This in town location provides an easy walk to the Town Library, Union Church, Main Street, Medical Center, beautiful Lane’s Island beach preserve with walking trails, and the working waterfront. At the cottage enjoy the sunny open deck or shady covered porch, spacious kitchen, and comfortable living room. Fully furnished, Sleeps 4, 2 Bedrooms with linens (1st bedroom - queen size bed, 2nd bedroom - full size futon), 1 bath with towels, washer/dryer, iron & ironing board, dining table seats 6, outdoor gas grill, electric stove/oven, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and other basics needed for cooking all your meals. Also available while using the cottage: a TV/VCR/DVD, movies, wireless internet, books, radio with CD player, piano, and lots of family favorite games :-) Available within walking distance from the cottage, you will find a variety of restaurants, 10 at the latest count. All are either on the Main Street or a side street just off of Main. Fine Dining, Casual, Takeout, Grocery Store, Wine Store, and many other shops and galleries. VERY IMPORTANT: The island is accessed by the Maine State Ferry Service, which provides six ferries running round trip each day. Description:If you are looking to escape the crowds and experience the best that Acadia National Park has to offer, come visit the Island! The Isle au Haut section of Acadia National Park lays at the front door of this little cottage, which itself is ideally located just a short walk from the village of Isle au Haut. The cottage sleeps four, but a small lawn directly off of the deck is perfect for easy camping to allow for a tent and a couple of extra people. Rates: Spring/Early Summer (thru end of June): $525/week or $85/night (two night min) Mid-Summer (Jul 1- Sep 1): $950/week or $150/night (three night min) Late Summer/Fall (Sep 1- Oct 31): $525/week or $85/night (two night min) There is an additional 7% for Maine Lodging tax, and a $200 security deposit. These two items can be taken care of along with a rental agreement directly with the owner. The island is truly remote: once nighttime falls the clarity of the stars is unforgettable. The island is crisscrossed with hiking trails. A hike from the cottage to Duck Harbor and onto the incredible Cliff Trail is perhaps the most strenuous, but well worth the effort. Or go easy on yourself and hang out on the sunny deck in the morning and move onto the shady side for the afternoon. Walk up to the lighthouse to catch the sunset over the Camden Hills in the evening. After arriving to the island on the mailboat from Stonington (you leave your car parked there-this is perhaps what keeps the island so unique), take the bikes back into town to hit the store and get acquainted with the town. Walk next door to Black Dinah Chocolatiers and sample their other-worldly creations at their wi-fi cafe. Explore around the house there are blueberries galore, bogs and meadows. There is an excellent trail map available from the National Park Service online or available at the Ranger Station, just a few minutes walk from the cottage. Go to the town landing to fish for mackerel and watch the lobster boats. Bike around the island and swim at the freshwater pond. The cottage is small with an open feeling. The furnishings are simple but comfortable, the kitchen is equipped and pleasant, and the bathroom is clean and cute. A spiral staircase winds up to the sleeping quarters, which contains two full size futons, one normally set up as a bed. Back downstairs, a retro couch pulls into another full sized bed. There is Rinnai heater to keep things snug on chilly nights. And there is WIFI intenet access-but bring your own electronic devices. There is a cd player/radio. A large deck, meadow and woods surround the house, with the island’s loop road providing occasional passersby and entertainment, mostly hikers and trucks filled with kids and dogs. LLBean is an easy 30 minute drive and Boston is approx 1 1/2 hour drive. Cape Elizabeth is host to an annual Labor Day Art Show. The annual Beach to Beacon road race is run every August. Description:Blueberry Hill cottage sits on Labrador Pond (a true lake) in the rolling hills of a scenic wooded farm area in Oxford County, Maine. The lake is about 3/4 by 1 mile in size, located 25 miles northwest of Lewiston (about 40 miles south of Augusta.) r n r nLabrador is an unusually pretty lake, spring-fed, clear and mirroring the sky and distant hills.The cottage is built on a rise overlooking the lake with a western view of mountains and sunsets. It is about 100 feet from the water just across a small blacktop country road which leads to good hiking around the lake. r n r nThe western shore of the lake is a wild bird preserve, offering habitation to ducks, Canadian geese, loons, as well as the occasional moose. Canoeing through the reeds here reveals the wildlife, as well as the best fishing spots.The cottage has a large living room with views of lake and woods. An open kitchen dining area faces west. r n r nThere are two large bedrooms and a roomy bathroom with a tub/shower. The master bedroom has a double bed and woodstove and the second bedroom has two twin beds. A woodstove gives heat on chilly evenings and mornings. The cottage is fully furnished with dishes, cookware, bed linens and towels. r n r nThe main living area has two attractive sofas and comfortable chairs. Books, cards, puzzles and games are available. There is a CD/Tape/Radio player and television with DirectTV. r n r nOff the kitchen a long screened porch allows for pleasant lounging during the glorious sunsets. For barbecues, there is a Weber grill and picnic table. A flat grass lawn off the porch offers outdoor play space, then slopes to the beach. r n r nStairs from the front door also lead to the beach. The kitchen and bath have hot and cold sweet running water pumped from a spring-fed well. A phone is provided for incoming and local calls. r n r nSwimming is excellent. The long narrow sand beach has a wide shallow water swimming area just across from the cottage. There is a swimming float and inner tubes are available for floating. The canoe and kayak are tied up to the pier. r n r nThe lake abounds with food for the fisherman: plentiful bass, lake trout, perch and pickerel. Many trout streams are nearby. Large mouth bass hide out in the reeds at the far south (left) end of the lake. r n r nOxford County is justifiably renowned for its mineral mines for rockhounds, beautiful colonial houses, churches and historical sites (Abe Lincoln's first vice-president, Hannibal Hamlin, was from nearby Paris Hill, seven miles away.) There is a full schedule of weekly auto races, summer fairs, antique places by the score, summer theater and auctions. This area is definitely an antique collector's dream. Be sure to visit the antique stores in Hallowell if you drive up to the Augusta area for fairs or a trip to the lovely state capital. There is a summer theater en route to Augusta in Monmouth, the Shaker Village. At least seven or eight movie theaters are within a 25 mile drive, as well as a mini-golf course at nearby Bear Pond. Description:Crockett Cove Cottage is situated on the serene shores of Crockett Cove. The cove is one of the areas larger inlets, traversing deep within past rocky islands and granite outcrops. Its graceful tidal flows are perfect for kayaking and exploring these ever changing waters, easy for pulling up to the small islands or shoreline for picnics or exploration. Much of the lands surrounding the cove were once owned by revered artist and humanitarian Emily Muir, who later donated 98 acres of the adjacent lands to what is now known as the Crockett Cove Nature Conservancy - which is full of trails. In fact, a portion of these protected lands are right next to the cottage. Crockett Cove Cottage is deep within the cove at its wider expanse, and enjoys this peaceful, private setting only 30 feet from the waters edge. Nestled on 2 areas between shoreline and woods, the cottage is a nature lovers delight. White gabled and beamed ceilings, open living/dining/kitchen, and working fireplace - along with an eclectic mix of furnishings - give a warm, cottage feel. There are two bedrooms (queen, 2 twins), along with a bunk house studio with full bed, sofa and office area. The home is well supplied, including DSL internet, satellite tv, cd player, and plenty of books to enjoy. Back outside relax on the large deck, featuring a Weber grill for outdoor cooking.
