Description:Our apartment is located in the historical district of Esquilino. It is impossible to talk about this district without mentioning its pulsating heart, represented by the Piazza Vittoria which is famous for its fascinating arcades and its colourful market. In recent years the market has been moved inside a roofed building, but this doesn’t diminish the fascination in the least. This is one of the most characteristic markets in the city and should definitely be included in your sightseeing. Talking about the Esquilino today is equivalent to multi ethnicity. Walking through the streets carrying names of Kings and Princes you can meet people from all continents of the world, Africa and Asia, as well as Europe and America.We are in a very central zone, well connected through public transportation. The main station Termini and even two subway stations (Termini and Vittorio Emanuele) can be found only a few hundred metres away. It is possible to reach the Colosseum and the Fori Imperiali, the basilica of San Giovanni in Lateran and the basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore by foot. We are on the 5th floor (with elevator) of a completely restored manorial palazzo from the middle of the 19th century in Via Principe Amedeo. Consisting of a matrimonial bedroom, two bedrooms with four beds and two bathrooms with shower, this is a rather large living space. The living room with a kitchenette, a dining table large enough to accommodate all apartment guests, and a matrimonial sofa bed for two people complete the ambience. It is a recently restored, very spacious apartment, in which antique furniture of the end of the 19th century merges with a more modern and functional one. During the restoration the antique pavements with hexagonal tiles, as used to be common once, have been preserved.The apartment is very bright and equipped with a washing machine, a dishwasher, TV in all bedrooms and in the living room, air conditioning and free internet connection. The property is surrounded by a one hectare mature garden rich in various forms of vegetation, including many olive and fruit trees and ornamental plants. You will feel free to walk around as you wish and see St.Peter's Dome in the distance. The Pantheon, the dome, under which even the ever quarrelling deities made Peace. The Palace, the loggia, the rich courtyards, the elegant staircase made for the living and the private meetings of the very inner circle of the papacy. Walk the “Magic Triangle”. Enjoy the large pedestrian area in the middle of which the flat lies, between Piazza Navona, the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps, where you can witness the majority of our art and architecture and you can follow the last trails of the Italian way of life. THE PALACE Our flat is part of a palace built in the 16th century, for a Cardinal Giovanni Salviati. Giovanni was born in Florence, in one of the most rich and powerful families of all Europe. His mother was a sister of Lorenzo de’ Medici: banker, politician and ruler of Florence, friend and moneylender to Royals and to the King of France, horseman, huntsman, friend of the arts, a poet himself, interested in sciences and founder of the Circle of Neo Platonists. A man of his age. This was the world where young Giovanni was raised. But his life took a brand new step when his Medici cousin, a son of Lorenzo, was elected to Papacy. The new Pope called his best friends and his cousin Giovanni to Rome. He ordered them all Cardinals, thus creating his own inner circle of trusted men. Following his classical education, Cardinal Salviati had his Palace built in front of the Pantheon. He asked for two courtyards, one for himself and his guests and one for stables and servants. He had a loggia in his courtyard, so he could be in the open air, in the shade. He longed for a Renaissance style Palace, due to his wealth, culture and status. On top of his palace, he had an impressive classical cornice, decorated with rosettes, fifty two of them, all different from one another. And travertine framed doors, with triglyphs. And such an inheritance he left us. THE FLAT Situated under the roof, the entire flat enjoys a ceiling of bricks and wooden beams, roman style, the same you can see under the Pantheon’s pronao and entrance. This gives the flat a true character of ancient architecture and a warm approach to the space. From a comfortable chair by the window, you can sip your coffee or drink your glass of red wine looking at the Pantheon, at the moon over the dome and at the seagulls flying over it. Just as the Cardinal did. Except for the seagulls, of course, since only very recently they have chosen to live in the city. THE LIVING ROOM This will be your very own personal “Italian Piazza”, during your stay. With stairs to sit on, and an “upper promenade”, with a view. In the silent darkness of the night you can follow the moonlight entering from the oval window and leaving its trail on the floor. You can listen to music, lying in the “cosy corner”. Or you can sit and look out of the low window, at life going on in the real piazza. There’s always people sitting on the fountain’s steps, and you can look at its crystal blue waters. Or, if you wish, at the crystal blue glass of our kitchen’s worktable, sniffing the sweet and spiced aromas of food, while your dinner gets prepared. This is why we left the cooking and house-working space open to the “piazza”. It will be easier to interact with the cook since he or she will not be alone while using our fully equipped kitchen. When tired of your sightseeing, you can relax on our