Description:The house is located on the Puntarenas peninsular, right on the estuary in the Cocal neighbourhood, a 10 minute drive east of downtown, a 2 minute walk across the football field to the Pacific beach and a 3, 4 or 5 minute walk west of the Hotel Portobello, Puerto Azul complex and the Yacht Club. The property backs onto a tidal river, with mangroves on the far bank, with an estuary room and jetty - great for fishing, bird-watching and relaxing. An inner open area with barbecue gives onto a tiled patio and the main-house consists of a bathroom, kitchen, living area, double bedroom and storage room, which can double as a spare single-room. We have a double-bed in the front bedroom and 2 single beds, which can be used in the big open-plan living space in the main house, or in the estuary-room (if, like us, you like to sleep where you can see the stars!). There is a small front garden, with space for off-road private parking in front of the banana-tree. Description:Our farm has a newly remodeled farm house you may enjoy. It's great for adventurous people who want something larger than the standard sterile hotel room. Great for bicyclists and other travelers needing a place to stay while travelling the Pan-American Highway. Positives: 1) We are close (1.5 km) to the Pan-American, between the towns of Anton and Penenome. There is a bus stop where our road joins the highway, and it is a 5 min drive or 20 min walk. The road is located approximately midway between the 137 and 138 kilometer markers. 2) Scenic views, especially in the afternoon. We are building some nature trails, and have a creek you will be able to swim in once we complete a small dam to raise the water level. 3) Depending on the season, some farm products (mostly eggs and fruit) are available. 4) Somewhat close to the beach at Farallon (35 km). 5) We have a large water tank on a tower to compensate for the spotty public water. Public water is available only from hours of 5:00 am to 10:00 am generally, but you can take a shower with us 24 hours a day. It's even warmed a bit by the sun. 6) The house has an equipped kitchen, but food would need to be brought in for your stay. 7) Tile throughout. Mostly one level, with a small rise to the back patio and bathroom. Rise is 5 inches, and has a small ramp to assist. 8) Spacious enclosed bathroom. Have a shower whenever you like. 9) Lockable front gate and fence around property. House has a second security fence around it. We will be adding motion sensor lights soon. Negatives: 1) This is a working farm, so our small staff is busy most days carrying out their duties. There maybe some temporary disturbance from that. Cutting the grass, carrying hoses to water plants, the occasional truck coming and going. 2) The short access road to our farm is currently dirt, but there are rumours it will be paved one day soon. Most any car can make the drive if they move slowly. The local Japanese sedan taxies use the road all the time. 3) Some people like to play their Salsa music on the weekends. It's mormally very quiet, but people occasionally get into party mode. Even though we are 500m from the next houses, the sound is noticable because everything else is quiet. 4) Internet is optionally available through a cell-phone 3G hot-spot device which provides a local WiFi signal for up to five devices. Bandwidth is limited (approx 256KB/sec), fine for email and web browsing, acceptable for VOIP, but poor for video. Service requires purchase of a block of time from a local cell phone provider, approximately $25 for 20 days last I checked. 5) This is the countryside. There are the occasional annoying insects and bats trying to eat them, etc. 6) No AC. We have fans but have not gotten to the point of installing an air conditioner. It is generally hot here, about 28 - 30C, 50% - 90% RH, depending on the season. We get a good breeze in the verrano (Jan - March roughtly).
