If you are looking for an alternative to driving, it's a safe and easy walk or there is a bus stop just a few feet away that will have you downtown in 5 minutes. Description:1500 sq ft country charmer on 3 acres. Easy access to Mid-Coast and China Lakes region. Plenty of activities for naturalists, eco-aware outdoor enthusiasts. Depending on when you come you may be lucky enough to harvest any number of fresh vegetables, berries and fruits all growing right outside the front door. Crystal clear spring fed well water is delicious. There is no cable, no DISH, but the antenna receives ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, and PBS. Mac based Media Center for the rest of your entertainment needs. There is also an electric powered player piano and dozens of piano rolls to entertain yourselves and your guests. It by no means luxurious, but it is clean, safe ,and RELAXING! No planes, no trains, a very few automobiles. No sirens, no traffic. In a nutshell, nothing you don't want. Full kitchen with plenty of cookware and cupboards full of whole food type staples. General Store is about 7 miles, next nearest store is 9 miles. it is only available for a week every couple of months when I have to travel for work. Description:Enjoy uninterrupted peace and quiet on the Maine coast in this rustic cabin perfect for artists, writers, or anyone else wanting to unplug and unwind for a few days or weeks. This charming cabin, built in 1982, is situated only 50 feet from the water's edge, and, with only one house visible through the woods, it is difficult to find a more private location than this. The cabin is of rustic design, with one private bedroom and single common area that includes a kitchenette, eat-in table, couch, and TV (no cable though). Above the common area is a loft with two twin bed mattresses, accessible by a wooden ladder. Off the common area is an enclosed composting toilet. There is no shower so all washing up must be done in the bath tub. There is no internet or telephone connection. The small wood stove is no longer functional, but three portable electric heaters are kept permanently in the cabin for any chilly Maine nights. Such simple living is certainly not for everyone, but can be a tremendous treat for those interested in enjoying this beautiful natural setting. The cabin looks over a salt river (Back River) which is part of the ocean but looks more like a river/lake due to the protection of Barter's Island across the water. The cove that the cabin sits on is tidal, which means that half the time you are looking at the ocean and half the time it is a natural mud flat. So the view changes every 6 hours! To enjoy the water to its fullest when the tide is up, a double kayak may be rented from the property owners at a very reasonable rate. The cabin is located 5 minutes drive from lovely Boothbay Harbor, a stunning destination for travelers of all kinds. Enjoy fine local seafood, kayaking, whale watching, sunset sailing trips, and the charming downtown with its quaint shops. There are also many beautiful walking trails through the Boothbay Region Land Trust, along with one of the world's finest botanical gardens at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, located only 2 miles from the cabin. Description:If you are looking to escape the crowds and experience the best that Acadia National Park has to offer, come visit the Island! The Isle au Haut section of Acadia National Park lays at the front door of this little cottage, which itself is ideally located just a short walk from the village of Isle au Haut. The cottage sleeps four, but a small lawn directly off of the deck is perfect for easy camping to allow for a tent and a couple of extra people. Rates: Spring/Early Summer (thru end of June): $525/week or $85/night (two night min) Mid-Summer (Jul 1- Sep 1): $950/week or $150/night (three night min) Late Summer/Fall (Sep 1- Oct 31): $525/week or $85/night (two night min) There is an additional 7% for Maine Lodging tax, and a $200 security deposit. These two items can be taken care of along with a rental agreement directly with the owner. The island is truly remote: once nighttime falls the clarity of the stars is unforgettable. The island is crisscrossed with hiking trails. A hike from the cottage to Duck Harbor and onto the incredible Cliff Trail is perhaps the most strenuous, but well worth the effort. Or go easy on yourself and hang out on the sunny deck in the morning and move onto the shady side for the afternoon. Walk up to the lighthouse to catch the sunset over the Camden Hills in the evening. After arriving to the island on the mailboat from Stonington (you leave your car parked there-this is perhaps what keeps the island so unique), take the bikes back into town to hit the store and get acquainted with the town. Walk next door to Black Dinah Chocolatiers and sample their other-worldly creations at their wi-fi cafe. Explore around the house there are blueberries galore, bogs and meadows. There is an excellent trail map available from the National Park Service online or available at the Ranger Station, just a few minutes walk from the cottage. Go to the town landing to fish for mackerel and watch the lobster boats. Bike around the island and swim at the freshwater pond. The cottage is small with an open feeling. The furnishings are simple but comfortable, the kitchen is equipped and pleasant, and the bathroom is clean and cute. A spiral staircase winds up to the sleeping quarters, which contains two full size futons, one normally set up as a bed. Back downstairs, a retro couch pulls into another full sized bed. There is Rinnai heater to keep things snug on chilly nights. And there is WIFI intenet access-but bring your own electronic devices. There is a cd player/radio. A large deck, meadow and woods surround the house, with the island’s loop road providing occasional passersby and entertainment, mostly hikers and trucks filled with kids and dogs. PLUS just got a new, very yummy, therapedic bed. Antique chic decor with great light and cozy atmosphere. Sleeps 1-2 but I can provide you with a twin bed if you need or a queen blow up bed. Dogs are welcome and there is a nice big fenced in back yard with lots of furniture and a grill. The green belt walkway is just across the way for running, biking, walking. Linens included. Bus stop just out front. Two bicycles are available for use, no cable tv but tv and dvd player with some dvd's available also wireless internet is available for a small fee. It is on a busy street but I have only had one complaint as it dies down at night and you can drown out the sound with a fan. There is off street parking but you can also park on Broadway or Elm so can have more then one car. $50 cleaning. $560/ week, or prorated daily with a 3 day minimum stay.
