The nest is up a flight of steps so unfortunately at this time, we don't have handicap access. We live in a QUIET village in the forest. We look forward to hosting guests of different backgrounds and welcome you to our sunny tranquil family home in San Mateo with a view of San Francisco Bay. Our home is spacious and cozy, and is very kid friendly. Our home is ideal for vacationers or those on business, and we will always make you feel at home. We are in an ideal location, close to hwy 101 and 280, and public transportation.We are 20 miles south of San Francisco, 30 miles north of San Jose, 36 miles west of the Tri Valley and 13 miles from half Moon Bay and beaches. We are 10-15 minutes from SFO.If you must use public transportation, Sam Trans 53 passes close to here. A little more about the location: You are within walking distance to the Laurelwood shopping center which includes Piazza's grocery store, and several eateries. The College of San Mateo, and Sugarloaf Park, which has hiking trails, are nearby. There is also a farmers market at CSM on Saturdays featuring lots of organic produce. Our perfect guest is someone who loves life and sharing good conversation. We enjoy learning about different backgrounds and interests! While we would love to share our space with you, and will most likely invite you to join us when we are around, we also appreciate very self sufficient guests! We are a very busy family and need our guests to make themselves at home and take care of themselves. This means tidying after yourself, like loading and unloading the dishwasher, and being respectful of our home.We do not allow any smoking on the property, inside or outside. Also, we have no TV, so bring your laptop! We have plenty of toys to share with your children- we just ask you to clean up after they enjoy them. A little about us: We are an active household, homeschooling our young children. We speak English and Italian in our home and we have a passion for cooking, especially with fruits, veggies and herbs from our own garden. We love to experiment with gluten free international vegetarian cuisine. We love art, books, gardening, inventions and creativity in general. The animals in residence are fish, a leopard frog, and four lovely chickens who will lay eggs soon! (Then we will share fresh eggs with our guests!) About the accommodations:A private bedroom upstairs. There is a double bed that can sleep two, a twin futon, and if need be, there is room on the floor for a fourth person, ideally a child, on air mattress or camping mattress. There is a lovely view of the bay from this room. The primary sound you can hear from this peaceful room is the fountain running in our garden. There is a bathroom en suite. A five minute walk downhill brings you riverside with the SHP Lodge (with game room and a restaurant/ bar with outside deck over the river), Clubhouse, Amphitheatre, beach and boat usage rights. As a renter of Pine Ridge Retreat, you’,ll have access to all the seasonal (Memorial Day through Labor Day) Summer Home Park activities and amenities, as well as those of the less busy and quieter Highcroft beach and playground a five minutes further walk (or available by car with parking available). A canoe is provided. Pine Ridge Retreat is a serene, spacious, and sunny home with top of the hill, end of the road privacy. It has multiple levels, three decks, many windows with panoramic views of the forest as well as a large patio with seating, dining, BBQ and hot tub. The upstairs has the spacious master bedroom, open floor plan kitchen dining and family rooms, as well as a large living room with fireplace (firewood included) and a redwood cathedral ceiling. Downstairs are two more bedrooms, one with a desk and doors to a small side deck, and a media room with Cable TV. The living room with the fireplace alone comprised the original cabin built at the turn of the 20th century. Now, the home has all the modern conveniences: propane central heating, electricity backed by an automatic generator, two full baths and laundry, plenty of parking, sauna and indoor spa tub as well as outdoor hot tub. It is comfortable living all year round. The cell phone signal is remarkable on top of the hill, and the home is equipped with Cable TV, wifi internet and unlimited long distance phone service. Though the single owner also owns the occupied cottage next door with its own garage, deck and parking, the main house is sheltered from view with privacy fencing and beautiful landscaping. Your dog(s) will love the secure yard just for them, accessible from the main house downstairs and off the upper patio. Though dogs are not allowed during the summer on the SHP beach, before 10 am and after 7 pm they are very welcome at Highcroft. Guests and their pets can access fabulous ridge top hiking trails from the back yard which wind for miles through the untouched oak, redwood and pine forest acreage owned by SHP, Highcroft and Odd Fellows Park.
