A large deck off the dining room is great for social gatherings. Rooms on the second floor are a bath with tub and double vanity, three bedrooms, two of which face the ocean. Description:This great Mid-Coast Maine vacation rental is only an hour from Portland International Jetport, but yet a world away. The “camp” (as people from Maine call their cottages) is close to the beautiful sandy beaches and trails at Reid State Park, which boasts one of Mid-Coast Maine’s few and most beautiful flat sandy beaches, complete with sand dunes. The rental owner supplies the visitor’s pass to Reid to provide you a greater value. Georgetown is an island, but you are connected by a few short bridges and will think you are on a glacial peninsula. nThe vacation rental is in the Five Islands section of Georgetown Maine and near quaint Five Islands Harbor and Wharf where you can enjoy Maine lobster, clams and hand made ice cream. Five Islands has been named one of the prettiest harbors in Maine and is just a few coves south of this perfect cove. This Maine vacation rental cottage provides the perfect setting to sit back and relax, but is close enough to do more if you choose. Historic Bath and the Maine Maritime Museum are just 20 minutes away and famous Freeport shopping (including LL Bean) is only about 40 minutes. nOur rustic coastal vacation rental has 3 bedrooms (sleeps 4 adults, 3 children, 1 bath, full kitchen, living room and eating area. It boasts two decks, dock, float, a grassy play area and 5.5 acres of woods. For the boater and water enthusiast there are 200 ' of frontage on the Little Sheepscot River (saltwater) and two moorings available for power or sail boats. There are currently two kayaks available for use at your own risk with this midcoast Maine vacation rental. nThis is a classic and old fashioned Maine midcoast experience with no television to distract you from the peace of the Maine cottage or camp, as Mainers call it, guest stay. Summer rentals are in keeping with the Maine and New England tradition and run Saturday to Saturday. We do break from tradition, and provide sheets and towels for our guests ' convenience.... more info >>

Description:Our cottage sits on a small bluff directly overlooking Penobscot Bay. About 15 feet from the cottage deck is our private stairs, leading to the water 's edge. Maine coastline is more rocky than sandy -- our beach is perfect for rock scrambling. And there is a little dock at the foot of the stairs where some guests take their morning coffee or store a kayak or just sit and think. The water is cold -- at least for those of us used to swimming in the Gulf of Mexico -- but is ideal for rowing and canoeing and kayaking if one isn 't hardy enough to take a swim. There are little islands nearby to explore, but my favorite thing to do is to paddle out into the bay and sit quietly until the golden seals pop up around me. r n r nThe cottage is fully furnished with linens, towels, cookware, dishware, and glassware. It is cleaned and the laundry is done before each guest arrives. r n r nTheree28099s a nice-sized master bedroom with a queen-sized bed. In the dining/living greatroom theree28099s a daybed/sofa with a trundle, which becomes two twin beds. That room is quite attractive, I think: it has a cathedral ceiling and along one wall is the brick fireplace, while one entire other wall is windowed to look out across the water. r n r nAlso, there are two charming, cozy sleeping lofts -- one of them looks across the bay and the other looks west, across a field. Each of these lofts has access via pulldown stairs. The lofts were designed for the children of the family that originally built the cottage -- they are fun and sweet and, oddly enough, pretty darned comfortable (which I know from sleeping in them quite often as an adult!). They each have futons and a little table with a little lamp on it. r n r nThere is only one bathroom, it is small but clean and modern, and has a shower stall. r n r nThe cottage kitchen isne28099t large enough to eat in, but ite28099s not small, and the appliances are in good working order. Theree28099s a fairly new stove, a microwave oven, a normal-sized refrigerator, as well as a little fridge (for extra sodas, snacks, etc.) There are no laundry facilities in the cottage, but there is a laundromat in Castine, and another one in Bucksport. r n r nAll well-behaved pets are welcome at our cottage. r n r n... more info >>

