Description:The Main House: The federal style home built in the 1800s is on the National Registry of Historic Places. The first floor has a gracious living room, country kitchen and large dining room. French doors lead to a sun porch with rockers and wicker furniture. Upstairs there is a spacious master suite with 1 and 1/2 baths, and a sitting/reading room. Two other bedrooms feature twin beds and ensuite full baths. In the back of the home there is a TV room with satellite TV that has a futon sofa that will sleep two and includes a half bath and laundry. The Main House will accomodate eight. nThe Wing: Should more room be desired, the recently remodeled attached wing built in the 1920s can be rented. It includes a LR, and new kitchen with eating area, full bath and laundry. On the second floor there is a master suite/bath, and a second (two twins) and a third, (1 twin)with shared bath. With the TV room, the wing will accomodate seven. The Main House and Wing accomodate 13. nThe Cottage: nAlso on the grounds is the recently renovated Waterfield Cottage that can be rented with or without the Main House. There is a stone patio on the front of the home that overlooks the pond, field and harbor. A large wood deck on the rear of the home is perfect for outdoor dining. The cozy side deck is the place to have your morning coffee. nThe first floor has a comfortable living room, TV/family room, kitchen with dining area, laundry and a master bedroom with a full bath. Enjoying panoramic westerly and south-westerly views over the impressive sailing lanes of Blue Hill Bay, with Blue Hill Mountain in the distance, the views are unsurpassed. A large, deep water pier and mooring awaits your own boat. Or, should you need transport, such is offered for drop off and pick up (including all your supplies) and one midway round trip. Any extra trips are negotiable. There is 24 hour Emergency service available too. Three cozy three bedroom saltbox style cottage has an open floor plan to allow much light and open views of the water. There is a full bath w/shower on the 1st floor and a half bath on the second floor. A large deck overlooks the bay, and is a great place to take in the many sailing races coming out of Kollegewidgwok Yacht Club. Long Island had a rich history in the early heydays of the area, when lack of roads made island living more advantageous. Earlier residents were hearty and independent souls who farmed and raised their own livestock including sheep, from which they knit their own clothing from home spun wool. At one point, more than 6000 sheep inhabited the island. Later sawmills provided quality lumber to the growing region which boomed with the advent of the shipbuilding industry. Stone foundations and old cemeteries are nearly all that remains of its history, as the eventual development of roads made mainland living more desired. Across the bay is a splendid view of the village of Blue Hill with the mountain in the distance and the steeple of a church nestled in among the roof tops of the town. nChipmunks and red squirrels scamper about in the nearby woods, and seals frolic in the bay in front of the house. depending on the tide, there is fine swimming, (albeit chilly!) for about 2/3rds of the time, and during low tide, one can watch long legged egret and heron strutting about. nA rowing dinghy and a kayak are easily launched off a long jetty in front of the cottage and are available to guests upon signing a waiver. A bench at the end of a nearby point offers a fine place for meditation, peace and quiet. Description:Alysadel is a Scandinavian styled cottage nestled within pasture and located on Merchants Point, overlooking Southeast Harbor. It exudes a warm, cabin-type feel with wooden floors and gabled, beamed ceilings. It has a nice, open feel, with open shelving between the kitchen and dining area allowing for excellent ocean views throughout the main living areas through the ample water-facing windows. The living room brick fireplace is surrounded by two couches, chairs and a day bed resting nook, perfect for curling up with a good book. The main house/main floor master bedroom is just off the living room, and has queen bed. Upstairs in the open loft (with lower, sloped ceilings) and has queen and twin beds (ladder to loft, appropriate for 7 years and older). The living room couches can easily be made into twin beds for added sleeping. A guest room is connected to the main house by a wooden deck, with 2 twin beds that can easily be pushed together to make a king, with woodstove, too. Outside, the home is surrounded by woods to the front, and lush pasture stretching down to the serene waterfront. In more protected waters, it is a calm and warmer swimming area. There are expansive, safe waters to kayak and explore the multiple inlets, coves and surroundings islands. Merchants Point is a great central location on Deer Isle, making it an easy location from which to enjoy both the Stonington and Deer Isle villages. This is a perfect family get away.
