You rightly sense something quite special is awaiting you while meandering on the lane far through the surrounding sparsely developed 60-acre forest tract, filled with large rhododendron and mountain laurel. The spirit and past presence of the Cherokee is felt here and evidenced by the countless arrowheads found on the property. Peace, calm and well being envelop you upon arrival and will keep you spellbound until you leave. nNestled among the oak and pine on the shore of Lake Glenville is one of the lake’s most magnificent properties. Lake Glenville at 3500 ft., fed by 4 waterfalls with 26 miles of shoreline, is the highest man made lake east of the Mississippi: widely known for its exquisite beauty, purity and temperate summer climate. Designed 5 years ago by the famed William T. Baker, this house seems both lodge and gracious home. The soaring 23-foot great room with its massive beamed ceiling, large stone fireplace and immense windows boasts an unbelievable view a mile down the lake, evoking a sense of grandeur well beyond the ordinary. nLife here is at its best however when you are outside. But there are too many choices! Relax on the large covered porch under the ceiling fan with your feet up listening to music. Or perhaps unwind in the evening with a glass of your favorite libation, sitting with friends and family on the expansive, westward facing deck at mid tree level, looking out at the lake, mountains, sunset and countless stars. Gentle cool breezes wafting through the trees and the sounds of the crickets have caressed many into a relaxed trance. Wind your way down to the stone amphitheater with its large fire-pit near the shore for storytelling and s’mores. Early risers can start the day by sitting with a cup of coffee on the 16’x20’ dock (stretching 50ft out into the lake), often shrouded in the typical summer morning fog, listening to the sounds of the ducks, geese and jumping fish. If you feel like being active, you can swim or float off the end of the deep-water dock or rent a pontoon, ski boat, jet ski or canoe from the marina a mile away. nThis 5400 sq. ft., 5-bedroom/5 c2bd bath home on three levels is very ample for 12 to comfortably stay here. The exterior use of natural materials especially the poplar bark siding and extensive stonework, allows this house to almost disappear into its beautiful wooded setting. Liberal interior use of hickory paneling, pine floors, beautiful stone fireplaces and laurel railing, as well as selected rustic and antique furnishings lend to the phrase “rustic elegance” that aptly describes this home. nA spacious chef’s kitchen with counter seating, fully stocked with virtually every amenity and appliance, awaits you and will surely be a gathering point for lively conversation and gourmet cooking. The table in the beautiful dining room easily seats 8 and can accommodate up to 10 people (additional seating nearby). Should you decide to eat al fresco, the ample dining area on the covered porch provides a wonderful ambiance. The master suite features its own private deck with incredible vistas, satellite TV and a large walk-in closet. The master bath boasts double vanities made with antique Canadian pine countertops and a large shower with dual heads. All the bedrooms are spacious with comfortable beds and magnificent views of the lake, each has its own elegantly appointed bathroom with granite counters. The two upstairs bedrooms have a bonus window bed perfect for reading (or a nap!) The lower level, a perfect area for the kids to be away from the adults, has two bedrooms one with a bunk bed and two twin beds. The entertainment area downstairs features a ping-pong table, large screen TV with surround sound, satellite TV, DVD with video library, x-box, game table and a bar area with a microwave, sink and refrigerator. This level also has a fully stocked laundry room with a large washer and dryer. A smaller deck off the lower level with porch swing below creates more potential private spaces. nBeautiful mountain hikes with breathtaking vistas, waterfalls, shopping, antiquing, golf and dining in nearby Cashiers or Highlands allow one to indulge in other pastimes. Located conveniently on the eastern side of the lake making getting to most attractions much more convenient.