Description:Blueberry Hill cottage sits on Labrador Pond (a true lake) in the rolling hills of a scenic wooded farm area in Oxford County, Maine. The lake is about 3/4 by 1 mile in size, located 25 miles northwest of Lewiston (about 40 miles south of Augusta.) r n r nLabrador is an unusually pretty lake, spring-fed, clear and mirroring the sky and distant hills. The cottage is built on a rise overlooking the lake with a western view of mountains and sunsets. It is about 100 feet from the water just across a small blacktop country road which leads to good hiking around the lake. r n r nThe western shore of the lake is a wild bird preserve, offering habitation to ducks, Canadian geese, loons, as well as the occasional moose. Canoeing through the reeds here reveals the wildlife, as well as the best fishing spots. The cottage has a large living room with views of lake and woods. An open kitchen dining area faces west. r n r nThere are two large bedrooms and a roomy bathroom with a tub/shower. The master bedroom has a double bed and woodstove and the second bedroom has two twin beds. A woodstove gives heat on chilly evenings and mornings. The cottage is fully furnished with dishes, cookware, bed linens and towels. r n r nThe main living area has two attractive sofas and comfortable chairs. Books, cards, puzzles and games are available. There is a CD/Tape/Radio player and television with DirectTV. r n r nOff the kitchen a long screened porch allows for pleasant lounging during the glorious sunsets. For barbecues, there is a Weber grill and picnic table. A flat grass lawn off the porch offers outdoor play space, then slopes to the beach. r n r nStairs from the front door also lead to the beach. The kitchen and bath have hot and cold sweet running water pumped from a spring-fed well. A phone is provided for incoming and local calls. r n r nSwimming is excellent. The long narrow sand beach has a wide shallow water swimming area just across from the cottage. The water stays shallow (two to four feet) at least 50-60 feet out from the shoreline, providing a safe area for children and non-swimmers. There is a swimming float and inner tubes are available for floating. The canoe and kayak are tied up to the pier. r n r nThe lake abounds with food for the fisherman: plentiful bass, lake trout, perch and pickerel. Many trout streams are nearby. Large mouth bass hide out in the reeds at the far south (left) end of the lake. r n r nOxford County is justifiably renowned for its mineral mines for rockhounds, beautiful colonial houses, churches and historical sites (Abe Lincoln's first vice-president, Hannibal Hamlin, was from nearby Paris Hill, seven miles away.) There is a full schedule of weekly auto races, summer fairs, antique places by the score, summer theater and auctions. This area is definitely an antique collector's dream. Be sure to visit the antique stores in Hallowell if you drive up to the Augusta area for fairs or a trip to the lovely state capital. There is a summer theater en route to Augusta in Monmouth, the Shaker Village. At least seven or eight movie theaters are within a 25 mile drive, as well as a mini-golf course at nearby Bear Pond. Lobsters can be bought in Paris or Norway, and the seashore, a 1 hour drive to Freeport, offers a tempting side trip. r n... more info >>

Description:Oar Island is one of the thousands of islands, large and small, that fill the rugged ocean coast of Maine. Formed and folded by continental collision, metamorphosis, and glacial scouring, the Maine coast is now a wonderful labyrinth of inlets, bays, islands, rivers, hills, and even fjords, mostly densely wooded with forests of spruce, pine, oak, maple, and birch. No wonder the Maine coast has been a prime vacation attraction for 150 years, favorite destination for Rockefellers, Cabots, Lodges, Bushes, and many others. r n r nOne of the most picturesque islands in Muscongus Bay, Oar Island can be found midway along Maineâ,€,™,s coast, about 1 Â,¼, hour drive east of Portland. It covers about 42 acres. r n r nOn the entire island there only 2 houses â,€,“, rentable by the week either together or separately. It is completely wooded, though with fine views of Muscongus Bay and its many other islands to the south, or of the Camden Hills many miles to the northeast. It has about a mile of ocean frontage, most of it deep water even at low tide, an all-tides boat landing, trails, coves, wildlife, free seafood to gather, and above all complete privacy. When you occupy Oar Island, you have an entire domain to yourself. Nobody can disturb you. You have crossed the moat and pulled up the drawbridge behind you. r n r nAlthough relatively small, Oar Island was once owned by the famous Samoset, one of the two Indians who welcomed the Pilgrims -- in English! -- at their Plymouth settlement in March, 1621. In 1625 Samoset sold the Pemaquid peninsula, including Oar Island, to an English settler named John Brown. r n r nOver the years Oar Island has seen several interesting milestones. During the Revolution a gang of self-described pirates, led by a Nathanial Palmer, camped on the Muscongus Bay islands while preying on local shipping. Commodore Samuel Tucker, who captured more British ships than any other American privateer, later settled next door to Oar Island. In the nineteenth century Oar Island was owned for many years by the family of the uniquely-named Capt. Abdon Keene, Samuel Tucker 's neighbors. In 1907 the island just to the south, Hog Island, was bought by Mabel Loomis Todd, the first publisher of the collected poems of Emily Dickinson and the adulterous lover of Emilyâ,€,™,s brother, Austin. It is now the Audubon Society 's Todd Wildlife Sanctuary. In the same year Oar Island was bought by a New Yorker, Van Buren Hagerman, the first to live there full time, who continued to own it until 1948. The present red Cottage was built by Van Buren Hagerman. And in the 1970 's more modern pirates, Colombian drug smugglers, were arrested coming ashore at the local lobster pound. r n r n... more info >>
