The community has walking path around the fresh water lake you can fish there or observe birds, turtles, even otters. This place is close to a big Shopping Center plaza and restaurants - within walking distance, or 2 minutes drive to a shopping center with a supermarket, gas station, K-Mart and a fantastic Mexican restaurant – La Casita and Rib City. Just around the corner on McGregor Blvd in nearby K-Mart plaza is Pinchers restaurant which you may enjoy. It has a great grilled chicken sandwich w/swiss cheese, The Kids menu is great and the wait staff will treat you well. Outlet mall is 3 blocks to the right at the light by Kmart, includes a Big Lot a little farther, just past the underpass, is a Perkins Restaurant to the left, many family oriented attractions, Without the car you can walk from our home (15-20 min) to the nearest Shopping Center plaza with Big K-Mart, Mother Earth store (Health Food store), Dollar Store, Trift store, Goodwill Book store, etc.. There is a WALGREENS PHARMACY open 24 hours just around the corner. TARGET SUPERSTORE (huge) is in just 5 min drive. Sanibel & Captiva Islands (10-15 min drive), there are many choices for adventure. Visit also Bonita Beach, Barefoot Preserve, Tigertail Beach (on Marco Island), and the one at the end of Captiva Island. Those are beautiful natural beaches, with only a few people around. Some let you enter for free if you get there later in the day (at around 4:00pm).. If you have kids, go to the Crab Race and the owner will tell you all about it. THE FUN STUFF Beaches of Estero (Fort Myers Beach) and Sanibel Islands are less than 15 minutes away. Retail outlets, restaurants and grocery are all nearby. Tanger Outlet Mall is about 2 miles away, while Miromar and Prime outlets are about 30 minutes driving by car. There are also a number of water parks, miniature golf facilities in close proximity to the house. A number of nature preserves and State Parks in the area make for great entertainment for young and old alike. Try an air boat ride, paddling a kayak through mangroves, fishing off one of many piers throughout the region, deep sea fishing with a charter company. All within easy and quick access to our home. For art and history buffs, there are museums and art galleries like the Ford and Edison Winter Estates in our downtown, Fort Myers Art Walk, Shell Factory, the Baily-Matthews Shell Museum to name but a very few. We keep a complete directory on the desk for guests. For baseball fans, the Red Sox call Fort Myers their winter home as do the Minnesota Twins. Beaches of Estero (Fort Myers Beach) and Sanibel Islands are great and it costs $2/hr to park there. At the end of Captiva Island is a parking area for the beach/ Nature Preserve (only $1/hr parking fee). As the tide goes out, the tidal pools are forming, and you can have fun finding crabs, starfish, minnows, and other creatures in them. You can see manatees swim just before the entrance to Lover's Key State Park. If nature is your interest, make sure to visit Bowditch Point Park. It's located at the northern tip of Estero Island. Here, you will be amazed at how many different things there are to see, both on land and at sea! Before leaving the island, you can stop at one of the restaurants, go shopping in one of the many shops that line the streets, or get fudge for the sweet craving one may desire. Along San Carlos Blvd, be sure to stop at Love Boat Homemade Ice Cream for an unforgettable treat. On Fort Myers Beach you can do Deep Fishing or take a ride on SAILBOAT for the sunset CRUISE, go boating or see fantastic sunsets by the pier. Go to Top of the Mast and the DJ will play any songs that you request and you can dance in the sand! Try The Smokin Oyster Bar for a great groupper sandwich and Anthony's On the Gulf for a nice prime rib dinner outside. Breakfast at The Heavenly Biscuit is hard to beat. Visit Ron Daos, a place for the sports' fans with 65 tv screens and good food, and Busters, another place for the sports' fans with a good menu which offers 4-course daily specials. Visit Nervous Nellie's Restaurant at Fort Meyers Beach. This is just west of the bridge leading to Ft Meyers Beach on the north side. This could be your favorite dining experience as you seat on the deck next to the docks and watch the dolphins playing. The food is awesome also. Joe's Crab Shack on West First Street in Fort Meyers has seating directly over the ocean and the kids will have a good menu to choose from. The Sanibel Causeway makes going to the beach real accessible. Ride to Sanibel and Captiva islands and just check things out. The homes there are so beautiful. Have fun on the BIG M CASINO BOAT. The ride (9 miles out and back) is worth the $6.00 to get on the Sanibel's