Description:Gili Meno, the middle island, the smallest of the three Gili's and it is the quietest with fewer tourists. A great escape for someone who wants to get away from it all. Special features of the island is the salt lake and spectacular dive sites such as, Meno Wall, Sea Turtle Point, and Blue Coral Point. The beach on eastern part of the island is very nice and there's snorkeling just offshore and further north. Gili Meno has a population of about 300 locals. The interior of the island is mostly a palm trees surrounded by grass which is kept neat by cows munching lazily in the shade. There are no cars or motorbikes on the island, all transport is by horse drawn carts or on foot. The diving was pretty good, with quite a strong current but that incredible swimming pool visibility that you get on good days off the islands in SE Asia. The relaxed pace of life and the community feeling on the island is really special. In Gili Meno, where fresh water is shipped from Lombok, eco friendly practices are not an option. It is a necessity. DIVE SITES ON GILI ISLANDS, LOMBOK INDONESIA There are over 3,500 marine species living in the reefs and seas of Indonesia. In comparison to the Great Barrier Reef (1,500 species) and Red Sea (600 species), 25 % of all reefs in the world are in Indonesia. The drop offs, plateaus and slopes of the Gili's reflect a good cross section of what Indonesia has to offer. Dive in and be fascinated by turtles, White tip Reef Sharks, Cuttlefish, Moray Eels, Angel Fish, Ghost Pipefish and more. Around the three Gili Island in the north west of Lombok (Gili Air, Gili Meno, Gili Trawangan), are more then 15 different dive spots and there are new reefs being explored all the time. Shark Point & Volkers' Golf Course Shark Point, to the east of Gili Trawangan, is a popular dive spot in the mornings. This dive site consists of different levels (24m, 20m, 18m). It starts with a slope of hard and soft corals, the native territory of Green and Hawksbill Turtles. The different levels are sandy areas with small coral locks the variety of underwater life is large, starting with schools of Trevally Napoleon Fish to White tip Reef Sharks and Rays in the sandy areas, ending up with Ribbon Eels, Leaf Fish and even Mantas. Volkers' Golf Course is about 500 m east of Shark Point and starts at a depth of about 20m. It looks green like a golf course and is the best site to see Sharks, Schools of Mackerel and Doctor Fish. Because of its depth and the sometimes very strong currents, it is a dive for advanced divers. Meno Wall Meno wall, off the west coast of Gili Meno, goes down to depths of 18m. It offers a lot of small coral fish like Lionfish, Soldier Fish, Gobies, crabs, as well as Wart Slugs and Nudibranches coming out of hiding. It is also called Turtle Heaven because of the many resident Hawksbill and Green Turtles. Air Wall Air Wall, to the west of Gili Air, is a very beautiful wall that, due to the soft coral cover, shines yellow orange depending on the position of the sun. The highlight of this wall is a coral block at 22m in which Leaf Fish (Scorpion Fish) make their home, surrounded by shrimps, Pipe Fish, White banded Cleaner Shrimps and thousands of Glass Fish. Look into the deeper parts for White tip Reef Sharks. Coral Fan Garden & Basket Coral Garden Also popular for morning dives are the two dive spots in the north of Gili Trawangan: Coral Fun Garden and Basket Coral Garden. In the first few metres you have the feeling of being in an aquarium schools of colored Fairy Basslets, Fusiliers, Banner Fish live here. Deeper, around the big coral and stone blocks, Groupers, Batfish, Trumpet Fish, hiding Octopus and Bearded Scorpion Fish. Look out to the blue: sometimes Eagle Rays, Mantas or Reef Sharks can be seen. Manta Point In the rainy season, when the water is rich with plankton, this dive site in the south of Gili Trawangan gives you the best chance to see Manta Rays. Description:This is an ocean front property, a 5 bedroom penthouse, complete with all amenities and at least one English speaking American on the premises at all times to help you with your questions, concerns, and travel plans. Throughout the year, this property houses a respectful, hardworking American couple that is willing to share the peace, comfort, beauty, and tranquility of the Caribbean with one or two guests. Also, there is a small convenience store on the first floor of our building for your basic day to day needs. Usually, I work during the mornings, but I am free in the afternoons. Depending on when your flight comes in, I might be able to meet you at the airport or even show you around town. This has been the standard routine, but we will need to exchange some emails to make sure that the scheduling work out for us. And, just so you know, there is a washing machine on premises for your use, but there is no dryer. Like most Colombians, we dry our washed items using the power of the equatorial sun. Usually, we have most of the house booked, and room distribution is based on first come, first serve. The smallest room is almost always available, and is ideal for one guest, it also has its own bathroom and shower. The medium sized bedroom with the ceiling fan has air conditioning capability, but the price to run the A/C is an extra 30 US per week, since electricity here is quite expensive. Please take special note of the fact that there are no elevators in this building, and you are on a 5th floor penthouse, which means you will have to walk up 5 flights of stairs, this is perfect if you want to get a little extra exercise, but if you have knee issues, then please reconsider. Now, if I may, I would like to share with you my opinion of Cartagena. Well, I love it, and I don't plan on leaving it any time soon. The weather is great and the cultural stuff you run into here is fascinating. You just need to be aware of your surroundings and also of the prices one pays for whatever items or services one seeks. Do not come here and start buying things on your first day. Ask around: how much is this?, how much is that?... cuanto por esto?...cuanto por eso? Also, wait to exchange your dollars for pesos until you are away from the airport, because they always charge too much for the exchanging of the dollars. And as far as Taxis go, if you can, walk away from the airport entrance and hail a cab the next street over. The cabs here in Cartagena are totally safe. You can get into any cab and ask them how much it is to take you to El Habitacional Marbella, which sounds like this: Cuanto para llevarme al Edificio Habitacional Marbella? If they say more than 6,000 pesos, they are overcharging you, at that point, tell him you only have 6,000 (seis mil pesos), and if they say know No, then close the door and wait for the next cab, which will probably have a more honest driver.