suspended chair or have a go on the swing. Or sit at the dinner-table, obtained from a vintage wooden drawing- table, a first in its kind. You can place your computer on it, should the need arise. But you will surely like it best while chatting and eating with family or friends, in the quietness of the flat, pleasantly warm during the winter, refreshingly air-conditioned in summer. THE NEST (the main bedroom) This is the most private place, the inner core. The roof is nearer, the Pantheon at your window. The Palace’s big cornice will guarantee your peace. This is the nest’s private bathroom. THE BUNKBEDS ( the second bedroom) It is well true that you are in Rome, and near the Pantheon, but it is not for everybody to spend a night in a temple. A Vitruvian one, moreover. This bed is an unique thing. It was designed and realized especially for the flat From the original drawings the architect Vitruvius made in the mid-20s BC., thus creating an architectural text of Hellenistic monuments. He presented this text to the emperor Augustus. You or your children will be delighted to sleep in beds made in the image of the very first Classical Temple created by mankind in ancient Greece. Such temple will be subsequently (in roman times) called by Vitruvius a “Tetrastilo in Antis” Which means that it had an inner cell (the Naos) for the god, four columns at the back (tetra meaning four and stilo meaning column, in the ancient greek language), and two columns at the front (in antis). Many temples will follow this first small one, as you will be able to see, in your journeys in the classical culture But the first is always a first. And the Naos will be your bed. My home is composed by: a cozy living room with a comfortable double sofa bed, TV LCD with dolby surround and satellite channels, HIFI, bookcase, table, chairs, one bedroom with a double bed and wardrobe kitchen equipped by: tea boiler, microwave, toast maker, gas machine, wash machine, refrigerator and freezer, electric grid. Available: pots, dishes, forks, knives, glasses, spices, extra virgin italian oil, everything you need for cooking your meals! Bathroom with shower and hairdryer. Available: shampoo, soap, bubble bath, shower gel, toilet paper, hygiene bags etc. Heating for winter time, air conditioning for summer time Two mountain bikes available. I have no dryer but I have drying rack and you can hang your laundry in building common terrace. AVAILABLE A CELL PHONE WITH ITALIAN TELEPHONE CARD for those who have not cell phone compatible in Italy. THE RENT OF THE WHOLE APARTMENT IS FOR YOUR USE ONLY Colosseum and historical ruins ancient Roman Forum only 15 min walking from home. Just get out from the front door and enter the subway station Vittorio Emauele (few feet from the door!). There are a few steps for the Colosseum, the Domus Aurea, the Cathedral of Santa Maria Maggiore and the Fori Imperiali are all within walking distance in 10 minutes. In addition to cultural sites I recommend a walk in the nearby district Monti neighborhood where you can find many bars and typical restaurants to have dinner or have a drink. If you want to cook at home will find the best fresh produce in the large local market covered less than 50 meters from home. Possibility of access fee to the pool of the nearby Radisson Hotel The flat will be cleaned before your arrival and you will find clean bed sheets and towels. Please read carefully the house rules section. From Termini railways station you walk by via Giolitti till cross via Mamiani.

Description:Our apartment is located in the historical district of Esquilino. It is impossible to talk about this district without mentioning its pulsating heart, represented by the Piazza Vittoria which is famous for its fascinating arcades and its colourful market. In recent years the market has been moved inside a roofed building, but this doesn’t diminish the fascination in the least. This is one of the most characteristic markets in the city and should definitely be included in your sightseeing. Talking about the Esquilino today is equivalent to multi-ethnicity. Walking through the streets carrying names of Kings and Princes you can meet people from all continents of the world Africa and Asia, as well as Europe and America. We are in a very central zone, well connected through public transportation. The main station Termini and even two subway stations (Termini and Vittorio Emanuele) can be found only a few hundred metres away. It is possible to reach the Colosseum and the Fori Imperiali, the basilica of San Giovanni in Lateran and the basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore by foot. We are on the 5th floor (with elevator) of a completely restored manorial palazzo from the middle of the 19th century in Via Principe Amedeo. Consisting of a matrimonial bedroom, two bedrooms with four beds and two bathrooms with shower, this is a rather large living space. The living room with a kitchenette, a dining table large enough to accommodate all apartment guests, and a matrimonial sofa-bed for two people complete the ambience. It is a recently restored, very spacious apartment, in which antique furniture of the end of the 19th century merges with a more modern and functional one. During the restoration the antique pavements with hexagonal tiles, as used to be common once, have been preserved. The apartment is very bright and equipped with a washing machine, a dishwasher, TV in all bedrooms and in the living room, and free internet connection. The bedrooms face the main road, but we are in a very quiet environment since the windows consist of double-paned glass.