bridge. You can rent a bike on Sanibel and ride on the walkway around the whole Island. There are some good restaurants close by. There are also a number of water parks, miniature golf facilities in close proximity to the house. GOLF - you are able to use some public and some private, but if you are a serious golfer and do not might driving about 30 min, you can find some challenging courses in Naples and Bonita Springs. Also before you get to Ft.Myers Beach there are 2 MINI GOLFs. There are plenty of places to go. You can go to the Bell Tower Mall which has outdoors shoping, several RESTAURANTS and MOVIE THEATRE with 12 MOVIES showing. When you go onto main Road 41 (about 15 minutes drive) you will see all the big RESTAURANTs, BIG STORES and SPECIALTY OUTLET shops. The HOSPITAL is about 15 min away and called Healthpark. A number of nature preserves and State Parks in the area make for great entertainment for young and old alike. Visit Lover's Key for fantastic shells. Every one is friendly and glad to share their stories. Low key resort with a lot of tranquility. Very relaxing and healing. Nice escape from hustle and bustle of every day life. Combing these shores to look for the dark gems has always been a favorite pastime of visitors and residents here because these teeth make great collectibles. The teeth range in size from one-eighth inch to three inches and may be black, brown, or gray, depending on the type of minerals, deposits, and vegetation in the soil in which they have been buried. To start your own collection, you have to take a walk along the shore and hopefully discover sharks' teeth, for which the beach is famous countrywide. - Stump Pass Beach State Park is #1 attraction in Englewood The main attraction at this park is the beach and the fact that it has a large amount of sharks teeth just waiting to be found. What makes this beach different are the sharks teeth which are washed up on shore. Many locals walk along the shore line collecting sharks teeth. Most of the teeth are small and black and shaped like a Y, however occasionally you will find a really large one, which is a lovely keepsake of the area! They are usually black because they're so old, but sometimes you can find new teeth that are more gray towards the tip. On occasion, if you are there enough and do enough digging, you can uncover some real monster teeth. These are from the ancient Megladon sharks and can be worth a lot of money depending on the size and condition. It only costs $3 for an all-day park pass versus the 75 cents per hour at Englewood Beach just down the road and it shouldn't be hard to fund a spot as most of the tourism happens farther North up at Siesta Key. The home is a very short walk to the beach (the island is only about 600 yards wide at its widest point) and shops and restaurants in the village. Our single family home has four bedrooms with four attached full baths, two with king beds, one with a queen bed, and one with two sets of bunk beds. There is also a fifth bedroom off the kitchen that is appropriate for children it has a daybed and a fold-out couch. All bedrooms have televisions. The house comfortably sleeps ten people. The property has an elevator and is accessible for those with disabilities. It also has wireless, broadband cable modem access. This is a bright, cheerful and very comfortable home that is a wonderful place to bring your children for a vacation. Good fun for all lots of board games, children’s videos and TV, ping-pong and pool tables by the pool! Come see the dolphins, manatees and river otters swimming nearby! The pool is standard size, sloping to about six feet in depth at the deep end. Our home is in the village shops and restaurants are a very short walk, approximately 1,000 – 2,000 feet. There are also two Marinas located within 1,000 – 2,000 feet from the home. The house is a 75 minute drive from the Ft. Myers airport, depending on traffic. You will not need to take a ferry you will drive across a newly built causeway. Grocery Stores: There are two significant grocery stores in Sanibel, approximately 15 minutes away by car, Jerry’s Foods, , and Bailey’s, . You will pass these stores as you drive through Sanibel to Captiva. You can order food from Jerry’s ahead of your visit and have it delivered to the home. There is also the Island Store on Captiva, an old fashioned convenience store, approximately 1,000 feet from our home. Description:Fly-in, Boat-in, Tropical Island Retreat. The Island: North Captiva Island is a barrier island located north of the Sanibel/Captiva island chain and approximately 17 miles NW of Ft. Myers, Florida. The island is approximately ½ mile wide and 3 miles long with the north half of the island containing private homes and