It is a hundred year old home with airy rooms and modern design. We are located in a leafy neighborhood a block from Back Bay's walking and cycling trails, 2 miles to the heart of downtown Portland, across the street from an artisan bakery. Wifi, fireplace, washer/dryer and all amenities are included. Kitchen is fully equipped with many condiments, wine glasses, and all that is required for the serious cook. Kitchen appliances include JennAir gas oven/stove, Bosch dishwasher, and on the deck a Weber propane bbq. The yard is fenced, private, and shady. There is parking in the driveway for two vehicles. Description:Our house is nestled in the trees, across the road from the Hidden Valley Nature Center . The house is fully furnished and has an open floor plan with 2 bedrooms downstairs and a loft with a TV and futon, which can be used for a 3rd bedroom. There are 2 outbuildings the 'crib' has a separate screened sleeping porch downstairs, where we sleep, and a yoga studio/storage area upstairs. The other building is a wood-heated sauna. In the house there are 2 bathrooms (one w/ spa tub), 2 couches, appliances include a large upright freezer, washer and dryer, linens and towels original art is on the walls. Heat is provided by one propane stove in the middle of the house. Kitchen stove and water heater are also run on propane. The house is bright and the sunroom adds passive solar heat in the winter. There are 3 skylights. Water is from a drilled well and is sweet and cold. Perennial flower beds surround the house. Our neighborhood is a community of good, friendly folks, some of the best in Maine. And volleyball is big there are 2 regulation sand courts within walking distance. Playing starts as soon as mud season ends. Woods have miles of trails, great for walks, x-country skiing, snow shoeing. Closest neighbor is 1/8 of a mile away and cannot be seen from our house. Environs The coastal towns of Damariscotta and Wiscasset are 15 minutes away Gardiner is 20 minutes and August is 30 minutes. There are major shopping areas in all those places, but the best veggies are right across the road, at Hidden Valley (organic) Farm. Camden and Portland are an hour away in opposite directions. The Sheepscot River is 3 miles down the road, in the old village of Head Tide, a part of the town of Alna. When the tide is right a canoe or kayak (which is available for use) will take you out to the coast. Only non-smokers, please. If you stay there when we are away, the place sleeps 8.... more info >>
