Description:Situated near the charming french village of Delettes and only 45 minutes from Calais in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region of France, the 19th century Farmhouse, old house and the barns, enclose the four sides of its huge courtyard, entered though two large gates under one of the barns. It creates a completely private and large secure space (especially for smaller children), which is also an amazing sun trap and micro climate. To the rear of The Farmhouse there is a large garden, big enough to play 5 aside football or cricket, and a heated swimming pool. The Farmhouse was our home from home for over 16 years until we restored the Old House in 2005 which is usually only occupied by the family when there are no guests in the Farmhouse, so you have the whole place to yourselves. The Farmhouse is still furnished and equipped as we had it then for our own comfort and relaxation. It is truly an overseas home from home. It is ideal for any time of year, whatever the weather, or for any size of group wishing to take a relaxing short weekend break or full holiday. Our prices start from 4 persons upwards and vary according to length of stay, number of persons staying, and the time of year. The minimum stay is two nights and it is available every day of the year. There are four bedrooms for up to 8 adults but it can sleep up to 12 people using the sofa bed in the games room and z beds (which are suitable for children). It has full oil fired central heating and constant hot water, as well as a fully equipped kitchen for foodies, a dining room and a sitting room with a log fuelled stove and comfortable sofas. There is masses to do there for children of all ages (and their parents) in and around the farmhouse with its games room, courtyard, barns with trampoline, football nets, badminton and ride on toys, garden games and heated pool (available mid-May mid-October). There is an extensive library of books and guide books, CDs and records, as well as table tennis, table football and a dart board in the games room, a TV with DVD/Video player and a large collection of videos to suit all ages and tastes - if you are there long enough for everything else to pall. It has a calming atmosphere all of its own, as well as an ability to seemingly expand to absorb large parties and to feel homely if there are only two of you. Perhaps it is something to do with being the site of a monastery farm for many centuries and being able to shut out the world with the enormous courtyard gates. Who knows, but families who have stayed and come back again and again have said it is one of the most relaxing holidays they have had, as the children are always fully occupied and there is plenty of space for everyone. Over the years, our guests have used the Farmhouse for everything from celebrating landmark anniversaries and re-unions, family holidays with grandparents or just enjoying good food and drink with friends, to spending a quiet romantic weekend à deux enjoying the tranquility of the house and garden. There is full oil fired central heating so that even in winter the Farmhouse is warm and cosy inside with the added benefit of a log fire. There are lots of books, including a library of the military history of the area, particularly the First and Second World Wars and 100 years war as we are only 45 minutes away from Agincourt and an hour from the Western Front. There are jigsaws and board games, including Pas de Calais Monopoly! Risk, Tyrants Tower etc. and numerous packs of cards. You can even revisit your childhood with a game of tiddlywinks or marbles. The kitchen is set up for foodies for those who like to cook as well as eat. The available ingredients in the market and hypermarkets (let alone locally) will leave you spoiled for choice. It has a cooker/oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, coffee machine, kettle, toaster and a basic stock of herbs and spices, rice, pasta, etc. right down to oyster openers and garlic crushers. We like to cook! There is a cellar under the kitchen for really smelly cheeses and wine with a spare fridge in the utility room for overflow when you have bought just a little too much in the market! The large master bedroom has a double bed (and a single bed if you need a small child to share) with views over the garden whilst the other three bedrooms have twin beds and views into the courtyard. The games room has a Futon and a sofa bed and there are two Z beds for use by children along with two travel cots and high chairs for smaller children. There are 2 separate loos upstairs and a separate shower room and a separate loo downstairs with an additional shower room and bathroom. There is a utility room with washing machines and tumble dryers. The Farmhouse is looked after by our French housekeeper and her family, who lives in the village, and is available to assist you if needed. They can supply fresh eggs (if the hens are laying) and fresh milk direct from their farm. Further details outdoors: The courtyard is huge and as it is closed in on all four sides, is completely private, as well as creating its own micro-climate, which makes it usable for sitting out or eating outside much earlier or later in the year than you would normally expect. It is a great place to get that tan in summer whilst listening to your favourite music through the sitting room windows or to eat outside in the evenings. For more information and photos of The Farmhouse and immediate area please visit our website through the link or Google Hamilton Holiday Houses. The main barn at one end of the courtyard has a full size trampoline and swing set on a bark base, with 5- aside sized football nets, a marked out badminton court, a basketball net and ride- on toys for use by smaller children. Once the big gates from the road into the courtyard are closed (they can be locked on the inside) the courtyard and garden provide an enormous secure play area for children In the barn between the courtyard and the garden we have garden badminton sets, boules sets, footballs, cricket bats and stumps, hockey sticks, boules, garden Jenga etc. There is also a barbecue and extra tables for eating outside and garden chairs. There are goal posts which can be used in the garden in the summer and in the main barn in winter if it is raining. The heated swimming pool in the garden is 10 x 5 meters and over 1 meter deep. It is fully enclosed with a wall for security with a lockable door. With the high wall around it, it is a sun trap, catching the sun until late evening.... more info >>
