Description:Every bedroom is a miniature palace: unique, enchanting, and luxurious. Every turn of an outdoor path leads to a secret garden overhung with vines. And when you come to the edge, the view…, Well, words can't describe this vista. With a history dating back to the year Columbus discovered America, this Moorish holiday villa in Andalusia is a work of art, history, and painstaking restoration. You won't even need to visit the museum room in this Spanish luxury villa in Andaluca, because history unfolds around you like a fine silk tapestry. Smell that warm, dusty Spanish air, tinged with the scent of flowers? That's Time. n n[6,660 m2] Behind the protective wall that surrounds the estate, you will delight in this villa's 200-year-old Moorish ornamental gardens, which have been laboriously restored to their former glory. Here you can wander or relax in total peace and tranquility, surrounded by centuries-old palm trees, shady bowers, and colorful exotic plants. Ancient cypress hedges border an attractive swimming pool fed by a natural spring, and other facilities on-site include a private chapel [open for guests at any time, see description below], a tennis court, and an outside summer bar/dining area. Everything is surrounded by magnificent views of the hillsides and valley. Entrance to the property is controlled electronically, guaranteeing privacy at all times. n n[1,600 m2] This villa estate is comprised of a main house, a cottage [which is 50 yards away and outside of the property's electronic gate], and a chapel, has been elegantly and thoughtfully renovated so as to preserve its unique atmosphere and outstanding historical features, including some of the original furniture and decorations. The owners work hard to maintain a residence that is as visually authentic as possible—,that's why you won't see the typical air conditioning or central heating units, or find mini-bars or telephones in the rooms. In the winter heating is provided electrically and on open log fires for the lounge areas. Guests can also communicate by telephone, fax, or email from the library. nMain House [1,200 m2, sleeps 20] nGround Floor: The focal point of the main floor is without a doubt the magnificent vaulted and columned drawing room, with an original stone fireplace, chairs, couches, and tables scattered throughout the room. Other main rooms include a wood-paneled drawing room, a library, an inner patio, and a billiard room/museum. The formal dining room has seating for at least 14, while the large kitchen is fully equipped with two ovens, 4 refrigerators, industrial dishwasher, microwave, toasters, and other kitchen appliances. A separate laundry room has a washing machine, iron, and ironing board as well as a large deep freeze. There is also one bedroom on the ground floor: nRoom 10 has two twin beds that can be joined upon request and an en suite bathroom with sink, toilet, and shower. Another bedroom, Room 11, is reserved as a staff room. nFirst Floor: There are ten bedrooms on the first floor. All rooms are individually decorated and, like the rest of the house, furnished with antiques and curios. Bathrooms are all en suite except for room 12. nRoom 1: This large, north-facing room has a 160 cm queen-size bed, a sitting area, and an en suite bathroom with sink, toilet, and tub with handheld showerhead. nRoom 2: This suite contains a 160 cm queen-size 4-poster bed, a living room area, and a luxury en suite bathroom with sink, toilet, large bathtub, and separate shower. The bedroom faces south and west. nRoom 3: This bedroom is south-facing and has a 160 cm brass queen-size bed, an en suite bathroom [sink, toilet, and bathtub with handheld showerhead], and views over garden. nRoom 4: A south-facing room with two twin beds that can be joined upon request and an en suite bathroom with sink, toilet, and bathtub with handheld showerhead. nRoom 5: This south-facing room has two twin beds that can be joined upon request and an en suite bathroom with sink, toilet, and bathtub with handheld showerhead. nRoom 6: Facing south and east, this bedroom has the best views. It is spacious and contains a canopied 160 cm double bed and a luxury bathroom with sink, toilet, and tub with handheld showerhead. nRoom 7: This bedroom has two twin beds that can be joined upon request and an en suite bathroom with sink, toilet, and bathtub with handheld showerhead. A connecting room contains a sofa bed suitable for one. The room faces north and east. nRoom 8: This north facing room with a living area has two twin beds that can be joined upon request and an en suite bathroom with sink, toilet, and tub with handheld showerhead. nRoom 9: In the rear tower, this bedroom contains a 4-poster 160 cm queen-size bed and an en suite bathroom with