One of few homes located with direct access to both the lighthouse (and the Whitehead cliffs) and northern trailheads (to Cathedral Woods, Blackhead, and Pebble Beach), it provides the ideal situation for a memorable stay. Fair Hill also sits adjacent to ice pond road and a 3-minute walk to Deadman's Cove for some of the most breathtaking sunsets and views from the island. The cottage itself is a quaint and authentic Monhegan original. About the island: Breathtaking Monhegan Island is located several miles off of mid-coast Maine and is only accessible by boat. The rocky island is about 1 1/4 miles long and 3/4 mile wide, and features 17 miles of hiking trails which lead through spruce forests out to the highest ocean cliffs on the Maine coastline. Most of the island is a privately managed nature preserve that will remain forever wild. As one of the country's foremost artists colonies, it is a highly sought after destination for those who come to paint the natural beauty of the island and the traditional fishing village. The island attractions feature a wonderful lighthouse and museum, several art galleries, coffee houses, restaurants, two general stores and gift shops. With a year round population of approximately 50 residents and no cars other than a few utility trucks used by residents, Monhegan thrives in spring, summer and autumn with a friendly community of artists, hikers, and visitors who wander the village and trails all by foot. Description:Harcliff is a large (6 bedroom) summer home located at the end of a quiet town road where local lobster fishermen can be seen hauling their traps. The large front and back lawns allow room for family activities. It is not however suitable for very large groups or weddings. A long pier and rowboat give access to the ocean. The tide is quite dramatic (9 ft ) but the cove is suitable for mooring your own boat. The nearest neighbor is over 100 yards away barely visible through the trees. Walking in the opposite direction through the woods and you are on the state beach. The house has two living units, which allows the Atkinson's to vacation there on occasion. The rental unit is the left side of the building and the downstairs features a kitchen, dining & living rooms, bath with shower and two bedrooms. A large deck off the dining room is great for social gatherings. Rooms on the second floor are a bath with tub and double vanity, three bedrooms, two of which face the ocean. SHEETS AND TOWELS NOT PROVIDED. There is also a large unfinished room with three bunkbeds and a sitting area, great for kids. The kitchen is fully equiped and includes a lobster cooker for outdoor use. Let nature be your entertainment as there is no TV. See the best of the true Maine experience and explore the islands, harbors, and natural sights. Nearby there is the Farnsworth Art Museum, the Owl's Head Transportation Museum, and the Owl's Head Lighthouse.... more info >>

Description:This great Mid-Coast Maine vacation rental is only an hour from Portland International Jetport, but yet a world away. The “camp” (as people from Maine call their cottages) is close to the beautiful sandy beaches and trails at Reid State Park, which boasts one of Mid-Coast Maine’s few and most beautiful flat sandy beaches, complete with sand dunes. The rental owner supplies the visitor’s pass to Reid to provide you a greater value. Georgetown is an island, but you are connected by a few short bridges and will think you are on a glacial peninsula. nThe vacation rental is in the Five Islands section of Georgetown Maine and near quaint Five Islands Harbor and Wharf where you can enjoy Maine lobster, clams and hand made ice cream. Five Islands has been named one of the prettiest harbors in Maine and is just a few coves south of this perfect cove. This Maine vacation rental cottage provides the perfect setting to sit back and relax, but is close enough to do more if you choose. Historic Bath and the Maine Maritime Museum are just 20 minutes away and famous Freeport shopping (including LL Bean) is only about 40 minutes. nOur rustic coastal vacation rental has 3 bedrooms (sleeps 4 adults, 3 children, 1 bath, full kitchen, living room and eating area. It boasts two decks, dock, float, a grassy play area and 5.5 acres of woods. For the boater and water enthusiast there are 200 ' of frontage on the Little Sheepscot River (saltwater) and two moorings available for power or sail boats. There are currently two kayaks available for use at your own risk with this midcoast Maine vacation rental. nThis is a classic and old fashioned Maine midcoast experience with no television to distract you from the peace of the Maine cottage or camp, as Mainers call it, guest stay. Summer rentals are in keeping with the Maine and New England tradition and run Saturday to Saturday. We do break from tradition, and provide sheets and towels for our guests ' convenience.... more info >>