the airstrip, while the southern half is a state wildlife preserve. What sets North Captiva apart from the other islands is that access to the island is only possible by private boat, water taxi, or private airplane. There are no cars or paved roads to upset the natural beauty of the island. Transportation on North Captiva is accomplished using golf carts on scenic dirt roads and paths. Here, traffic congestion, tourist attraction hysteria and over commercialization seems worlds away. The House: Runaway Haven is a 3 Bedroom, 2 bath home located on the north west corner of the island. The house is situated next to the runway on the west end and about 300 ft from the gulf beaches. A stairs adjacent to the dining area leads down to the ground floor which contains the third bedroom with a queen bed and bath. The ground floor is completely decked and contains a beach shower enclosure, a game area with a ping-pong table, washer and dryer room and covered parking for the golf cart. From the main floor, a stair leads up to the third level deck area that provides open deck space for sun bathing. An observation deck provides an un-obstructed, 360 degree view of the island with beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Inside, the house is fully furnished, with telephone,TV, VCR/CD, FAX, DSL, dishwasher as well as central air-conditioning and heating. For your outdoor needs, the main floor has a fully screened patio, and the ground floor has an outdoor deck with Charcoal Bar-B-Q grill and picnick table. Getting To the Island : Water Taxi: Island Girl Charters, located at the Pine Island Marina on Pine Island, provides scheduled water taxi service to and from North Captiva Island. Island Girl operates several 30-35 ft charter boats which will take you and all your supplies/luggage and groceries to the Island. Private Boat: If coming by private boat, the boat can be launched at the Pine Island Marina. NCIC has docks available for rent. Private Aircraft: North Captiva Island has a private airstrip approximately 2000 ft long water to water east to west on the north end of the island. It is perfect for two families vacationing together or one big family to spread out! We refer to the two sides as “Sunrise and Relax on the lanai, dine under the large umbrella-ed deck or take a cool shower in your own private, outdoor shower. Just added, an in-ground, private, heated, swimming pool! Relax with a cold cocktail while sitting on one of the submerged stools, or maybe enjoying a fun game of water volleyball is more your style ... Just steps (about one football field) to the beach for some of the best shelling in the country, midnight star gazing and awesome sunset celebrations all at half the cost of staying beachfront. To get to the beach you simply walk out the front door, down Anchorage St. for a 2 min. walk. Immediately to the right of the beachfront home is our deeded beach access. Each of these bedrooms has its own bathroom, living area consisting of chair, couch and TV as well as an outdoor porch with chairs. One of these bedrooms (queen bed) has a half bathroom and the other (queen bed) has a full bathroom, laundry facility as well as a kitchenette. The private, outdoor shower can be accessed through the hallway the leads to these bedrooms and upstairs. Upstairs you will you find the family room, kitchen, 2 decks, full sized laundry facilities, 2 bedroom (1 king and 1 queen), full bathroom and bar area with stools and dining area. Both decks are outfitted with tables and chairs. The left side of the house (Sunrise) has a separate, private entrance. It contains a small deck with table and chairs, family room, full bathroom, bedroom (king) loaded kitchen, bar area with stools and dining area. On the first level, we have the living room with a 42 flat screen TV, large corner sofa, kitchen, dinning room with a large table that seats 6, and a half bathroom. Easy 14 steps up to the second level where you will find three very private bedrooms with brand new furniture, two bathrooms (one has a tub, the other has a walk-in shower). The master bedroom has a walk-in closet. Our townhome is conveniently located just two miles away from I-75. In 30 minutes, you can be in Sarasota enjoying the best beaches in the world. Alternatively, Venice Beach is just 20 minutes away. Jelks preserve with Myakka river and several miles of hiking trails is a short walk on the paved sidewalk (about half a mile away). Snook Haven is a rustic restaurant with live music, outdoor seating and boat rental on Myakka River that is only one mile away. Our community is new ( was build in 2008) and has only 109 units. We have heated community pool, lake, BBQ area. Our HOA requires one month minimum stay for renters.
