Palermo Soho Palermo Soho is a small area of Palermo Viejo around Plaza Serrano (officially Plazoleta Cortázar) on Serrano near Palermo's south-western edge. Description:Apt. 2 is a completely artificial designation. It is just a section of Peru 1573 --off of Caseros -- in an Historic Mansion -- and contiguous rooms can be added to it if more space is required. The apartment is reached by the elevator and the guests of apartment 2 are the only people who have access to it. It consists of 2 real bedrooms that are part of the main house and not the servants quarters with high ceilings and a great deal of architectural detail and 19th-century beds -- one of the bedrooms has 2 beds, the other bedroom has an 18th-century bed--and the 3rd room has a large stain glass window overlooking the garden and the pool. The 3rd room also has a very comfortable feather couch and is big enough for a child to sleep on. (That room has a small refrigerator, a coffee maker, juicer, a hot plate, etc.-- but not a full kitchen). The guests in apartment 2 also have full use of a very large kitchen and an immense dining room table (14 people) as well as a large and well-equipped unit kitchen and access to the garden and pool. Regarding San Telm It is in the trendiest new old neighborhood in Buenos Aires -- and if you don't know Buenos Aires-- it is the least traditional of the (now) upscale neighborhoods--the others (Recoletta, Palermo, Belgrano) are much more stodgy. It is still a “neighborhood--so if you are not allergic to the site of older local ladies walking their mutts? Or neighborhood kids who like each other on the street? Then it is a good place to be in -- and much safer than most -- as there is a police station a block away and invariably numerous cops -- on foot, and everywhere--day and night. And the house itself has been designated as a Landmark building -- a Casco Historico-- and very deservedly. It's perhaps the only single family mansion to survive intact. And I imagine that it's appropriate to include the fact that it is in the most attractive and least totally touristic part of San Telmo--with easy and close access to excellent restaurants, and within walking distance of the antiques center of Buenos Aires--and transportation to all of Buenos Aires is ludicrously available–there must be 8 buses within 2 blocks-- and taxis very easy to hail. And I have an office off the garden. Description:(Preamble: Why no reviews? the house is only now being rented. It is making its transition from being used exclusively by me–and as a film location–to space for events-- And can perhaps be seen better on the website as a film location. ( I don't believe they let you put websites in the description s is the address of the house with 3W.'s in front of the address--and com. at the end). Text: this in NOT an apartment--the quotation marks are there to designate that the house is usually too big to rent as one unit. But as it has 3 entrances and an elevator all of which go to separate sections of the house--artificial designations are possible and are being made. (There are about 40 keys--so contiguous rooms can be added as needed from “Apartment 2.-- is possible to sleep as many people as one likes in the house-- and new photos are being added to give some sense to this). Apartment 1 is the without question the most interesting part of the house--and has exclusive use of the primary entrance of a Historic Mansion in San Telmo-- the most central and trendiest neighborhood in Buenos Aires. Designated as a Landmarked Building--or Casco Historico by Buenos Aires--the house had been used exclusively by me for living in--and is the furthest thing possible from a rental unit. (It has previously been rented only as a film-location and for photo-shoots--and for high-profile events). I will describe apartment 1-- but only as far how many rooms are being rented for the price–with the possibility of simply renting contiguous rooms as well if more space if not the entire house. (I have a website with photographs on it which will give you a sense of the house that this description will certainly fail to). Starting with the entrance: a grand entrance sounds fatuous even a little absurd now--but this house was built by a man precisely that way-- an outrageously ostentatious entrance sacrificing an enormous amount of space for no other reason than the impression that it creates. There is an ornate wide marble staircase leading to a front door with 23 pieces of beveled glass(!)-- which leads into a reception area--and as you enter there is a 16 meter ceiling with an oval “ vitro illuminated by natural light! from the terrace. The reception are has a marble fireplace and is big enough so that the Art Nouveau dining room table has been moved out of the formal dining room–and seats 8 people. To the left is the salon which has, among other things, two enormous leather sofas both of which are more comfortable than most beds. The principal staircase leads to the 2nd floor ( third-floor American-style)–and there there is the master bedroom and bathroom of the “apartment-- but 1st there is another area on that level there is another marble fireplace and used as a sitting room. And the there is a 2nd bedroom–which was originally the dressing room of the lady of the house. (Ideally apartment 1 should be just used by a couple who are just using the master bedroom-- and just having fun with all the rest of the space, but it can actually sleep SEVEN--as the living room sofas are two beds-- and in addition there are 2 (invisible) convertible chairs (under the staircase hidden by a screen) which can also be made into single beds or put together for a double bed-- and with the the small sofa bed in the dressing room apartments 1 really can conflict to leave sleep 7 people! And this is only description of the private area of the house: on the ground floor there is a huge kitchen, a bar, and the dining room or conference table that meets 14. And off of it there is a garden and swimming pool. And now about San Telm until a few years ago it was considered a disreputable ( and even dangerous) slum–but it has come back more quickly then any neighborhood ever has–due to the quality of the architecture and the centrality of its location. And this section of San Telmo is moving the fastest. All of the great old houses are being restored. Good new restaurants are opening almost monthly. There is an excellent park blocks away. Transportation could not be better–and is almost in walking this and of Puerto Madero. It is much more fun than stodgy neighborhood like Recoletta-- and much moretrendy now then Palermo or Belgrano younger and more hippeople (who know Buenos Aries) now want to be here--and not there. It also has, unquestionably, more and better antique stores and any other part of Buenos Aires-- as well as large sections that are still “neighborhood” where people have been living for generations and has not become completely “gentrified” in a boring way-- at least not yet-- and there is still a mix of trendy new restaurants together with neighborhood places.