sink, toilet, and bathtub with handheld showerhead. It faces south and east and also has a private terrace. nRooms 10 and 11 are on the ground floor. nRoom 12: In the front tower, this room contains two twin beds [can be joined upon request], with a separate bathroom [sink, toilet, and bathtub with handheld showerhead] in a converted dovecote on the floor above. nCottage [400 m2, sleeps 4] nPlease be aware that the cottage is located 50 yards away from the main house outside of the property's walls and situated next to a few other residential cottages. Ground Floor: This cottage by the main villa has recently been decorated in a rustic style and has electric heating. A small vine-covered terrace leads to the front door, into the entrance hall, and a fully equipped modern kitchen with cook-top, washing machine, and dishwasher. There is also a sitting room with an open fireplace and French windows that open onto a west-facing terrace with panoramic views over an unspoiled valley. One bathroom has a sink, toilet, and bathtub with handheld showerhead. nFirst Floor: There are two bedrooms upstairs, each with two single beds [can be joined upon request] and en suite bathrooms with sink, toilet, and bathtub with handheld showerhead. The landing between them is a study area with an open fireplace and stairs to a storage area in the attic. One of the bedrooms has a view of the valley, while the other overlooks the courtyard. nThe Chapel: Constructed circa 1890, the chapel was dedicated to the Virgin of Lourdes by the Marquesa, the last member of the original family, after a pilgrimage to Lourdes cured her of cancer. During the Spanish Civil War [1936-9], the chapel was ransacked, but after the war, the Marquesa returned, refurbished the chapel with religious artifacts from her home in Madrid. The building then resumed its role as religious centre of the estate, used for wedding blessings, baptisms, and other religious services. Today, a statue of the Virgin of Lourdes presides over the altar, which is more than two centuries old. Colorful carved saints look down from the walls, and the original marble font stands beside the entrance. The chapel's vaulted roof and high windows provide subtle lighting and atmosphere for an intimate ceremony. Seating capacity is for 35 people. Power outlets are available for extra photographic lighting or taped music. n nLocated in the hills between the monumental city of Granada and the Costa Tropical, this villa is entirely private, while still enjoying easy access to bustling seaside villages. This area is one of the less modernized areas of the Spanish Mediterranean, perfect for those who want to avoid tourist traps. Within the range of a days' excursion, you'll find a huge selection of things to do and see. Most water sports can be found in Almunecar and La Herradura, while horseback riding, mountain biking, and hiking opportunities abound in the hills surrounding the villa and in the Alpujarras. The Sierra Nevada is host to one of Spain's best winter ski resorts, Sol y Nieve. An 18-hole golf course is located just outside Granada. The city of Granada itself has a wealth of monuments, including the Alhambra Palace [Spain's most visited monument] and its gardens. Also interesting are the old gypsy quarter of Sacromonte, the Cathedral and the Royal Chapel, La Alcaicieria [old silk market], the Arab baths, and an archaeological museum. For those more interested in rural wonders, few mountain villages are more impressive than those in the spectacular Alpujarra mountain region, classified by UNESCO as a World Biosphere Reserve. Toward the coast and down through the verdant Tropical Valley [full of exotic fruit orchards], you'll find Almunecar. This local market town is worth a visit for its Moorish castle, botanical gardens, and Roman monuments. To the east lies Salobrena, a picturesque white village surrounded by sugar cane fields and crowned with another Arab fortress. To the west you will find Nerja, home to one of the largest cave systems in the country, and the tallest stalactite pillar in the world. We could go on, but half the fun of traveling is discovering the secrets of the land on your own! nSol y Nieve: 1.5 hours by car nThe Alpujarras: 1 hour nGranada [airport]: 55 km nNerja: 45 min nLa Herradura: 40 min nSalobrena: 40 min nBeaches: 30 min nAlmunecar: 15 km n nAvailable Amenities: Three hours of maid service per day, gardener/handyman, linen change at the end of each week, public pay telephone, ovens, 4 fridges, industrial dishwasher, microwave, toaster, deep freeze, washing machine, all utilities included in rental price. nExtra Services: The following are listed as an aid for trip planning, the services and prices are approximate and cannot be guaranteed by Rentvillas.
