware LIVING AREAS Wireless broadband Atmospheric lighting including fairy lights Digital radio, CD & iPod connections Freesat television Indoor / outdoor thermometer Cosy throws Extensive collection of gardening and cookery books plus novels Squashy white sofas Stylish decor Candles Electric fan Houseplants and/or flowers BALCONY Two sunloungers Parasol Table and chairs Fairy lights BEDROOM Superking size bed (six feet wide) Beautiful 600-thread count bed linen from the White Company Hairdryer BATHROOM Soft towels Large shower GARDEN French metal garden table and chairs GENERAL Heating and hot water Free off-road parking for one car Strictly non smoking environment Places of Interest near by: Kew Gardens is of course world-renowned as a scientific horticultural establishment, so there is lots to see - especially in the glass houses. Hampton Court: the wilderness is carpeted in daffodils in the spring, then the laburnum pergola looks splendid in May, followed by herbaceous borders and classic bedding etc in a whole series of mini gardens. Hampton Court is also the venue for the famous flower show held every July by the Royal Horticultural Society. Richmond is definitely worth a visit. You can park in Pembroke Lodge car park at Richmond Park, and then wander along to see the view from Richmond Terrace before descending into the town. Being a river fan, my favourite place to eat is The Albany at Thames Ditton, five minutes away by car. It has a stunning setting, and it's wonderful to sit outside on a warm summer's evening or in the cosy and stylish interior if it's cooler. Many birds can also be seen just over the road in Bushy Park, along with approximately 125 red deer and 200 fallow deer, introduced by King Henry V111 for hunting. Cycling and walking: Bushy Park gives you ample space to cycle, walk or jog. Or if you take the Hampton ferry, there is a lovely six mile walk or cycle ride along the river to Weybridge. Take a picnic or stop off at one of the pubs en route. There is an outdoor HEATED (!) swimming pool in Hampton, open all year including Christmas Day.... more info >>

Description:Great Tangley Manor is a Grade 1 listed property that has been a dwelling for more than a 1000 years. The first mention of the manor is in the Doomsday Book in 1017 where it was described as a royal hunting lodge, reputedly later King John's. Through the 13th & 14th centuries the lodge was inhabited as a Medieval Hall House according to William Morris. In 1582 alterations were carried out that characterize the main part of the house today. Some of the timbers from the Armada fleet were incorporated into the design and can be seen in the dining room and in the panelling. In 1880 Wycham Flower bought the property and commissioned Phillip Webb to further extend the property and design the moat and gardens. Early in the 19th century, after all the works had been completed, the Royal family, including King George V and Queen Mary, visited the property and signed the window of the dining room with a diamond ring. Signatures of King George VI and Edward VIII can also be seen on the dressing room windows of the master suite. In 1976 the courtyard area was created and incorporated two additional bedrooms and a drawing room. The house was finally split into two dwellings in 1959 and has remained so ever since. Some other notable visitors to the Manor have included John Evelyn, William Morris who may have had some input on the garden design, Lord Grantley, Edward VIII, Gertrude Jekyll, George Jack who designed the music room, and also Alice Keppel.... more info >>

Description:Fit as a fiddle nOn the fringes of Chelsea lies The Boltons, one of London's most exclusive white stucco streets. Its elliptical curves connect the Fulham Road to the Old Brompton Road. And just a few roads away, in that distinctive pale seaside-coloured brick, sits tree-lined Cathcart Road, a street whose houses don't so much shout prestige from their first-floor balconies, as whisper it. This three bedroom, three bathroom home may have once belonged to a world-class sportsman and his former pop star wife, but it has taste and discretion in spades - plus a futuristic remote control system to impress even the savviest of techno fans.Marathon Man nYour hosts are Mandarin-speaking high-flyers who lead a mysterious and glamorous sounding life in Hong Kong. Cathcart Road is a recent acquisition to use as a base when visiting their daughter at boarding school in Oxford- the choice a nostalgia infused one, as he grew up around the corner. On both sides of the world, he regularly competes in Iron Man contests, while in recent months she has thrown herself in to the- undeniably successful- refurbishment of this beautiful home nShake a leg nThe first-floor kitchen, up the stairs from the entrance hall, is a bright and sunny place, whose lime-washed dining table sits easily with the high-gloss black lacquer units and crystal extractor fans. Here, the modern fireplace compliments antique leather armchairs, and sumptuous bespoke commissioned ice-blue linen sofas. Try the remote out for size on the TV, or take it upstairs and try out the 3D flatscreen in the snug TV room. On this floor you'll also find a wall of mirrors in the master bedroom, with its super king-sized bed and reflection-filled ensuite bathroom. On the final floor, discover some animal magic in the prettiest twin bedroom you've ever seen, with zebra-patterned wallpaper and ensuite shower room. Description:Bargain hunting nNotting Hill. Home to jet setters, to glitterati, to models and bankers, to young conservatives and gluttonous foodies, to funky vendors of vintage, to pastel houses, to Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts and that bookshop, ande280a6 well, you may be thinking that you couldne28099t possibly afford to stay in such a stunning part of town. nBut think again. Just two minutes from Notting Hill Gate rests Kensington Mall, a spacious one bedroom flat bearing a surprisingly small price tag. No overwhelming wall paper, no extraneous twiddly bits, just natural fabrics, white walls and some lovely, understated original features. nClatter down the steps into the cosy quiet of this townhouse basement flat, and stretch out on the much-loved sofa, theree28099s little to distract your eye from the delicate fireplace and the soft light filtering through the curtains onto the warm sweep of the wooden floor. nYoue28099ll find all that you need in the well-stocked kitchen, and a bathroom boasting a selection of the most delectable White Company toiletries. And if ite28099s an early night youe28099re after, the double bedroom, with its crisp five star bed linen, is ready and waiting. nLocation, location, location nBut if, on the other hand, youe28099d rather make your evening a late one, youe28099re in just the right place. No grunge here, Notting Hill is both hip and affluent, this is where the smart set come to eat, drink and show the world how very much theye28099re enjoying themselves. With an extraordinarily glamorous selection of bars and restaurants, a world famous antiques market, and the beautiful greenery of Hyde Park close at hand, you wone28099t want to stray too far. Youe28099ve shops and restaurants all around, but once inside, youe28099ll feel as far from the madding crowd as ite28099s possible to be. nFor, from the established trees to the extensive library, everything at Minster Road speaks of a gentle comfort, of fruit cake and bone china, of vintage tapestries and fine wine, here is a home that comforts. nDaisy daisy nYour hostess has travelled the world and youe28099ll find objects from Asia, Brazil, Africa and Japan scattered around Minster Road.
