It is on the Settle-Carlisle Railway, which traverses the Pennines and the station won the Best Kept Station for 17 consecutive years. It has been taken over by the Settle and Carlisle Railway Trust and is one of the most attractive stations on the line. The limestone country around here is popular for caving and potholing. Horton-in-Ribblesdale boasts a number of pubs and inns, well known for serving excellent food. The medieval parish church in the village dates from the 15th Century but with many Norman features. As an alternative to walking and climbing, there is much to be explored underground as this is an area rich in caves and potholes.
