Description:About the house: Fair Hill Cottage is conveniently situated in a prime location with trail access, village shops, and restaurants within a few minutes’ walk. One of few homes located with direct access to both the lighthouse (and the Whitehead cliffs) and northern trailheads (to Cathedral Woods, Blackhead, and Pebble Beach), it provides the ideal situation for a memorable stay. Fair Hill also sits adjacent to ice pond road and a 3-minute walk to Deadman's Cove for some of the most breathtaking sunsets and views from the island. The cottage itself is a quaint and authentic Monhegan original. The two bedroom, one bathroom home sleeps 7 comfortably (2 full beds, a single cot, and a small pull-out couch) with both bedrooms featuring partial ocean sunset views in the distance. The main floor features an eat-in kitchen with a gas stove/oven, refrigerator/freezer and basic cooking and dining necessities. Adjacent to the kitchen is a dining room boasting natural light (with table doubling as an art/project table) and pleasant views of ice pond road and neighboring cottages. The living room is centered around a cozy wood-burning fireplace with ample seating to curl up and read a book or relax after a long day of exploring. The outdoor area includes a spacious yard with a relaxing hammock and a front porch and back deck. About the island: Breathtaking Monhegan Island is located several miles off of mid-coast Maine and is only accessible by boat. It offers some of the most dramatic scenery and best birding on the east coast. The rocky island is about 1 1/4 miles long and 3/4 mile wide, and features 17 miles of hiking trails which lead through spruce forests out to the highest ocean cliffs on the Maine coastline. Most of the island is a privately managed nature preserve that will remain forever wild. As one of the country's foremost artists colonies, it is a highly sought after destination for those who come to paint the natural beauty of the island and the traditional fishing village. The island attractions feature a wonderful lighthouse and museum, several art galleries, coffee houses, restaurants, two general stores and gift shops. With a year round population of approximately 50 residents and no cars other than a few utility trucks used by residents, Monhegan thrives in spring, summer and autumn with a friendly community of artists, hikers, and visitors who wander the village and trails all by foot. Come experience the peaceful unhurried pace of Monhegan Island! Please contact host for discounted rates in May and October if interested!... more info >>

This house is intimate and romantic, while the views on all sides bring the outside in and lend it an incredibly expansive feel. Jaw-dropping! The peace and quiet and privacy here will amaze you, and there is virtually no traffic near us as we are situated at the turnaround of a small paved road high on the slope, and at the end of a long, steep private drive. On the surrounding mountains to the Ocean, on all sides you will see nothing but forests and meadows dotted by a few fine houses in the distance with their cheerful lights at night. Forests below you and blueberry fields above, you look down over the lush treetops or pick your own blueberries in season above the house. You see dozens of the islands on the Ocean, with Cadillac Mountain in the distance on Mt. Desert Island in Acadia National Park 50 miles away as the crow flies. The sunrise—if you are up for it—will sparkle on the water and sunsets will turn it a deep pink. The area provides infinite possibility for the Nature lover, sailor, historian, art aficionado, birdwatcher or stargazer. Activities:Biking, Camping, Hiking
Description:If you are looking to escape the crowds and experience the best that Acadia National Park has to offer, come visit the Island! The Isle au Haut section of Acadia National Park lays at the front door of this little cottage, which itself is ideally located just a short walk from the village of Isle au Haut. The cottage sleeps four, but a small lawn directly off of the deck is perfect for easy camping to allow for a tent and a couple of extra people. Rates: Spring/Early Summer (thru end of June): $525/week or $85/night (two night min) Mid-Summer (Jul 1- Sep 1): $950/week or $150/night (three night min) Late Summer/Fall (Sep 1- Oct 31): $525/week or $85/night (two night min) There is an additional 7% for Maine Lodging tax, and a $200 security deposit. These two items can be taken care of along with a rental agreement directly with the owner. The island is truly remote: once nighttime falls the clarity of the stars is unforgettable. The island is crisscrossed with hiking trails. A hike from the cottage to Duck Harbor and onto the incredible Cliff Trail is perhaps the most strenuous, but well worth the effort. Or go easy on yourself and hang out on the sunny deck in the morning and move onto the shady side for the afternoon. Walk up to the lighthouse to catch the sunset over the Camden Hills in the evening. After arriving to the island on the mailboat from Stonington (you leave your car parked there-this is perhaps what keeps the island so unique), take the bikes back into town to hit the store and get acquainted with the town. Walk next door to Black Dinah Chocolatiers and sample their other-worldly creations at their wi-fi cafe. Explore around the house there are blueberries galore, bogs and meadows. There is an excellent trail map available from the National Park Service online or available at the Ranger Station, just a few minutes walk from the cottage. Go to the town landing to fish for mackerel and watch the lobster boats. Bike around the island and swim at the freshwater pond. The cottage is small with an open feeling. The furnishings are simple but comfortable, the kitchen is equipped and pleasant, and the bathroom is clean and cute. A spiral staircase winds up to the sleeping quarters, which contains two full size futons, one normally set up as a bed. Back downstairs, a retro couch pulls into another full sized bed. There is Rinnai heater to keep things snug on chilly nights. And there is WIFI intenet access-but bring your own electronic devices. There is a cd player/radio. A large deck, meadow and woods surround the house, with the island’s loop road providing occasional passersby and entertainment, mostly hikers and trucks filled with kids and dogs. A small lawn leads down to an enclosed highbush blueberry garden. Pick them for breakfast with your pancakes!... more info >>
