Description:Restorative! Beautiful views of the Camden Hills and Lake Quantabacook from our comfortable and peaceful mountaintop camp. Our location is perfect for people who want to retreat from busy urban areas and the saturated tourist belt of the Maine coast. Abutting the Frye Mountain Game Preserve with easy access to the Sheepscot Watershed Land Alliance's network of trails, our camp manages to feel very far away from everything even though Belfast (a cool, small, not-too-touristy city--home of our restaurant, bakery, and market, Chase's Daily) is only ten miles away. Off-grid, solar-powered, propane fridge, on-demand hot water, wood stove, compost heap out back, herbs to pick from the terraced gardens, fog lingering in the valley come dawn, stars aplenty in the true dark at night, moss and lichen gleaming in the rain, wildflowers brassy in the hot sun. Real kitchen suitable for cooks. Cotton sheets, soft pillows, comfortable beds—one queen sized and one double. No phone line, tv, or internet access. Good cell phone reception. Good pets are welcome! July and August $150 per night, four night minimum, or $1000 per week September through June $100 per night Monday-Thursday, $150 per night Friday-Sunday, four night minimum, or $700 per week Prices do not include Maine lodging tax of 7%, winter heat surcharge, or $200 security deposit... more info >>

Description:Enjoy uninterrupted peace and quiet on the Maine coast in this rustic cabin perfect for artists, writers, or anyone else wanting to unplug and unwind for a few days or weeks. This charming cabin, built in 1982, is situated only 50 feet from the water's edge, and, with only one house visible through the woods, it is difficult to find a more private location than this. The cabin is of rustic design, with one private bedroom and single common area that includes a kitchenette, eat-in table, couch, and TV (no cable though). Above the common area is a loft with two twin bed mattresses, accessible by a wooden ladder. Off the common area is an enclosed composting toilet. There is no shower so all washing up must be done in the bath tub. There is no internet or telephone connection. The small wood stove is no longer functional, but three portable electric heaters are kept permanently in the cabin for any chilly Maine nights. Such simple living is certainly not for everyone, but can be a tremendous treat for those interested in enjoying this beautiful natural setting. The cabin looks over a salt river (Back River) which is part of the ocean but looks more like a river/lake due to the protection of Barter's Island across the water. The cove that the cabin sits on is tidal, which means that half the time you are looking at the ocean and half the time it is a natural mud flat. So the view changes every 6 hours! To enjoy the water to its fullest when the tide is up, a double kayak may be rented from the property owners at a very reasonable rate. The cabin is located 5 minutes drive from lovely Boothbay Harbor, a stunning destination for travelers of all kinds. Enjoy fine local seafood, kayaking, whale watching, sunset sailing trips, and the charming downtown with its quaint shops. There are also many beautiful walking trails through the Boothbay Region Land Trust, along with one of the world's finest botanical gardens at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, located only 2 miles from the cabin. The owners of the cabin live on the adjacent property so any questions or concerns can be immediately addressed.... more info >>

Property Type:Vacation Home
Amenities:Deck, Woodburning Stove
Activities:Boating, Running, Swimming
Description:An Island to call your own! This privately owned, 25 acre island is nestled just outside of picturesque Bucks Harbor Marina in the coastal town of Brooksville. Built in 1967, the cabin is fully functional with running water, a generator, wood stove and gas appliances. Guests need to be extremely conservative with all its resources. There is no phone, there is no TV, but there is 100 years of family history here and 1000 reasons to forget work. Located in Brooksville, this snug village is known by many from the late Robert McCloskeys book - One Morning in Maine. Island Beyond is an island retreat without bridges or cars or any other neighbors except the wild kind. Nothing but blue sky and blue ocean surround it. For the right person, this is an ocean paradise where mother nature still rules. Guests of the island must have some boating skills and an independent, adventurous attitude. Do not look for luxury here. This is a sublimely natural place with gasp-worthy views where the ocean stretches forever. It offers a change of pace so complete that its almost spiritual. One reaches the island by their own boat or one of the two provided for guests. Its easiest to depart from the Bucks Harbor public landing which is only a stones throw from the back of the island. Once the island is reached, a mooring, dock and float are available for the boats. A broad, wooded path loops through the quiet forest offering unsurpassed natural beauty around every corner. At its end, on the front side of the island is a modest, unpretentious cabin on the shore. Whether you come with your grandchildren or to woo the love of your life, one can not stay on the island without falling under its magical spell. Life is a journey with some rather exquisite rest stops along the way.......this is definitely one of them! The summer cottage sits on the southeast side with high tides and swimming. The front deck provides you with wonderful views of the Penobscot Bay and Eggemoggin Reach.... more info >>
