During the Spanish Civil War [1936-9], the chapel was ransacked, but after the war, the Marquesa returned, refurbished the chapel with religious artifacts from her home in Madrid. The building then resumed its role as religious centre of the estate, used for wedding blessings, baptisms, and other religious services. Today, a statue of the Virgin of Lourdes presides over the altar, which is more than two centuries old. Colorful carved saints look down from the walls, and the original marble font stands beside the entrance. The chapel's vaulted roof and high windows provide subtle lighting and atmosphere for an intimate ceremony. Seating capacity is for 35 people. There are twelve bedrooms in the main house, all individually decorated and furnished with antiques. Every bedroom, except for one on the third floor, has an en suite bathroom. Guest areas in the main building include a vaulted drawing room with original stone fireplace, an attractive wood panelled dining room, and a library and games room/museum. The ornamental Moorish-style gardens have been laboriously restored to their former glory. Ancient cypress hedges border an attractive swimming pool fed by a natural spring. Granada, the ski resort of Solynieve (Sierra Nevada), and the Alpujarra Mountains, are just a few of the numerous attractions that lie within a short drive of the property. Description:Cortijo Andalus is a beautiful big self catering villa converted from a 200 year old olive mill. With its nine en-suite bedrooms and huge hall it is the perfect venue for big family get-togethers and large groups of friends who want to holiday together but at the same time there is plenty of space within the Cortijo and outside in its gardens and patios for everyone to find a quiet secluded corner. All this space makes it a great holiday home as well as a perfect venue for weddings and workshops.The main house has 2 bedrooms and the most recent conversion has 7 bedrooms within 3 apartments. nThe Cortijo, its pool and gardens are surrounded by a high stone wall that provides privacy and a lovely sense of tranquility. It is just 5 minutes away from the mountain top village of Iznajar and just an hour away from the centres of Andalucian culture, Granada, Cordoba and Malaga, with Seville and the ski slopes of the Sierra Nevada just over an hour and a half away. nAll the bedrooms are spacious and decorated with beautiful pieces of furniture from Morocco and India and all have underfloor heating. There are in total 7 bedrooms in the most recently converted part of the mill, of which 3 are suites with plenty of space to add child beds or sofa beds and all have ensuite shower rooms. There are 3 kitchen/dining rooms and a large 70m2 living room which may serve as a large dining room or games room.
